the people. The law also serves customers with premium tax credits (subsidies) that minimize the
price for households with an income of 100% to 400% of the federal poverty level (French,
Homer, Gumus & Hickling, 2016). It also aims to minimize the increased rate of Medicaid or
Medicare, implement new reporting needs for tax-exempt hospitals and implement various
reforms for the delivery system.

The Affordable Care Act prevents individuals with pre-existing situations who are not provided
health insurance. It also extended health coverage through the Medicaid program to low-income
families. The act helps health plans cover preventive care such as blood pressure, birth control,
vaccines and cancer screenings without any additional cost. It also improves substance use
disorder coverage and mental health coverage (Dresden et al., 2017). It opened accountable care
organizations to enhance care coordination among primary care doctors and specialists to
increase quality by protecting patients from falling due to communication gaps with the care
continuum.

The act is determined to be a long and protracted battle as the republicans from other parties, and
Trump varieties strive hard to replace and repeal this act. However, it is difficult to eliminate a
program that possesses extended medical insurance coverage to 20 million people and has

republican proposals put efforts to implement limited per-capita allotments and block grants to
states by replacing open-ended Medicaid funding.
