The Triple Aim
The term Triple Aim is used to define the continuous methods of improvement of
experience of the patients under care, improvement of the population health, and lastly, reduction
of the cost of the health care per head. This was determined by Institute for Healthcare
Improvement as they wanted to bring changes to the society along with the individual (Mery et
al., 2017).
As mentioned before, the primary-objective of Triple Aim is improvement of the
experience of the people under health care. This experience includes both quality and satisfaction
of the patients. Apart from this, Triple Aim approaches for better health outcome from the group
of individual. Lastly, finance is the main requirement for healthcare, and according to IHI’s
Triple Aim, the goal is to reduce the expenses of the patients per capita (Whittington et al.,
2015).
The three elements of Triple Aim are: improving customer experience, reducing the
expense and improvement of health outcome of the population.

IHI Triple Aim for Diabetes treatment:
According to Triple Aim, the customer experience must be improved. The diabetes
treatments needs continuous blood glucose control under proper treatment. Thus patient needs
proper care and medical observations for diabetes treatment and in that tenure, the hospitals must
give quality of services to the patient (Blouin, 2013).
The dosage for controlling the blood-sugar-level-control is expensive. But as per the
triple aim, the cost of the treatment of the patients can be reduced by reducing the fee of the
physicians or the bed charges while they are under care.
All these services provided by the organization helps in increasing the health outcome of
the individual population, in this case we can consider the entire population of diabetic patients
in the medical centre or hospitals that can be benefited (Berwick et al., 2008).
