INTRODUCTION
The communication and patient safety are related to each other because by providing the
patient with proper information regarding the diseases and the treatment required will provide
the patient with the trust on the healthcare professional which will help in increasing the chances
of recovery of the patients. Patient safety at the healthcare leads to improved image of the care
providers. In this assignment, it will provide information regarding the Ruby bell which is the 4
year old child suffering from Gastroenteritis. It is a disease that is characterised by vomiting and
diarrhoea. Moreover, This assignment will provide information regarding the risk of error
occurring while they are in hospital receiving the nursing care.
MAIN BODY
Identification of chosen patient and the reason why they are at risk
The patient for the research is Ruby bell which is 4 years old suffering from
gastroenteritis. It is a disease which is also known as infectious Diarrhoea (Tobiano and et.al.,
2016). Patient safety is important for performing the operation in the healthcare. There are
various risk error which are present in the healthcare for the Ruby
 Inappropriate information provided to the patient regarding the patient health.
 Failure to disclose the complication and risk of intervention
 Poor communication between department
 Inadequacy of skills and knowledge
 Inadequate supervision
 lack of privacy
The patient is a 4 year old child which does not have any knowledge and understanding
regarding the situation. The patient require close monitoring and supervisor and it is required that
the healthcare professional must provide every details of the patient to its parents to have a
proper treatment. The patient is very young and thus it is not possible to obtain valid consent to
an intervention from the patient (Sahay, Hutchinson and East, 2015). Failure to communicate
with the health professionals provide reasonable standard of care. Moreover, failure to
communicate with supervisors when patient safety is in Jeopardy. There are various human
errors which act as risk of error for the vulnerable patients which are based on skill, knowledge,
rule etc (Chaboyer and et.al., 2016). The patient have lack of understanding due to which these
errors may impact on their health such as unhygienic environment (Gluyas, 2015). The type of

error are human errors and system errors which have their impact on the patient health (Bucknall
and et.al., 2016). The individual errors of judgement, writing the prescription , failure to
communicate, failure to record accurately and poor management of the staff resources can have
its impact on the health of Ruby bell.
On the basis of this article it is identified that the children that suffer from gastroenteritis
require to be provided with high safety as they have the lack of understanding and it is required
that the surrounding environment must be cleaned as this disease is infectious and can spread to
other people if not provided proper care to the patient (Rotavirus Infection in Children with
Acute Gastroenteritis in Iran: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis, 2014. ). On the basis of
this article it has provided information regarding the care which assist in recovering the patient
and reducing the chances of Rotavirus infection which spread due to acute gastroenteritis. This
article was published in the year 2014 and it is relevant for this study because it will provide

information regarding the infection in children with gastroenteritis which will help in reducing
the risk of error for the patient while getting nursing care in the hospital. It will provide
understanding to the healthcare professional and nurses regarding the hygiene of the surrounding
of the patient to reduce the chances of infection and providing the patient with proper
medication.
The article has provided information regarding ondansetron and probiotics in the
management of the gastroenteritis in the children to provide them proper care in the nursing to
recover them from the disease by providing them proper safety in the healthcare (Ondansetron
and probiotics in the management of pediatric acute gastroenteritis in developed countries,
2015. ). The children are required to be dealt with extra care in the healthcare suffering from
gastroenteritis in order to reduce the infection which is spreading due to lack of safety measures
taken under the healthcare it consists of errors due to wring the prescription which leads to
providing wrong medicine to the patient which leads to side effects on the patient health. This
article was published in 2015 and it is relevant for the research because it will give information
to the nurses regarding the patient safety in the healthcare for reducing then chances of error.

The above article provided information use of probiotic in acute rotavirus diaherrea in
children. The probiotic therapies assist in recovery of the children or the treatment of the patient
from diaherrea. It is analysed that children in healthcare while getting their treatment there are
various errors which can be held in the healthcare that have a negative effect on the health of
patient (Efficacy of probiotic use in acute rotavirus diarrhea in children: A systematic review
and meta-analysis, 2015.). This article is relevant because it has provided information regarding
the disease and the treatment which can help the patient from recovery. With the help of this
article the healthcare will be able to provide proper care services to Ruby bell and proper safety
measures can be taken to improve the condition of patient suffering from gastroenteritis. This
article was published in the year 2015. It will help in addressing the question related to the risk
of error while the patient is in hospital because it will provide information regarding the
treatment which will help in reducing the human error.

In this article it has contained information regarding the treatment of gastroenteritis
which will assist in reducing the risk of error in healthcare while treating the patient. The
duration of diaherrea is very short but the infection caused by this disease leads to various effect
on the patient health( Meta‐analysis: Smectite in the treatment of acute infectious diarrhoea in
children, 2005). It is provided that the children suffering from this disease require proper safety
measure and the food in order to reduce the various impact on the health. It will assist in
reducing the human error taking place in the healthcare. The publication of the article was in
2005.

On the basis of this article it has provided information about the family centred care on
the satisfaction of the parents for the treatment of children' s (Effects of family-centered care on
the satisfaction of parents of children hospitalized in pediatric wards in a pediatric ward in
Chaloos in 2012, 2015). This article was published in the year 2015 and is relevant for the
research as it will assist in providing information regarding the impact of patient safety in
healthcare on the satisfaction level of the parents for the treatment of their children. This article
assist in identifying the risk factor associated with the family centred care.
CONCLUSION
From the assignment it has been concluded about the importance of patient safety in the
health care for reducing the risk of error. Moreover, it has provided information regarding the
various risk of error which consist of human error and system error which include error in
writing the prescription, lack of communication, failure to record etc. that affect the treatment of
the patient. In the given case Ruby bell which is a 4 years old child suffering from gastroenteritis
it is required to provide the patient with the proper safety measure while they are in healthcare
getting the treatment.
