Network Requirement Analysis and Design for Patmos Aktis Hotel

Project scope
The report addresses the current hotel structure, the business structure and the design and
implementation of the existing network. The analysis of the user requirements and the existing network
of the hotel have been performed in this section. The following sections are addressed in this report.

The project requirements
This section defines the functional and non-functional requirements that must be considered while
designing the network for the Partimos Aktmis hotel, a TP-link network to fulfill its business
requirements.
Product and General requirements
 Introduction of TP-Links the wireless access points.
 The solutions should provide reliable connectivity with no single point of failure.
 Providing a secure and scalable network for the hotel.
 The solution should provide enough bandwidth for all the users in the hotel.
 Introduction of TP-links to the network that will cover the 56 rooms in the hotel.
 The solution shall provide a centralized management system to control all the access points.
 The network should have customer authentification.
 Pleasant design that is esthetic to all users to access the network from any point.
Network and service requirements

 There should be no single point of failure in routing and switching sections together with
cabling.
 The solution should support quality service based on the nature of services that are required by
the customers this includes voice communication, emailing communication and video
streaming.
 The solution should ensure that layer 2 and layer 3 services are provisioned without limitations
of the hardware components.
 The guests should be able to access the network once they are authenticated.
 Use of DHCP for IP address allocation.
 The network admin should be able to control the network from one platform.
The security requirements of the network
 The network shall be segmented into different VLANs.
 Use of firewalls to protect the network.
 Only authorized users will have access to the network.
 Encryption of all the communications in the network.
 All connections to the network carrying users' sensitives information such as user credentials
shall be encrypted in the network[1].
Hardware and software requirements
 The core switches will be used in providing redundancy.
 Access switches shall have a maximum of 24 ports to be connected to the TP links.
 Servers for webmails, DNS introduced in the network.
 Cabling to be done using the cat 6 cables.
Wireless network requirements
 The wireless users shall be able to access the internet and intranet without losing the
connections.
 There shall be full coverage of the wireless network to the entire building without any single
point of failure technologies such ether channel will be used [2].

Importance of information obtained Information obtained
The information obtained will be useful in the following ways.
 It will help in selecting the type of hardware components to be used in the network [3].
 It helps in identifying the type of services the network will allow i.e emailing and internet access.
 It will help in approximating the budget for network implementation.
 Helps in IP address planning and implementation.
 It will help in designing a sketch for the network to be implemented.
The approach used
The design approach used in the network is the top-down approach method. It is a suitable method to
be used in this case since.
 It focuses on network applications to be used.
 It focuses on the goals, of the project.
The approach also uses the requirements of the user as the key points in all the processes of designing
the network[4]. The first step is about identifying the users' requirements and what they need. Other
steps will include designing a network that will fulfill users' requirements. The requirements of the
network required in the hotel was collected. Some of the users were interviewed on what kind of
network services they expected. The network was then designed and tested using simulation software.
