Question 1: Career Development and Lifelong Learning
A. Create your own individual PDP that shows evidence of your development
achieved in the past 12 months and applies your planned development for the next
12 months.
Personal development is essential for an individual so that one can have an improvement in his
own skills. Personal development includes a self-analysis which helps an individual to find out
about the points of strengths in his personality and the areas which need to be improved. I have
also done a self-analysis to develop my potential skills and have improvement in my current
personality trait (Lejeune, et. al., 2018). To draw appropriate self-development plans it is very
important that to be in a good state of mind. When a person is mentally healthy, there is an
increase in the efficiency to generate more effective development plans. I also applied certain
techniques to be in a good mental state. The techniques which I used for myself are given below:
Managing stress level: Management of stress level is very vital to have a state of peace
of mind. If a person has stress, the power, and level of thinking critically is affected
negatively. The techniques which I used to reduce my stress level are yoga, meditation,
and Breath focus. All these techniques help me to bring down my stress levels, and I get
positivity. Positivity has a great role in self-development. As everybody knows that
laughter is the best medicine, I agree with it. I also try to reduce my stress level by
laughing a lot. It reduces the anxiety levels and keeps me cool and calm.
Positive thinking: Positive thinking is another step to be ready for self-assessment and
self-development. I always try to be positive in every situation. When a person thinks
positively, he can find a solution to any problem. Negativity ruins the positive things as
well. To be positive in my thinking, I always try to get inspired by the people around me.
Inner peace is the best way to achieve positive thinking. Getting better sleep is another
way to stay happy and relaxed which ultimately leads to positivity (Beausaert, et. al.,
2011).
Assertiveness: Being assertive is necessary to develop own self. Assertiveness is vital for
the improvement in own personality. The ways through which I stay assertive are that I
listen to others very actively. This helps me to gain more knowledge and also understand

B. Produce an illustrated report that assesses how strategies for skills development
and lifelong learning may enable career development for you and your team
colleagues.
Introduction
Skill development is a process of identification of skills which needs improvement and then
making plans to develop and improve those skills so that work can be completed effectively.
This report will throw light on the strategies that can help me and my team colleagues to have
life-long learning and improvement in the required skills.
Strategies for skill development
Making time for development and progress: It is rightly said that identification of the
present problems is important to have an immediate solution to the problem, but it is
equally vital to make time for identification of future requirements and needs. It is
essential for a person to think of the future situations and make provisions for the
development f the skills that would be required for the future conditions. It must be
understood by a person that the time spent in the identification of future requirements is a
time well spent. An individual must make a priority list of tasks to be performed (García-
Morales, et. al., 2012). This will help in the completion of tasks in time and also improve
the time management skill of the person. The first strategy to develop the skills is the
identification of the skills to be developed.
Every member of the team has different roles and responsibilities in the organisation. The
members must identify the skills required for the tasks to be performed by them
according to their responsibilities. All the members must take into consideration the
objective of the form and the personal goals which they want to achieve. The time spent
in the evaluation of the skills to be developed very crucial as it determines the other
strategies for skill development and lifelong learning.
Employee motivation: Employee motivation is another strategy that helps in the skill
development of an employee. When the employees of an organisation are motivated
enough, they create a sense of satisfaction and are induced to perform to their best

potentialities. Employee motivation is very important for an organisation as the when the
employees are motivated they are retained in an organisation. The management of an
organisation must always try to motivate the employees by various motivation techniques
to develop and improve their skills. This will help the organisation to achieve the main
aim of the organisation and also the personal objectives of the employees.
Improvement in listening skills: Effective listening is the first step towards effective
communication. Effective communication is required in all the phases of life. Effective
communication is the pillar of the success of an organisation (Robles, 2012). A person
must have effective listening quality to develop other required skills. By effective
listening, a person can gain more knowledge in the important topics. If a person listens to
others effectively, he can understand their perception which will assist in effective
decision making. Effective listening also includes accepting the feedbacks from others
and respecting them. This is a very good strategy for the skills development as the
person can evaluate the important points and identify the most relevant points that can
help in the skill development. Effective listening also helps in the learning from a new
perspective. If a person listens to others effectively, it reflects the patience level of the
person which is a requirement for skill development and improvement.
Understanding the consequences: Each and everything has some or the other
consequences which can be seen immediately or in the future. After the identification of
the required skills to be improved, it must be analyzed that what would be the
consequences of the skills and the decision taken. The pros and cons of the skills must be
understood and ascertained in advance. It must be understood that how the skill will help
in the achievement of personal and organisational goals. Long-term opportunities must
also be identified in advance. This strategy assists in the lifelong learning of an
individual. Decision making is the required skill which needs to be possessed by an
individual (Beausaert, et. al., 2013). Understanding the consequences of skills or a
situation is helpful for my colleagues and me to take the best decision in a particular
situation. This will increase in the thinking process and improve the decision making skill
which will contribute to lifelong learning.
Questioning: Critical thinking allows a person to question everything and have a reason
for every situation. One must adopt the strategy of effective questioning. When questions

are asked for something, it opens new avenues for improvement and development. The
strategy of questioning allows a person to think constructively and evaluate things in a
better manner. The person can then easily provide answers to some most important
business questions like if the idea is feasible or not. The person then looks for proof of
everything which is required for the enhancement in the performance of the individual.
The questioning strategy will assist my colleagues and me to think critically in every
business situation. This will help us in having a reason for everything, and this strategy
will always be helpful for us in all the circumstances of personal and professional life.
Being aware of own biases: For self-improvement and development, it is essential to
know about own biases. A person must understand and know about his current situations
and circumstances. Own viewpoints must always be taken into consideration so that there
is clarity of thoughts. One must be open-minded to accept and ignore situations and
always act positively in all the conditions. This strategy can help my colleagues and me
in the carer development and lifelong learning as it is always vital to understand own
condition and then take necessary actions and decisions. The decision must be according
to the situations. This strategy will help my colleagues and me in all the aspects of life
(Jiang, et. al., 2012).
Conclusion
The report concludes that the strategies adopted for the skill development can prove to be
advantageous for my team members and me. The strategies will assist us in taking effective
personal and professional decisions. This will add to our lifelong learning and enhance our
performance graph.

Question 2: High-Performance Individuals and Teams
A. How may high-performance people be developed by effective performance
management?
Effective performance management can be defined as the process of improving the performance
of the employees of an organisation. The management of the organisation aligns team goals for
the employees, and the employees are motivated to achieve the goals in a stipulated time frame.
It is a process undertaken by an organisation so that the productivity of the employees enhances.
The process includes the strategic goal setting, performance planning, review id performances
and identification of development and improvement needs of the employees. The process of
performance management is vital for an organisation as it helps in the overall development of the
employees of the organisation.
The importance of effective performance management is enumerated below. The strategies of
effective performance management are also included in the points given beneath:
Retention of employees: When a company engages in the effective performance
management process, the employees also feel motivated and satisfied that the
organisation is taking effective measures for the employees. This helps the organisation
in the employee retention which is a good thing for the corporation. The employees are
also retained in the organisation as the process of effective performance management
increases their performance graph (Eisele, et. al., 2013).
Development planning: The process of effective performance management also helps
the organisation in the identification of development and improvement needs of the
employees. By the appropriate identification of the development needs of the employees,
the management can generate suitable development plans for the employees which will
ultimately lead to high-performance staff in the company. The development plans will
improve and enhance the skill of the employee which will increase the productivity of the
organisation. In my organisation, the management is actively engaged in the procedure of
effective performance management by providing monthly ranking to the employees
(Dabbagh and Kitsantas, 2012). This enables the company to know about the employees
