Week 12
Question 1: strategies to continually develop my leadership skills
In order to become a highly efficient leader, it is highly crucial for an individual to develop
his or her leadership skills on a continuous basis. The first strategy that I will implement to
ensure a continuous development is assessing my leadership skills, my strengths and weaknesses
on a regular basis. According to Chadwick and Dennis (2017), a leader can only enhance his or
her leadership skill once he or she obtain in-depth understanding of his/her strengths as well as
weaknesses. For instance considering the fact that I have already detected lack of communication
skills as one of my weaknesses, I will be able to work on it and develop the same in near future.
The second strategy that will be implemented by me for developing my leadership skill is to
practice discipline. According to Lawson (2016), discipline can be considered as one of the chief
aspects of a good leader since it helps an individual to achieve success. Discipline will help me
to meet my deadlines keeping the appointments as well as ending meetings on specific times.
Not only this, it will help me to be organized. Not only this, a leader who practices discipline
also motivates his/her followers to practice the same.
Question 2: Three key actions I need to take to further develop my leadership skills and the
reason behind selecting the actions
Considering the fact that I need to develop my communication skills for future developing my
leadership skills, I will take the below mentioned actions to further develop my communication
skills:
1. I will go through videos and books specially written for developing communication style
of the leader: As a leader, it is highly crucial to clearly as well as succinctly explain the

employees about the organization goals. Along with this, communication skill of a leader
is also necessary to develop effective professional leadership with the employees and
motivating them so that they can reach the goal. Being an introvert individual, I believe
that in need to develop the skills of communicating effectively with the employees so that
the above mentioned tasks can be done efficiently by me.
2. I will take extra sessions in order to develop my verbal communication skills and cultural
competence: Considering the fact cultural competence of the leader plays a major role
while working together with employees from different cultural background, for further
developing my leadership skills, I will learn more about different cultures across the
world. It will help me to acknowledge, demonstrate respect as well as encourage my
followers to ensure cultural competence.
3. Setting my own work ethic standard: Considering that it is highly crucial for a leader to
be ethical in order to retain skilled as well as experienced employees, I will develop my
own work ethic standard by demonstrating reliability and trustworthiness to the
employees.
Reflection on Use of Psychometric testing
The psychometric test can be defined as a standard as well as scientific methods that is
used for measuring the mental capabilities as well as behavioral style of an individual. In
leadership context, the psychometric tests are used for assessing as well as evaluating specific
characteristics of personality that is linked with successful leadership. The leadership
questionnaire for the psychometric tests includes a 50 item self report psychometric test. Once
the leer complete answering the questions the responses are analyzed as well as presented with a

summary of what each of the trait score implies about the abilities of the candidate. In order to
assess my leadership skills, I have also used the psychometric test. The character traits that have
been isolated by leadership questionnaire involve organization responsibility, transformational
leadership, assertiveness as well as resourcefulness. One of the chief benefits of using the
psychometric test is that it enabled me to develop effective understanding of my own
capabilities, strengths as well as weakness. For example, I understood that one of my most
effective capabilities that will help me to further develop my leadership skill is adaptability. I
easily adapt in adverse situation and possess the potential to develop effective strategies to
normalize the same. Not only this, this attitude of mine reflects on my personality and employees
as a result, find me approachable. Another strength of mine includes faith in the employers. As a
leader, I believe, it is highly crucial to trust the followers since this not only helps in coordination
but also possess the potential to build an effective leader-employee relationship. According to
Bligh (2017), work cultures that are able to demonstrate a strong sense of trust within the
organization, possess the potential to see a good number of benefits that includes increased
productivity, increased morale as well as enhanced loyalty amongst the staffs. The ability of
working more effectively in a team also gets enhanced in case a culture of trusting each other in
the workplace can be set.
Along with my capabilities and strengths, I also understood some of my major
weaknesses after using the psychometric tests. These weaknesses were not known to me before.
One such weakness incudes my dominant nature and lacks emotional management. In today’s
era, where majority of the organizations are referring to the transformational leadership style in
order to empower the employees, my nature of controlling and leading the group can impose

lack of the potential to consider the pressure I impose on my followers. Considering the fact this
may tend to job dissatisfaction of the employees and even attrition of skilled employees, I need
to develop skis to deal with this attribute of mine. When it comes to controlling my emotion,
after attaining the sessions, I have developed the skills to a great level.
