INTRODUCTION
Introduction to people management concern with monitoring the effectiveness of people
and quality to improve workplace communication and prepare employees to achieve the
objectives (Ahmed and et.al., 2018). It includes the process of training, motivating and directing
to promote the professional growth in employees and it is useful in many workplace situation. In
this report the company chosen is Easy Jet which is British multinational airline group that
provides low-cost services to people headquartered at London Lutton Airport. It consist
international services over 1000 routes in 30 countries and has good reputed airline organisation
in UK. In this report it is include the certain contemporary issues faced in managing different
people on company when it comes to people management. Apart from that knowledge, skills and
behaviours which is required to be an effective manager or leader and how it impact on the
functioning of organisation and discussing the HR process that underpin and helps in support
management is being analysed.
Contemporary issues confront by management line
People management comes with many responsibility to regulate the activities and
functions of employees of organisation and develop their effectiveness to enhance their work
performance (Dugdale, Turoff and Negre, 2020). During all these many contemporary issues
face by line management to manage the people of company and it is necessary to manage and
control them properly. Some following issues are prevailing in the company of Easy Jet and
makes it necessary to maintaining the relations with employees. Some of issues are as follows-
Changes in management- This concerns with changing in the environment of
organisation that includes the change in rules, policies and rules in company. This impact
the working conditions of employees to the some level and this issue is face by not only
employees but also other people which are associated with organisation. Sometime to
accept the changes in management takes time and due to that their productivity has been
reduced and decline in their work performance. This issues used to face by employees of
Easy Jet, where they take time to accept the changes and different challenges that came
across during that period. As in Airline company, there are many policies and rules that
were very important to consider for workforce while working and changes in them will
influence the employees. The theory model that will need in this issues is Administrative

management theory as it include various aspects that is will the manager to solve the
issue and to understand it in more better way. It gives the assistant to know the situation
of employees in organisation and to give solution to confront the issues.
Adaptation of Innovation- This concern with changes in innovation in the organisation
that involves in promoting into different aspect of creativity and development of new
change in company (Garavan, McCarthy and Carbery, 2017). It hinders the performance
of line manager and create the problem for them to direct the employee about the new
innovation in organisation. The problem could be that employees are not empowered to
innovate and motivates either. In the airline company Easy Jet, the change in innovation
has put adversely impact on performance of them as they need to learn and start the
training from stretch. They required to provide the whole training and development to
them and then only they able to coordinate with the situation. They are unable to perform
the task without adequate training period and need proper guidance to accept the change.
In this issue the line manager can adopt the theory related to the contingency theory to
better confront the issues as in this situation line manager able to choose any methods and
techniques to resolve the issue and gives freedom to achieve it in more better way.
Compensation- This involve in providing fair cash rewards in the exchange of goods and
services they provide to company. It consist of salary, wages, incentives and commission
and different company benefit to them. So, providing the equal salary and compensation
will increase the trust of employees towards the organisation and this is the responsibility
of line manager to provide them accordingly (Hurmelinna-Laukkanen and Olander,
2019). It is important to fulfil the desired and expectation of employees so that they can
perform better. In the company Easy Jet, they usually face this issue and need to be
address properly to satisfy the grievances related to the compensation. So, identification
of this problem is essential and finding out the solution is necessary to resolve this issue.
In this situation the theory that is applicable is Administrative management theory by
Henri Fayol where the concept of fair remuneration is stated and will help the line
manager to used this model for this issue.
Training and development- This is main duty and responsibility of line manager to
provide the proper training to them so that they can perform the task effectively and
maintaining the efficiency is also necessary (Winata and et.al., 2020). It is essential to

coordinate them into appropriate manner and promote the effectiveness. Line manger
need to determine the required skills and knowledge needed in work to perform the task
in proper and the issue has occurred during this period. In the company Easy Jet, the
training and development department is very important as they has to clearly define the
required skills and knowledge needed to provide them. Employees needs extensive
training before get into the work like Pilot required proper knowledge and training
sessions. During this, line manager has to face many issues and problems and to resole
them so that they can perform the task easily. In this situation the model that could be
applicable is Human relation theory where it is stated that improving the productivity and
foundation of human relations by focusing on working condition.
Analysing the skills and behaviours needed in leadership
To manage the employees in company required many skills and behaviours and some
qualities need to be very different and maintaining the whole scenario is important (Jyoti, 2019).
This skills and characteristic are necessary to accomplish the task and monitor the employees
effectively. To be an effective people manager the following feature is required to fulfil the
expectation of employees and whole organisation as well. In the Company Easy Jet, the manager
must posses some qualities to handle various issues related to any other aspect to enhance the
performance of whole company. Following are the skills that required in manager to regulate the
performance of employees-
Planning of management functions- An effective leader knows how to plan the all
different function of management such as recruiting, controlling, directing and organising
the activities. Some needs to properly determined by the manager that how the things go,
and what are the requirement of it. Planning of policies, strategies, rules and regulation of
the functions of organisation required lots of time and knowledge and this is the skills
that must be posses by manager. Some important requirement is necessary to enhance the
performance of company and in the company Easy Jet, the manager need to be perform
effectively to manage whole function and activities of organisation. An efficient leader is
must know how to handle the situation and maintaining the relationship with other.
Leadership skills- This is most important quality of manager and it involve guiding,
motivating and influence the employees to perform the task more effectively and
efficiently in company (van Sprang and Drion, 2020). It is necessary to develop the

sense of belongingness in employees to work more hard and maintaining the better
relationship with them as well. It also involves the resolving the issues of employees
during their work and solve them as needed. It is necessary to identify the situation where
they can execute their task properly and it also include strength and weaknesses of all
employees and assign the task accordingly. In the company Easy Jet, the manager need to
lead, motivate and guide them appropriately to make them perform effectively. In big
organisation, the role of leader is necessary and it is important to maintain the overall
condition of employees and able to deliver the task properly.
Decision making skills- Another essential skills required is decision making skills that is
very important to have in effective leader and create the proper working environment for
employees is big task for manager (Liu, 2019). It comes with big responsibility when it
comes to the leading the employees and decision making is the core quality that must
have in manager. To manage the whole organisation and employees required to have
good decision making skills and qualities to carry out the activities and function so that
all different department able to run properly. In the company Easy Jet, the effective
manager is taking important decision for the betterment of organisation and providing
assistance to them. It involve the different actions and decision to monitor whole
functions and activities and that might include some important steps that need to be taken
and manager should have this quality and skills.
Delegation skills- It refers to delegating the task and responsibility to subordinate and it
is usually made by managers and it happen when there is less use of chain of authority in
organisation. To properly execute the task this skills should be in manager as effectively
delegate the task to their subordinate according to their specifications and area d interest
is essential. To give the proper feedback and assigning the task is important is the duty of
manager and for communication must be clear between leader and employees. In this it
include various activities and functions which are active listening, proper feedback,
explaining the task to the guidelines and communicate them the expectations from the
task. In the Easy Jet, they used to establish the communication with their employees that
what are the task that need to be performed and give all necessary information regarding
the work (Vilke and Tadić, 2020). This skill helps the manager to manage whole

operational functions and activities effectively and deliver the task to subordinate so that
no confusion is created during the task.
Determining the HR process to enhance the performance of management
There are some HR process that need to be conducted effectively in order to improve the
performance and need to be done properly. Some process are there that required to be follow by
HR to manage the performance of whole organisation. In the company Easy Jet, HR used to use
some method to enhance the effectiveness of organisation. Following are the process that were
conducted-
Performance management review- It is formal assessment in which manager evaluates
employee work performance through identifying the strength and weakness and offer
some feedback to them when required and set the goal. It become necessary to develop
the performance of company and review their feedback. To conduct this there are some
ways such as casual and formal and employees should be encouraged to it. It also called
performance appraisal or performance evaluation and many organisation annual
performance review for whole workforce. In the context of company Easy Jet, the HR
require to understand how they are performing and it includes the preparation of notes
where employees make notes before performance review (O'Brien and et.al., 2020). In
the organisation the self evaluation is must be practices and identify their strength and
weaknesses and developing the performance and goals on their own. So, this process is
effective for HR to support the management and whole functions and activities.
360 degree appraisal- This was first used in 1940s and with multiple feedback and
360method provided each employee the opportunity to receive performance from his
supervisor,peers, staff members and costumer. This tool is mostly used by middle and
senior level and most of organisation used this method to assess the potential of staff and
make the employees to map their career (Sankaran, 2017). In the context of company
Easy Jet, this will be very useful to provide the appropriate feedback to employees and so
that they can analyse them and implement in their future growth. This process is helpful
in big organisation and it promote the efficiency in company and develop overall success
of firm.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that an organisation need to adopt proper management theory to
confront many contemporary issues that line manager need to take proper considerations. The
model that could be adopt is Administration management theory that is very useful in
implementing in company and proper execution is necessary. The effective qualities that an
manager could adopt are Leadership skills that include the all important characteristics and apart
from that decision making skill is need to be adopt to be effective manager. To ensure the HR
Process that required to be followed to monitor the performance of employees is 360 degree
appraisal system that will be very effective to support the management efficiency.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that Introduction to people management concern
with regulating and monitoring the effectiveness of people and enhance their performance in
organisation. It is important to improve the quality of employees and create better environment
for them. In this report it is discussed the contemporary issues face by line management while
managing different people in organisation. Apart from that required skills and behaviour needed
to be effective manager and to handle the situation effectively has been analysed and certain HR
process that used in management to enhance the performance of entire organisation.
