Introduction
The report aims in discussing the actual purpose of performance appraisals within an
organization. It is necessary for an HR manager to ensure that the process of performance review
that is followed in an organization is a positive experience for the employee that will motivate
them to work for the organization (DeNisi & Gonzalez, 2017). The following paragraphs provide
a detailed idea of the purpose and significance of performance appraisals within an organization.
1. Purpose of Performance Appraisal
Performance appraisal is generally described as a formal process that examines the
performance of an employee based on his/her productivity and effectiveness. The performance
appraisal process mainly has three basic functions which include providing feedback to a
particular person based on the performance (DeNisi & Murphy, 2017). Performance appraisal
process often serve as a tool to change the behavior of a particular employee to make him/her
more effective in their work. Apart from that, the performance appraisal process provides the
necessary data and information that enables the managers to judge the assignments of future job
in similar role and the payment that is to be rolled out for a particular role in the organization.
Therefore, the entire process of appraisal of the performance needs well-management, as the
process aims to judge the outcome of the behavior of a particular employee.
2. Ensuring Performance Review a Positive Experience
It is quite vital for an HR manager to ensure that the process of reviewing the
performance of an employee is a positive encounter. One of the main responsibilities of an HR
manager is to regulate the performance management of the employees by creating a space or an
environment where an employee can produce excellent work (Iqbal, Akbar & Budhwar, 2015).

In order to make the process of review of the performance is a positive experience for the staffs
and employees, it is important for an HR manager to collect all the necessary information about
the employees, mainly their achievements and the problems they have faced (Cravens et al.,
2015). The achievement should be rewarded while the problems should be addressed to motivate
the employee regarding the work they perform in an organization. Furthermore, the high
performance of review of the employees should be uncovered and rewarded so that they find the
motivation to perform consistently well for the organization.
Conclusion
The report provides an idea of the main purpose of performance review within an
organization. The report further identifies the process by which a performance review in an
organization can be an engaging and positive experience for an employee.
