Introduction
Performance appraisal is defined as systematic process where performance of employees
is measured and evaluated on which they have performed and contributed to enterprise. This is
also called performance or annual review (Abbas and et. al., 2014). The chosen organisation for
research work is Ramada Jarvis which was established in 1996 at London, United Kingdom. This
is four and five star hotels having 42 hotels and five overseas. In order to run business
successfully, it is important to evaluate performance of employees so that organisation can
achieve their goals and objectives. The aim of report is to highlights importance of performance
appraisal in hospitality sector and their timeline for achieving it successfully. The questionnaire
is prepared to know about perception of people regarding performance appraisal.
Background
Performance appraisal is referred as procedure in order to measure and evaluate
performance of employees. Ramada Jarvis is hotel chain of four and five star throughout United
Kingdom. It consists of 42 hotels at five overseas in order to provide service to users. This was
incorporated by John Jarvis and became private in 2003 by management buyout for £159
million. There are also clubs in hotel for their private members. It is essential for hospitality
industry to measure performance of their employees so that they can get motivated and
encouraged towards organisation for providing services to their consumers and visitors.

The research problem can be related with tools and techniques, resources, funding and
other. There are various methods used for performance appraisals which is difficult for
researcher to select appropriate method to get appropriate solution to problems. Similarly,
researcher also face problem in resources such as lack of appropriate books, journals, print
media, books and others for collecting data and information. The researcher also face problem of
time and funds which is limited or should be completed in given time period.

is defined as an evaluation of performance of employees by supervisor over period of time. They
are more time consuming, important and unpopular task in administration (What Do

employees so that they can motivate and encourage them for better work performance. This is
very important for organisation to use proper tools and techniques for performance appraisals for
working force. It is conducted when employees are performing job in an organisation.
Performance appraisal is important part of the organisation and which motivates the employees
and also make target oriented task. Appraisals most recommended performance for every

employees need to respect through their work and it is necessary to highlight the hard work of
employees. The performance appraisal need to modified so that the work are been analysed

people, offering competitive pay and benefits, praising, showing career for right path, arranging

employee’s turnover can be controlled and organisation can achieve goal and objectives. Skilled

issue that can be seen in today's organisation is employee is not so motivated with work which
has been assigned to them because the work has to explain properly by the management to its
employees. The more incentives are provided to the employees then only the workers are
gonging to be happy. The one of the important element for employees is the salary which should
pay on time and employees working hours should be according to their capabilities. Less skilled
labour should be trained properly and guidelines should be given to them.

analysed by the work and company should make certain strategies to make the environment

to be done in systematic manner, so for that employees need to be encouraged and also giving

so that is why the work environment should be such a manner so that employees can work
properly. Main issue facing by the company is less appraisal to the talented employees so the
employees is becoming demotivate and the work is higher than the organisation goal. Less
reduction of employee’s turnover show less satisfaction of the employees. Employer and
employees should be in a good relation show that higher output is expected. The working styles
should change according to the updated technology.

There are various methods of data collection which are as follows:
Primary- This is the method where data and information are collected for first time.
Collecting the data from first hand person. It is collected through observations, questionnaire,
surveys, experiments, personal interview and others. It provide accurate and reliable data and
information in an effective and efficient manner (Jang and George, 2012). This research help to
make personal networking strong and even also it is a time consuming but it gives good
outcome. It is one of the best techniques through which work is done systematic. Foe any
enquiries primary data collection is done in a best way.
Secondary- When data and information are collected from collected or published sources
then it is called secondary research. It uses sources of books, internal records, government
publications, articles, websites. This research does not provide accurate and reliable data and

secondary data which is limited and is restricted.
After analysing above method, it can be concluded that respective organisation need to
use primary research for collection of data and information as it provide accurate information for
given project. It is also good survey or tool of techniques that researcher use. As compared to
primary data collection secondary data is less time consuming.
Qualitative- This is also called exploratory research which is used for gaining
understanding of opinions, motivations and underlying reasons. It also helps in providing deep
understanding of problems and developing ideas for arise problems in business (Kim, 2012). In
this research the researcher set certain parameters while preparing the questionnaire. The
questions are prepared open ended.
Quantitative- In order to collect data and information, quantitative research uses
mathematical, numerical analysis and statistical tools and techniques to get solution. This is
based on practical approach as tools and techniques are used. In this data collection the
researcher has to be in limited research design and the questionnaire is bounded to make in close
ended design.
After analysing both, organisation should use qualitative research because it provide in deep
knowledge about given topic to collect data and information.
Sample Size
It is defined as an act of selecting number of observations for survey or experiment. The
sample size chosen for assigned project is 30.
