AI Summary
This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the performance management issues presented in the "The Alpha Omega Group" case study. The analysis identifies several key problems, including the manual and time-consuming nature of the performance evaluation process, a narrow grading system leading to inflated scores, and ambiguous rating criteria. The study also highlights the lack of constructive feedback opportunities for employees and managers. To address these issues, the paper recommends the implementation of an online performance evaluation system, modification of the rating system to incorporate both qualitative and quantitative performance, and ensuring transparency and clarity in the performance management process. 1PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Introduction
As stated by DeNisi and Murphy (2017), performance management is the process
through which the business corporations ensure that the activities or the job roles performed by
its workers or its outputs matches with the organizational goals or the objectives. Cappelli and
Tavis (2016) are of the viewpoint that performance management focuses on the aspect of
performance of the organization, its different departments, teams, individual employees and also
ensures the fact that it is in conjunction or alignment with the expectations or the performance
standards of the corporation. Thus, it had been seen the different corporations undertake regular
performance assessments for analyzing the performance of its workers and on the basis of this
adequate constructive feedbacks, training programs and others are being offered to them. The
purpose of this paper is to undertake an analysis of the performance management issues
highlighted in the case study “The Alpha Omega Group” and thereby offer adequate
recommendations to the corporation for the resolution of the same.
Performance Management Issues of Alpha Omega Group
The case study under discussion here clearly indicates that there are various issues
associated with the performance management system which is presently being used by the Alpha
Omega Group. The traditional or for that matter the manual nature of the performance evaluation
process used by the corporation is perhaps the most important issue. For instance, the employees
as well as the managers needs to manually fill-in the performance evaluation documents which in
turn takes a significant amount of time and this in turn delays the performance evaluation of the
workers. As a matter of fact, the case study clearly indicates the performance evaluation of more
than 50% of the workers of the corporation are due by more than 30 days despite the fact that the

corporation is supposed to undertake the performance evaluation of the workers on their work
anniversary. Furthermore, it had been seen that because of the narrow range of the grading
system used for assessing or reviewing the performance of the workers it had been seen that the
majority of the workers despite their actual performance or the contribution that had made
towards the overall growth of the corporation end up getting an average score of 3 on a scale of 5
and thereby get good performance increments. More importantly, it had been seen that the
majority of the managers of the corporation under discussion here had also complained about the
ambiguous nature of the rating system which is being used by the corporation and thus they find
it very difficult to link the employee behavior with the criteria highlighted in the performance
appraisal. In addition to these, the performance evaluation forms do not offer adequate
opportunity to the managers to offer constructive feedbacks to the workers which they can use
for the enhancement of their performance. These in short are some of the most important short-
comings of the performance management system which is being followed by the Alpha Omega
Group.
Recommendations
Some of the most important measures that the Alpha Omega Group can use for
overcoming or resolving the performance management issues which it is presently facing are
listed below-
Usage of online performance evaluation process: Alpha Omega Group can send the
performance evaluation forms to the employees through emails or post it over the portal
of the employees wherein they can update the same. This will not only help the
corporation to save a significant amount of time but would also reduce the work of the

managers related to this process substantially. More importantly, this will also ensure the
fact that the workers do not have to face any delays in their performance appraisal after
the completion of their work anniversary.
Modification of the Rating system: Alpha Omega Group needs to significantly change
the manner in which the employees and also the managers grade them. For instance,
rather than the sole usage of the rating system, the employees should have the option to
justify the ratings which they have given themselves. In addition to these, the managers
should also be able to offer adequate constructive feedbacks to the employees which in
turn would enable them to improve their performance.
Alpha Omega Group is presently focusing solely on the quantitative performance given
by the employees and the aspect of qualitative performance or for that matter the
contribution that the employees have made towards the growth or the development of the
corporation is being relegated to the background. Thus, it becomes all the more important
for the corporation to substantially modify or improve its performance management
system and thereby take into account both the qualitative and the quantitative
performance of the workers so as to make its performance management system a more
effective one.
The majority of the managers have complained that the performance management
system which is presently being used by the corporation under discussion here is very
ambiguous in nature. Thus, the corporation needs to make its performance management
system a concrete or for that matter a transparent one which in turn would enhance the
effectiveness of the performance management system used by it.

Conclusion
To conclude, the adequate usage of the process of performance management helps the
business corporations to adequately manage their overall performance by periodically assessing
the individual performances of its different workers. Furthermore, it had been seen that on the
basis of this evaluation constructive feedbacks, training programs and others are being given to
the workers. More importantly, the corporations are required to ensure the fact that the
performance evaluation or the performance management system which is being used by them is
transparent, easy to follow, offer adequate opportunity to the performance reviewers to provide
constructive feedbacks and others. These aspects of the process of performance management
become apparent from the above discussion of the same in the particular context of the Alpha
Omega Group and the recommendations that it needs to follow for the purpose of overcoming
the performance management issues that it is presently facing.
