Task 5

There are number of ways by which we can provide support to people who have some kind of
disability such as: listening to them, asking specific questions, making them feel valued and
comfortable by talking about interesting areas. Knowing their hobbies and engaging them in
them. Some principles include: do not make them feel de-valued and follow all rules of anti-
discrimination act.

Anxiety is other main behaviour that can be seen in people with disability. When they are
being treated in an unfair manner then they become depressed. By protecting them from
events from which they fear and talking with them in a fair manner can be effective.
Social isolation. People believe that they are not as like others and people will not treat them
effectively. Encouragement and education to people is the best treatment.
School phobia and refusing to follow instructions. It can affect their physical growth and it
can be treated by encouraging them to talk with other students.
TASK 6
Observation
In regard to Kylie, I can say that she was seen as a different person within 3 days. First day
when she went for shopping, shoe shouted on me and also frightened other people.
Her behaviour became very strange on second day as she threw her breakfast through
window. It made her parents disturbed as her mother was crying and for making Kylie feel
good I planned a film and picnic but she said bad word that made me surprised.

When I was ready and all set to take her out for picnic, her father called me and told me that
they did not sleep last night and Kylie as well as they are not in a mood so there is no need to
come home and go out.
Next day, when I went to meet Kylie then I saw again she became normal. Her drastic mood
swings made me surprised and I believe that it is all because of her disability.
b. On the basis of this observation, it can be said that her behaviour was escalating as she was
yelling, shouting, throwing items and it was seen on day 2nd after the day when I bought her a
new pair of red shoe.
c. As I know that kylie is suffering from intellectual disability and I found some reasons that
can make this situation worse. On the basis of factors, I can say that reasons of her de-
escalated behaviour on 2nd day was: influence of social environment.
4. One of the best ways of handling de-escalation behaviour of intellectual disable people is
to have fun, engaging them in their interested field and hobbies. Using simple sentence to
ensure understanding and distracting them with other things.
TASK 7
Reasons
On the basis of case of Simon, it has say that he is a busy person and loves to cook and spend
time with his family. But suddenly after working for 5 days, he shouted on one of the staff
when staff said meal is not ready. So, on the basis of this, it can be said that some reasons of
his challenging behaviour can be frustration and poor relations with others. May be he did not
spend time with his family and went out for roaming and working continuously. Poor issues
with other staff and frustration can be reason.

2. Staff did not say anything as they only told him that lunch would not be ready for an hour.
So, as per this it can be said that staff should told the reason as why they did not cook and
calmly they should have told them.
3. Skills that Simon need to learn for smooth working and becoming successful is: active
listening, communication, strong relations and flexibility. By engaging Simon in team
working and other fun activities, Simon can be encouraged for reinforcing these skills by
staff.
TASK 8
In regard to social role valorisation, it can be said that it is a dynamic set of ideas that are
useful for making positive changes in the lives of those people who are disadvantageous only
because of their status, possess in society. This theory and principles are being used
specifically in services to adults, children and elders. Overall aim of this theory is to improve
living standard of people, providing equality to all, promote diversity and uplift social
situation of all. The reason of giving it name as social valorisation is all because of the
concept for transacting human relationship as well as services.
2. Summary
As on the basis of observation, I can say that Paul, who is suffering from intellectual
disability started self-harming at sheltered workshop environment. Reason is not known till
now. It is found that he is able to dress, is continent. But self-harming has frightened other
workers and it may pose a risk to others as well.
3. There are some stages of escalation behaviour as some days’ people stay calm then there is
a trigger phase which means some factor trigger behaviour and then client become
aggressive. So, on the basis of these stages, it can be said that Paul’s behaviour is escalating
as for 2 days he was fine but on third day he became aggressive and hurt himself.

c. One of the main reason can be intellectual disability. It is known that environmental and
people’s behaviour is the main factor that make intellectual disability worse. So, conflict or
poor relation with workers can be reason of his aggressive behaviour
d. It is important for his parents and workers to make him feel valued, talking through
emotions. As it is seen that he is self-hurting and has dripped wood working saw on his foot.
It caused injury. This challenging behaviour can be dangerous for others as well. When such
people are being talked in a fair and effective manner then they are more likely to engage
with others and it improves their relations and behaviour as well. Cognitive behaviour
therapy can also help out in improving behaviour.
e. Person with disability act 1995 is organisational policy. It can be applicable on Paul’s case
as he is also suffering from intellectual disability and hurting himself. It might cause
problems to others. So, by following rules of this policy and treating him in a fair manner as
like others, his aggressive behaviour can be decreased.
f. Positive reinforcement means to identify as well as teach specific behaviour to client with
the main aim of seeing an increase in desired behaviour. Some positive reinforcements that
can help out Paul in improving his behaviour is Verbal praise in front of others, engaging in
fun activities, engaging in team working and allowing extra vacation so that he can take rest
and can enjoy with family and friends.
g. On continuous basis or every 3-5 days, behaviour of intellectual disable people need to be
reviewed.
h. Self-harm, yelling on others, mood swing, negative harm behaviour towards others,
denying to have meal and deny to follow instructions.
I There are 2 main strategies and principles that can be used as per the SRV in order to
improve behaviour and social roles of people for those who are at issues such as: competency
and image. Image strategies can improve chances of Paul in positive response towards work
and others. Working in a group and working in individually to get reward.

 Behaviour refers to the ways in which the person act or may conduct himself
specifically towards other. While supporting the person positive and adaptive
response it is important that behaviour of person must be understood.
 Patient behaviour plays the vital role in the adherence and the success of the treatment
can be assured.

 Working cooperatively with the other people in terms of achieving the major
objective has been refereed as the acceptable behaviour.
 The behaviour of the another person or people has been accepted which depicts the
positive response.

 Behaviour management is all about guiding the patient in order to behaviour towards
specific things in appropriate way.
 This is the positive constructive approach that helps in managing the negative aspects
of behaviour and influences the positive behaviour.

Being polite and patient with the people who have disability has been determined as the
effective communication techniques for people who have disability. This helps in creating the
effective interaction and often promotes the emotional bond. As a result, people with
disability easily speaks about their issues and problems which is beneficial in their treatment
procedure.

A)- Behaviour change model helps in solving the behavioural issues of the client and assures
positivity. This helps in contributing the success of the self-control and health enhancing
behaviour that helps in assuring self-control in client which is beneficial for them. Often, this
leads to help client in adopting correct behaviour pattern as well.
b)- Reality therapy helps in reviewing the behaviour as the choice. It is mainly based over
taking the accountability and responsibility of the choices and helps in selecting more
efficient actions. This helps patient with their psychological symptoms and the mental health
conditions.
c)- This technique helps in solving the behavioural issues of client within assessing the
situation and understanding the conflicts. Afterwards, the conflicts are being addressed and
the patient feels more comfortable. Thus, this technique helps in understanding the cause of
conflicts.
TASK-11
1) The positive communication strategy in this situation can be used for calming and
handling Michelle is based on SBAR that includes Situation, background, assessment
and recommendation. Also “Focusing over the issue rather than the patient” the focus
will be made over the issue that is creating the situation. Another strategy is, “Being
genuine with the Michelle rather than being manipulative.
2) The positive communication strategies that can be used for customers is trying to
communicate them the situation of Michelle and influence them to support her and be
patient till she gets normal.
3) Within using the recommendation attribute from SBAR approach the proper
recommendation is being made to Michelle in regards to educating her on using of
door and turnstile while leaving the pool as this leads to create harm for her.
Therefore, proper education over this needs to be assured to her.

Self-harm and harm to others. People at disability service can hurt themselves and others and
it can increase fear among all.
Stress, screaming and yelling on others is other common challenging behaviour.
b. Unaccepted behaviour can be considered as unwanted and at disability service
organisation, employees have to deal with number of unaccepted behaviour that include:
aggression and abusive behaviour. People with disability shout and abuse others.
Bullying and harassment with others can also be unaccepted as it can affect discipline and
mental health of patients.
c. Firstly, I will try to calm patient and try to make him comfortable so that he can share his
feelings with me. Immediately, I will call consultants and healthcare professionals and will
distract him with other things.
d. It may make him calm and can help out in becoming normal. It can protect me others from
harm and aggressive behaviour that is important for all.
E. Specialist professions and consultants can be asked for help in order to make patient calm
and handling his challenging behaviour.

1- In first case, the parents (father and mother) and their children have been included.
Om second case, children are involved in the case.
2- Safety issues that requires the consideration are keeping focus over the extent of stress
parents are having so this cannot impact the children. In second scenario, parents are
far away from children that requires extra care for children. Thus safety in regards to
physical, emotional and mental harm needs to be taken in consideration.
3- Focusing over the needs of children and creating effective interaction over the
children by parents helps in preventing the further escalation to their situation. Parents
are not in specific condition. Therefore, it is impacting the children in negative
manner.
4- This can be done through
 Talking about the feelings
 Keeping self-active and focusing over the social and emotional issues
 Keeping in touch with the friends and family.
5- The strategies that can be sued in both the cases are- providing support to the child,
gaining the trust of child that their privacy will not be breached, providing
appreciation to the child and understanding their issues.

written by the person who is involved in the case. Audience are- investigators, law
enforcement and the judges.

being made by the case manager and audience is the patient and patient’s family members
and higher administrator in healthcare.
c)- The purpose of this is concerned with the managing the safety concern of patient. It helps
in risk management. It has been prepared by the administration team of healthcare and the
audience is government.
d)- The purpose of behavioural management plan is that it includes strategies and measures
that are required for managing the behaviour of patient. It has been prepared by the service
provider who is handling case and the audience is the patient’s family members.
e)- Care plans guides the nurse and other care team members in context of organizing the
major aspects related to patient care. It has been prepared by the nurses and the audience is
the patient.
f)- This helps in providing the records that consist the series of events related to the patient’s
care. It helps clinicians to compare the patient progress. It has been prepared by the care team
members and the audience is patient and his family members.
2- Case note and incidence report has bene prepared on regular basis as these are based on
undertaking the regular basis information that is helpful in dealing with the case of patient
and helps patient to get fast recovery. Therefore, these reports are written on regular basis so,
the clinical outcomes become more effective.
3- It is necessary to comply with an organization’s reporting requirements as this helps in
protecting the healthcare team. The risks can be neglected with the help of this and this is
