Thus, with the help of this essay that Person Centred Care and Approach will be analysed
and explained. It will also be explained that how professional practice is important for initial
response for topic being undertaken. Own skills, professional experience or discipline knowledge
will be analysed which will be done with help of Gibbs’s Reflective Cycle. Further,
understanding of how things work in this professional field which is health and social care under
which main topic which is taken is Person Centred Approach and Care. Different perspectives
will also be addressed which is – ethical, social, legal, organization, professional. Along with
this, action plan will also be framed helping in analysing implemented changes which is required
in behaviour and understanding in case of Daisy.

The topic which has been taken is person centred approach which helps in explaining the
aspect that it is the approach where the person is placed at the centre of the service and treated as
the person first. In person centred approach, the focus is on the person and what all work they are
able to do rather than their disability or condition (Santana Manalili and et.al., 2018). The
persons aspirations are focused upon as how effectively and in efficient manner the care is being
taken of them. Person centred approach is important to the professional practice as person
centred care supports people top develop the knowledge, confidence and skills so that they are
able to manage their work and take informed decisions about their own health care and health.
Person centred approach and care helps in finding ways which bare suitable to
communicate and maximise the quality of care. It helps in improving the independence which
has been addressed by them for so long. This professional practice helps in addressing the aspect
as to how the person can take their own decisions which encourages them to analyse that how to
take care of their own health and how they are able to ensure the ways through which they can be
provided help. This is the professional practice which helps in addressing the values and needs of
the person such that the aspects of improvement in the care practice are being taken care of
(Anker‐Hansen, Skovdahl and et.al., 2018). Person centred care is important as a professional
practice as it helps in knowing that the person can take decisions by themselves and this helps on

knowing that the person is not treated as weak or ill rather is taking decisions based on the care,
they have been provided by discussing with them. This care and approach help in understanding
the needs and requirements of the person and how effectively they are taking concern of the
aspects at large scale within this care approach.
My initial feeling and learning about the topic are that I was able to learn how the person-
centred care can be provided to the person and how effectively and in appropriate manner I am
able to consider the person cemented care effectively as I got to learn many new things. My
initial feelings about the topic also constituted that I thought that the person-centred approach
was that the care is being provided to the person not what are the requirements as the patient is
treated as ill and disable but on studying further, I found that the person-centred approach is the
care which is taken under the decisions of the person which are being taken effectively and
significantly. I have learned many things in the person-centred approach as how the care of the
person has been taken and provided by discussing with them (McNaughton, Light and et.al.,
2019). I have also learned and felt that there are certain positive aspects while taking care of the
person and involving them to the care which has to be provided to them at large scale. I have also
felt that this approach provides better understanding of the actual self and increases the ability to
trust on oneself. Person centred approach and care also helps in addressing the therapy which is
provided to the person and how effectively the care is being provided to the person.
My personal experience was when I heard and handled the case of Daisy which was a 40-
year-old lady who was facing person upheaval for which she is now experiencing trauma at a
severe level. Daisy had a head injury 5 years ago and now she is facing the after effects which
has led her in her cognitive difficulties which has further led to the characteristic dysfunction
including poor planning, repetition and impulsiveness. This case is being explained with the help
of Gibbs Reflective Model which is -
Case Study - I studied and completed the assessment of Daisy as the staff was unable to
take care of the person and this had led to severe conditions of Daisy which needed appropriate
and quick treatment (Cardiff, McCormack and et.al., 2018). I took the counselling service to be
provided to Daisy so that she is able to communicate what needs and requirements she is looking
for her care. The counselling session was undertaken by me which helped her to communicate

needs. It was concluded from the situation and the communication that she needs proper
treatment and care for her health. I understood that Daisy has been facing the psychological
distress as she also said that her husband left her and got divorced which made her mental
condition more stressful.
Therefore, I decided to provide her person-centred care therapy so that she is able to take
care of herself and that all facilities and requirements are fulfilled in her providence of care. I
was able to understand her situation as before also I have handled such situation of providing
care to the person through the person-centred therapy and counselling. Under such situations I
am able to learn many things and through this, I have learned many things and improved my way
of how the treatment is provided to the Daisy and other persons who are in need ( Gillet, Caesens
and et.al., 2019). Things went well in terms of my knowledge and experience as I was able to
take care of the person by considering and communicating with them that what are their wants
and requirements at large scale. There are certain aspects as to how effectively and in appropriate
manner I was able to learn many new things about how person care is being taken.
My good experience while taking concern of how the care is to be provided to Daisy was
that I was able to take care of aspect that proper care is being provided to Daisy through the
therapy and counselling which was being undertaken. This was my good experience that I was
able to understand the situation of Daisy and provided care to her (Bhattacharyya, Blumenthal
and et.al., 2019). With my knowledge and expertise, I was able to take care of aspect that how
the care is being provided to Daisy as per discussed with her of her requirements and needs
which were to be fulfilled. The bad experience which I faced was that treatment process which
was undertaken for Daisy took lot of time as she was unable to cope up with the mental pressure
she was feeling during her tough time. I also had the bad experience in looking to the situations
which were coming forth in situations of Daisy’s psychological distress. One of the major bad
experiences which I had faced was that I had faced fatigue and unfairness due to empathy.
In the person-centred approach and care provided to the person, there are significant
factors in learning experience showing that they are important for how care is being provided to
person. Person centred approach and care helps in understanding the aspects as to how
effectively and in appropriate manner care is being taken of person by discussing and
communicating the positive and negative aspects of care and their health. Some of the significant

factors which are important for learning are described as congruence, empathy and
unconditional positive regard.
These three factors help in understanding that person centred care should be taken to
address positive aspects as to how effectively and in appropriate manner the care is to be
provided to the person. With the help of empathy and congruence, I have learned that I was able
to understand situation of Daisy and through that I was able to take care of her and provide care
which she needs by communicate with her on what are her needs and requirements (North,
2020). These three factors are important for learning and new understanding as it helped me in
knowing that how positively I can take care of Daisy so that she is cured easily and recovers
from her psychological distress which she is facing. I have also learned that with help of person-
centred approach and care, I understood that how counselling and therapy is being given to
person effectively and ain appropriate manner. The care is being taken of the person which in
this case is Daisy so that she gets full care as per her guidance and after discussing with her.
There are different perspectives which are involved in person-centred care and approach.
Some major perspectives are – ethical, social, legal, organizational and professional.
Ethical perspective mentions aspects as to how person’s cultural traditions, family situations,
values and lifestyle are concerned under this aspect. With the help of ethical values, the person’s
values and beliefs are known and being addressed at large scale of how the care is to be provided
by discussing with the person (Berntsen Dalbakk and et.al., 2019).
Social perspectives defines that what are the aspects of how effectively and in appropriate
manner the social care is being provided to patient. For this, there is Health and Social Care Act
2008 which addresses that The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities)

Jefferies, 2018). In future, I will be able to help the other people who are seeking the person-
centred care to recover from there pain and distress which they face. This professional practice
helps in demonstrating that the person-centred care is being provided to the person who are
engaged in taking the services and care. With the help of implemented changes which are
undertaken helps in demonstrating that with the help of these changes in the behaviour and
understanding, there will be open ways for how the care concerns are provided to the person who
need scare and is suffering from any mental distress such as the situation of Daisy.
Also, with the help of this action plan which has been undertaken for the aspects of
improving the person cemented care so that Daisy does not faces nay problem as I contribute and
