INTRODUCTION
Personal development refers to activities which helps in improving the skills and abilities
and developing potential talent. It helps in providing a plan on basis of which development is
done and to achieve goals and objectives (Morrow, 2018). It is necessary to identify personal
goals so that accordingly career path is set and decided. Moreover, the goals of formed on basis
of needs such as short, long and medium. With that, it becomes easy to attain them in effective
way. these goals differ on basis of needs of people. they are either related to life or work related
goals.

will discuss about value of short, medium and long term goals along with some examples in it. at

growth. It allows in learning and gaining of skills and knowledge in effective way. Personal
development is process to enhance basic skills and knowledge. It covers areas of talent which
helps in facilitating employability and in fulfilling of dreams and desires (Personal development,
2016). It is a life long process that allows people to access their skills and abilities. they are able
to achieve goals which are being set. However, personal development is essential as it helps in
fulfilling Maslow needs. Besides that, there are various ways of managing personal development.
it includes developing vision, PDP, review of personal goals etc. (Lauring, Guttormsen, and
McNulty, 2019)
In similar way, professional development is concept of improving skill and knowledge
related to specific profession. It is continuous education, learning and training of individual in
respective career. Generally, main purpose of professional development is to cope up with
current trends of skills and knowledge which helps in attaining goals and objectives. this is also a
life long process but is limited to particular career. by attaining professional goals it person can
grow in his or her career. But in this development differs on basis of profession of individual.
There are various methods of improving professional development like doing SWOT analysis,
development of PDP, etc.

Thus, these both concepts are related to development of SMART objectives as it enables in
achieving of goals and objectives (Carbonie, Guo and Cahalane, 2018). through professional
development personal goals can be attained. similarly, personal goals are achieved with

included in it. A PDP is developed by identifying weak area and what improvement is required

achieving long term goals. Along with that, the goals helps in analysing how much we have
