INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is the process in which an individual learn various
skills and behaviour which help him in attaining goals and objectives which he has desired for.
Through it he or she can update his or her knowledge and will use that learning in his day to day
life. Organisation carry different tasks to update learning of their employees as they know that it
will yield better results. It is the procedure in which someone increase their personal abilities
with the help of education and training opportunities in the workplace, outside the firm or by
watching someone else who are doing the same thing (Avalos, 2011). A person equipped with
the some sort of skills and knowledge will feel confident and will also boost his moral. Personal
and professional development plays a vital role in health and social care setting. In this report a
brief will be given on this and with the self evaluation a holistic development plan will be
developed by keeping short and long goals and objectives in mind.
TASK 1
1.1 Comparison of personal values and principles with the principles of support for working in
health and social care.
In have choose health and social care fields and I am just at the starting phase of my
career. I know I posses some values and principles and that are some negative and positive.
These all things highly impact the health and social care. I will try to work hard and will give my
efforts so that I can easily improve my skills as health and social worker. I am employed in small
care center which is of small size (Bauer, 2010). My role is managerial support and till now I
have performed 200 hours of service. Personal values briefs about the choices of individuals.
These beliefs are shaped from the culture which is followed by a person. The concept of equality
and love for the humans are the two things which has brought principles of support for working
in health and social care field.
Individual Reflection
Personal Values possessed by me. Effect of the values on principles of support
in Health and Social Care.
I am vegetarian and does not consume any
kind of meat.
In the care center most of the people are non
vegetarian so by keeping my duty in mind, I

don't feel same in serving non vegetarian food
to the patients and individuals.
Before giving any suggestions I prefer
understanding all the aspects of the field.
At the care center a lot of patients comes
everyday so they want someone who can listen
to their issues and guide them what to do. This
boosts their moral support.
I always believed in doing different activities
according to the priority and sequences.
To cater more patients and give customer
satisfaction all the individuals are attended on
the priority basis. This also helps in proper
management.
I have always believed in helping others as
everyone in the world need a support system at
some point of time.
The individuals coming in the health care
center needs care and support.
1.2 Impact of personal culture and experience when supporting service user.
A person who is part of the health and social care might follow some culture and has
some experience on a particular thing and this highly impact his working in this sector. There are
lots of things which can be added in this some of them are like education level, family life,
ethnicity and the employment he is indulged in influence this sector (Brody and Hadar, 2011).
Personal Culture and Experience Impact on the role as a health care
professional
It had been not too much time since than I have
started working here.
This might act as negative point because I am
not much aware about the various things in this
sector. So whatever I do I make it sure that a
expert is there to guide me.
I was school captain for my college's rugby
team. This has developed leadership qualities
in me.
Such thing will assist me in growing myself at
professional level as I will get a platform to
show my leadership skills. The other advantage
of this is that I will able to work more

efficiently (Desimone, 2011)
I hold a degree in the medical diploma. This would be a great advantage at my
professional level as I will not find it difficult
to understand new technical terms and
concepts.
1.3 Impact of new developments and changes on work in health and social care.
The new changes and developments in different areas can directly or indirectly can
impact the person who is part of health and social care sector. There can be developments in
legislations, policies, research, values and principles. Laws and acts like Sex Discrimination Act
1975, Carer (Recognition and Services) Act 1995, Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000,
Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004, Disabled Persons Act 1986, Human Rights Act 1980,
Work and Families Act 2006 and etc. are some of the laws which can impact my role at the
professional level. No staff can discriminate any patient or individual on the basis of their sex.
With these development a care worker becomes responsible towards its duties and it also gives
the rights to the clients that they can avail full quality care (Lago, 2010). With this health and
social care setting gets newer methods of treating the patients.
TASK 2
For the health and social care sector personal development is important because it
requires certain skills and abilities. Everyone has different learning style, it can be feeling
(concrete), feeling and watching (diverging), feeling and doing (accommodating). On the other
hand it can be just watching (reflective observation), thinking and watching (thinking and
watching) or absolute thinking (abstract conceptualization).
Strengths (2.1) Weaknesses (4.2)
Own Skills:
IT Skill: This skill have brought a tremendous
change in the health and social care
management. For a social care worker it is a

visits a lots of people, so things need to be
done in proper manner with time. As I lack in

must skill which needs to be learned if he has
to grow in his career. Most of the information
at the health and social care centers are stored
in computers so knowledge of the data base
software gives a great advantage.
Presentation Skill: I am very good at making
people understand about various things
because I am very much clear about the
concepts and from what kind of language
things can be improved.
Own learning Styles
I prefer to learn from all the learning methods
called as linguistic mode which include
watching, listening, writing and reading.
I want to learn how to give better services to
the service user and this I am learning through
this mode only in which assimilating and
accommodating through it I can read, watch,
feel and think what I am doing.
managing time I attend a clients for longer
period of time and with this I am unable to
deliver quality services in efficient manner
(Maskit, 2011).
Language Skills: Although I am well aware
from the English language and able to speck
fluently in this but this is not serving the
purpose of organisation. They wants to serve
or give their services to a larger number of
people so for that I have to participate in the
language classes so that I can learn more
language. This will help me to understand non
English speaking people.
No practical learning: Whatever styles are
adopted by me does not including anything
which could help me learn things in more
practical way. I need to give more emphasis on
learning anything practically and this will help
me in better way.
Opportunities (2.2) Threats (4.2)

misshapen occurs.
There can be improvement in Human
Resource Management and for this 3
months time can be taken. The basic
aim is to manage human resources
available in the care center.
Medium Term Goals
With the better decision making
abilities and skills things can be
improved at wider level. For that a one
year long plan can be implemented and
with this right decisions can be taken.
Time management skills can give me
great advantage as this will bring more
productivity. For this a short period
time of 4 months can be considered.
For this the priority should be set and
all the important tasks should be done
first (Moon, 2013). This will increase
the efficiency and at the same time
more clients problem will be resolved.
Longer Term Goals
More knowledge can be crabbed on
law, legislation and acts and this can be
implemented with the period of 5 years.
This way I will able to deal with the
complaints and update the rules.
I have to look for the opportunities to
learn new languages with the period of
2 years. This will help me in gaining
competitive advantage over my
that these things does not impact me in wider
context (McNiff, 2010). My organisation has
believed in me while hiring me and always
wanted me to perform well. There might be
something which can impact me in negative
and this will also bring negative results to the
organisation also.
Whatever things or concepts which has been
learned by me can get outdated with change in
the environment of health and social care. A
suggestion should be given to the organisation
that whatever changes are coming should be
implied to the care center but before that all the
staff should be notified for that.

colleagues. I will be an idol care
worker if I learn new languages
because this will let me the needs and
sufferings of the people.
2.3 Progress against the plan according to the requirements of a health and social care.
The progress of the personal development program can be monitored through outcome
and job performance. If I have included leadership skills as personal development plan then it
could be inspected through record keeping skills, recording the data related to clients and
handling new strategies in recent time and how I am managing people (Mwalongo, 2011). I need
to take feedback from people who are working under me and ask them about what changes they
are experiencing. Does they are able to deliver what they has been asked for. When monitored
the language and communication skills the patients data can be analysed. They can see whether
the number of patients coming to the health care center has increased or not. Other than this
progress can be monitored by performance appraisal.
2.4 Evaluation of the effectiveness of the development plan to own development.
The professional development plan which I made is very important for me. I have added
decision making, time management and language skills. With the decision making I was able to
take effectrive decision and helped in allocating wards to various clients coming to the center. A
situation arised where a person health condition was going down after the checking I came to
know that he is not taking food so I helped him in making his food chart. With the language
skills I came to know what patients normally desires (Nicholls, 2014). Now more non-English
speaking patients pay their visits to the health care center because they know this place will
deliver them better services.
4.1 Effectiveness of personal contribution when working with others.
It is observed that a work can be done with more efficiently and an organisation can yield
better results if they things are done in team work. This will bring more productivity and the
health and social care centers will able to cater more number of clients. So for that every
individual so the team has to contribute and needs to set a coordination with each other. I make
sure that on the workplace I give important details to my team mates and make them aware about
6

the operations which are appropriate. For effectiveness of the decision I behave in way that it
encourage then to do more work. Whatever speech I am giving is in simple language so that all
the staff can understand it (Olsen, 2015). Other than this my body language, gestures, written and
verbal communications are always polite. As I have basic computer skills so I am able to record
the data of the employees and clients. Whatever improvement I think can be made I suggest
ideas, views and other appropriate information with the team members. I encourage other
members to share their suggestion in-front of all the team members and leader. With all this a
suitable environment has been created by at the social care center.
TASK 3
3.1 Nature of various professional relationships in health and social care setting.
Professional relationship is the procedure with the help of which workers establish a
relationship with various people like users, clients family, friends, team mates and with the other
person who are in the same sector. All the relationship have some kind of nature which are as
follows:-
Relationship with clients: All the users should be treated fairly and no discrimination
should be done. The service providers should assist them in improving their conditions at all
level. The social workers and doctors of any healthcare center should ensure users privacy. The
information of those clients should not be disclosed to anyone (Reeves, 2012).
Relationship with the co-workers: There should be a coordination with the staff this
will ensure that the results will be towards positive sides. The healthcare workers will able to
share their views with the other members freely without any hesitation. All of them have to
respect culture of each other and should try to take knowledge from others.
All these will make the care center a place where people can feel safe and secure.
3.2 Personal effectiveness in promoting and supporting the rights of people.
I have a crucial role in the social care center as I have to take care of the interests of the
individual's choice, ability and to protect the rights of users. For this I have to implement new
plans.
By treating all the clients equal and making sure that they does not face any
discrimination at the center and this will protect their rights. The privacy has to be maintained of

the users and at the same time new suggestions from the carers has to be respected. I will make
sure that everyone gets a equal opportunities and their culture and values should be respected.
I will try my best to maintain the quality of services so that the clients gets satisfied and
the carers get confident in whatever they are doing (Shortland, 2010). For that I will try to work
with full dedication and with honesty. All the guidelines need to be given with proper message to
the clients and subordinates. By setting a procedure where any company from the users and
employees can be addressed as quick as possible. I will ask their experience at the healthcare and
social care center and this will help us to improve the services.
3.3 Ways to solve issues occurred in professional relationship.
At the work place a lot of issues can arise which can hamper the professional relationship
with different people. These issues can be risk, conflicts, abuse, laws, values of others. There
might be the situation where the healthcare professional are unable to take right decision due to
ethical dilemma. Those clients who are not suffering from any kind of mental illness are able to
decide to choose life or not (Stenberg, 2010). It is the duty of healthcare worker to take care of
the patients health but a time is there when he is given the command to go with the clients wish.
Another issue which can arise is about the user's confidentiality and disclosure of its
information. It may happen that a client might had faced abused from the other carer then he
confess to me about it. So I will be in dilemma whether to out this point to the authority of not as
I was told not to disclose this thing (Van Driel and Berry, 2012). But as my duty is to protect
clients from any harassment and abuse it is necessary that the higher authority should be aware
about this.
4.4 Personal contribution to the collective of a team.
Almost every person can contribute in the team work and can influence the effectiveness
in a big manner and this can be done through playing their roles in better manner. To improve
the working at the place I will share my thoughts and suggestions with my colleagues. Whatever
clients are coming to the center will be guided about their wards by me. I will also help my co-
workers whenever they will need help. I will show my full dedication in the work and will
respect all my seniors (Stenfors-Hayes and et. al., 2010). Anyone in the team will be given equal
opportunities. I will make sure that all the team members are well aware about their roles and
responsibilities. I will take my full responsibility if something goes wrong with the plan and at
8

the same time with good communication skills all things will be managed. By this I can
contribute in team effectiveness.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above report, it has been concluded that I can able to improve my
personal and professional skills which are helpful for me to increase my long term learning.
Through conducting SWOT analyses I can easily evaluate my strengths and weaknesses which
are used in my professional life. This process is able to improve my skill, knowledge and
experience. There are different types of learning styles which are able to improve my long term
leaning.
