STATEMENT OF PURPOSE FOR ADVANCED STANDING DENTAL PROGRAM
The childhood memories myself accompanying my father for a walks and spending hours
watching him feed the birds while the birds waited patiently for his provision have never escaped
my mind. He was a loving person who used to help the needy get to the hospital for treatment.
His selfless actions were very impressive to the extent that I easily picked interest in a hospital
environment with a specific goal of being a doctor so that I could help the patients brought by
my father to the facility. Coincidentally during the time I was accompanying my father, I broke
my teeth, my father took me to the doctor's office where I received medical attention and got
relieved from pain, an incidence that fuelled my professional desires of dentistry.
While I was still studying in India, I used to make a routine stopover at the cafeteria for breakfast
before attending my clinical posting (3rd Year BDS). The server who used to attend to me had
some missing teeth. It took me multiple attempts to convince him to get to the dental school so
that I could make dentures to restore his teeth.
I volunteered in clinical outreach programs with dedication and excitement, the programs
included, filling teeth, extractions, and educating people on improving overall health. The
programs educated the poor people on the correct ways of tooth brushing and importance of
regular check-ups. While partaking in the programs, I realized fear and anxiety are the major
drawbacks that prevents patients from visiting the dental clinics. It occurred to me that the social
skills such as empathetic behavior and good communication skills could have a tremendous
impact on improving the overall dental health of a community. These define the core values of

dentistry, maintaining lifelong relationships with the patients and giving them a positive
experience, which changes their life.
I am applying for the advanced standing dental program leading to the DDS program in the
USA. Studying here would give me a chance to be a global dentist. I am a holder of a certificate
in Bachelor of Dental Surgery, having learned from professional teachers who emphasized on
quality dental treatment and healthcare services.
I have been in close contact with my teachers from dental school even upon graduation. Thanks
to this, was my teacher, Head of Pediatric Dentistry, advised me to pursue my Masters in Dental
Surgery. This was upon realizing my love for children especially the ones with special health
care needs. During my masters, I focused on improving my skills within the confines of the
pieces of advice provided by my teachers. It was during this period that I conducted research on
the space maintainers, a study that took 9 months to be accomplished. One of the challenging
cases I met was delivering a partial denture to a patient with ectodermal dysplasia. Experiences
like these encouraged me to move forward in dentistry. After that, I got married and was blessed
to have a wife who has been with me throughout my life.
Upon the completion of my masters’ degree, I joined as a faculty at Adesh Dental College where
I worked constantly as a Consultant Pediatric dentist in improving the health of my patients.
Moreover, as a faculty, I had an opportunity to mentor students in our dental school. This has
furthered my clinical acumen and enriched my experience. During these years, I served in the
underprivileged sections of the society and learned how to be kind, polite and comforting to the
patients. I am looking forward to volunteering at these events to help the community and country

in general. My Interpersonal skills, ethics, and communication skills have helped me in building
friendly relationships with my patients.
My family migrated to Canada in 2018 as a permanent resident. I quickly considered continuing
to work as a dentist, following which I started applying for dentistry opportunities. I believe that
no matter what you study or achieve there is something new to learn to adapt to the changing
times. I would like to continue my dental education and learn the best of clinical techniques with
the latest innovations in this excellent field. My immediate goal is to be an associate dentist in
the USA with the long- term goal of joining you as an adjunct faculty where I can put my skills
and knowledge to impart dental education on a larger platform aimed at creating future leaders
and dentists.
I hope to open my dental practice where I can provide specialized dental treatment regardless of
the socioeconomic status or income level with a commitment to serve people who need my help
the most.
It would be an honour to attend your esteemed university, and I am a focused and
determined person who can maintain balances between studies and family life. My previous
dental education and experience in India would be an impetus for completing my DDS in the
United States. I consider myself lucky to have a tremendous ability to impact the community.
Dentistry is the passion I have lived for as it has allowed me to recognize the humanity in every
patient I treat and I would thank you for my consideration into your program.
