INTRODUCTION
Personal development planning means when someone plans for herself or himself. It is
planned so that growth can facilitate. When someone has particular goal or if they want to
achieve ambition then personal plan is must. Personal development planning also help to develop
or brush the skills. Personal plans can be related to career, self improvements, relationship,
particular objectives etc. This study will discuss the concepts of personal and professional
development. Understanding value of short term goals with examples, value of medium term
goals with examples and value of long-term-goals with examples. Discussion of value of
personal development plan using the identified goals.
MAIN BODY
1 Concept of personal and professional development
Personal development:
Personal development is the continuous process. It is the approach in which individual build their
skills and develop qualities considering their goals and dreams in the life which they want to
achieve by maximizing the potential. Personal development builds the human capital, increase
the quality of life and contribute in the aspirations. Personal development can be formal or
informal as well. It is also done to increase the wealth, self-esteem, talent, spiritual development
etc. personal development facilitated happiness in the life of individual. It also brings confidence
among them. If under personal development you learn some skills then automatically a person's
confidence level will increase. Personal development gives clarity for the future. It makes an
individual understand that where they want to go in the future. It also helps to know the hidden
talent from which the individual was unaware before. It increases the satisfaction level and
motivation. Personal development helps in the growth which increases the productivity. It
provides a vision to the person (Hildebrand, 2018). Personal development helps in correcting
every bad habit in the individual. He or she will crave for building new skills. Personal
development also helpful in gaining respect in the society.
Professional development:
Professional development is the development related to work. Professional development is made
by providing resources, tools or training to the workforce. Training help the staff to enhance their
skills and also know their job role and learn this thing which will help him in doing that job.
Professional development help to improve the skill to meet the needs of the students. Its

approaches are review case studies, coaching, technical assistance etc. it helps in the advance
professional learning. Improve professional knowledge, building confidence, self-esteem etc. it
develops the analytical skills which is necessary to analyse the performance data of students.
Learning new skills improve the way of teaching and as a result increase the students
performance. Helps to acquire leadership skills. Proper professional development will help the
individual in balancing personal and professional life. It open career opportunities and people
will start respecting you more (Gustafsson and et.al., 2019). Professional development in the
informal learning which give idea to build strong professional life. It is also the continuous
process or ongoing process.
2 Value of short term goals with three examples
Short term goals:
Short term goals are those which lasts for week or few months. It takes maximum few months to
achieve the short term goals. It gives short term satisfaction. Short term goals provide solution to
the short term problems. Short term opens the path for the long term goals. Short term goals
gives the sense of achievability. It also gives short term motivation. If short-term goals are
achieved timely then the individual will remain motivated for the long time. It gives confidence
in life. If a person has achieved short term goals then he or she will get the confidence to achieve
the long term goals.
Benefits of short term goals:
Achievement of the short term goals help in increasing the self-confidence. Individual
will get rid of its fear and become more focused towards the future goals.
Short term goals or any goals are related to future only so fulfilling these goals help to
face other future challenges in the proper way.
Short-term goals is the foundation for long-term-goal. As it said it by taking small steps
will help to achieve the big objective in life (Höchli, Brügger and Messner, 2018).
Short term goals shows the clear path of success.
My short term goals are:
I will improve my grades. I will work harder so that when my assessment comes I can perform
better. For that I have to make strong connections with my mentor so that she can help me in
planning time table in the effective, or she can even help if I face problem in any of the topic.

Second short-term goal is I want to learn something new. Learning new will build my personality
and also increase confidence in me and add in my personal qualities. As I believe that a person
should always have hunger to learn something new or innovative.
Third short-term goal is I want to improve my command over grammar. I am making mistakes in
grammar. I want to learn propositions, objectives etc. so that I do not make any grammatical
mistakes in the future. I have to achieve this before my assessment so that this time my marks
will not deduct in grammatical mistakes.
3 Value of medium term goals with three examples
Medium term goals:
Medium term goals are those goals which be for few months or for within 5 years. After
someone gets the benefit from the short-term goals then, or she takes chance on making medium-
term goals. Medium term goals take more time to achieve as compare to short-term goals. For
achieving the medium term goal an individual have to do harder work as it lasts for longer time
then short-term goal. Everyone is having mid term goals in their life. When you achieve the mid
term goal then you are more confident and get motivated towards long term goals. Mid term
goals gives the experience that how will be the long term goals. Basically it is the practice for
long term goal because long term goals comes with a more risk than mid term goals.
Benefits of medium term goals:
If mid term goals are achieved earlier then the imagination the will give immense
satisfaction and increase positivity.
Achievement of mid term goal will open the door for long term goals as well.
Mid term goals consume less time as compare to long term goals and also require less
efforts than long term.
My medium term goals are:
I want to learn German. For that I will join German learning classes. Within 5 months I will learn
it. I want to learn German language because I saw good future and growth in my career if I will
learn this language. By learning this language it will develop my skills.
Second mid term goal is I want to take admission in the science university for that I have to fight
the entrance exam and I have to prepare early for that. If one year prior I will start preparing then
I will clear that exam and can take admission.

My third mid term goal is I want to pay for my education loan so for that It will take 3-4 years
(Greco and Kraimer, 2020). I have to plan accordingly that after joining the company how much
I have spent and save so that I can pay my complete loan.
4 Value of long term goals with three examples
Long-term-goals
Long-term-goal are the future oriented goals. It will take three or more years to accomplish. This
goal will give immense satisfaction and success in the life (Salter and Rhodes, 2018). It will
chance the personality of the individual make him or her stronger from inside and also increase
the knowledge of that person. For achieving the long-term-goal it requires much harder work as
compare to the small or mid term goals. Long-term-goal are generally measured in years only. It
brings the successful career. It requires proper planning and time. It is not something which is
acquired within some weeks.
Benefits of long term goals:
Long-term-goals brings a discipline in the life. Once it is planned then person will not
stop till it will achieve. It will help the person to learn that how to survive in difficult
situation as it the long time thing.
This will give the immense success and give the purpose to the life.
My long term goals are:
I want to get my degree with the gold medal. I want to top the university. It will improve my
resume and create good impact of me in the eyes of the company (Khan). I will also get the
complete knowledge of my degree if I will top the college. Knowledge will help me to do my job
by making fewer mistakes.
My second long goal is I want to plan my retire early. I believe that If I will work hard in my
early age then I can plan my retire early because I don't want to work after 50 years rather I want
to travel only after that.
Third long term goal is I want to become mentor. I like to mentor and I want to develop
mentoring skills in myself.
5 Value of personal development plan and constructing with identified goals
Personal development plan:
Personal development planning is the practice to improve the skills. For effective personal
development individual have to build some skills and for that he or she have to plan (Earley,

opportunities. Personal development will help to learn new, innovative and creative skills.
Development helps and individual to fight with their competitors. Personal development plan
will help to reach towards your ambition. Planning regarding goals is the first step towards your
goals.
Importance of Personal development plan:
It will help in planning the career well and also help in building the skills. It will help in
learning something new and achieving the heights.
Personal development plan will give steps for the goal achievement. It will help in the
career progression.
It will increase the dedication and learning ability. It is important because if the person
will fail in achieving the goal then also he or she will gain knowledge and experience
which will be helpful in the self-improvement (Rimmer, 2018).
Personal development plan will help to figure out success. This will motivate the person
to work hard.
Personal development help the student to develop skills which will be helpful in their
employment.

From this report it is concluded that personal and professional development are needed in
an individual life. Short-term goals are there to fulfil short term needs, ranges from few weeks to
months, medium or mid term goals will help in achieving medium-term want, ranging from few
months to years and long term goal will help to achieve long term want, ranging from more than
3 years. Personal development plan is very necessary. It will define the success of the person. It
is the up gradation in the personality. It enhances the learning ability.
