The present report is based on personality development planning and its role in an
individual’s life in identifying and setting goals and objectives towards their growth and
development in professional career or even career in one’s university. There no denying the
fact that professional development can be ensured and career development path can be
adopted only when an individual’s personality supports (Mitina, 2019). Personality support
can be obtained if one has learnt enough skills and knowledge that led to the overall
personality development and accordingly professional development of an individual. So, in
this report value of goals of an individual personality which are having different time horizon
ranging from short to medium to long term has been explained and at last value of personality
development plan that is creates in one’s life and render many personality and professional
development has been explained. First of all an explanation of personality and professional
development will be done.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
Personality development can be obtained and ensure through those activities which are meant
for developing an individual’s abilities, skills and knowledge, potentiality and overall
improvement in the quality of life. It is not a one-time activity rather it involves lifelong
process and procedures which includes setting up of time to time objectives and goals and
ensuring that the same should be achieved within a specified time frame in order to enhance
individual’s potentiality (Beijaard and Meijer, 2017). There are five areas that need to be
considered while evaluating an individual’s personality such as mental, physical, social,
emotional and spiritual. Some points that need to be considered by an individual who is
striving for personality development that is, time management ability, level of emotional
intelligence, active listening, developing a positive mindset, showing resilience in a cultivate
manner, building new learning habits and improving ability to speak in a public place. These
all skills, knowledge, abilities and habits if gets included in an individual’s personality than it
leads to overall development of personality.
On the other hand, professional development is another important concept which
involves students learning process and procedures towards development of skills and
knowledge which aids in their career development and setting up better future by satisfying
needs in a desired manner (Mitina, 2019). It revolves around individual’s learning and ability
earning more and more through better professional career. Professional development can be

ensured through obtaining quality and higher level training to learn more professional skills,
obtaining degree certification and an education that leads to provision of better opportunities
in career. It involves those resources and tools or sessions of training that aids in further
improvement in the knowledge of different subject matter or areas. The aims of personal
development is to learn new things and skills to grow one’s personality in order to secure
higher growth in professional career which ultimately leads to professional development in an
individual’s life.
3. Description and discussion of the value of short term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Short term goals can be defined as something that is needed to be achieved by an individual
in the very near future or very short time period is available for their achievement. It is
restricted largely to the period of one year and not more during which the attainment of these
goals become necessary (Carey and et.al., 2020). In other words something that is needed to
be accomplish soon is included in the category of short term goals. Short term goals often lay
down a defined and clear path for an individual’s success which makes it easier to lay
emphasize on one things or aspect at a time. Such a special focus over the achievement of a
near goals allows not just for higher level of motivation but also leads to higher level of
productivity of an individual with a desire to accomplish such short duration goals. Short
term goal setting helps in professional aspirations achievement and thus leads to the
enhancement of job satisfaction as a whole. Something greater with a strong base can be
achieved through setting short term goal. In fact, short terms goals are generally meant for
achieving some long term goals. Successful achievement of short term goals allows for or
aids in the accomplishment of long term goals (Uetake and Yang, 2017). When long term
goals are split into various parts that needs to be achieve in various stages or steps, then the
same can be possible through meeting short term goals and objectives and thus allows for
meeting long term goals and reaching at a top in a step by step manner. And closeness to the
long term goals can be ensured through successful accomplishment of short term goals.
Personality development goals can also be short duration and by setting short term goals
only, one can reach at a desired level by learning new knowledge and skills which
subsequently helps in attaining professional or career goals and thus along with personality
development, professional development can also be attained and ensured. So, it can be said

that short term goals keeps an individual more focused and thus leads to an avoidance of any
kind of distraction during the process of attaining the same.
There are certain example of short term goals at a personal level that has been listed below:
Reading a book in the duration of one week of any particular subject matter to
enhance the knowledge in that particular field.
Obtaining a particular certification by accomplishing associated degree course within
the duration of next six months.
Changing a job for getting higher level job in the upcoming twelve months.
4. Description and discussion of the value of medium
term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Duration required to achieve medium term goals falls between two months and or three to
five years which means that the point of achievement of such goals lies between the short
term goals and long term goals. It also allows of remaining highly motivated towards the
attainment of the goals within the duration prescribed by accomplishing the tasks required
and taking follow up steps on a regular basis is quite necessary. Such medium terms goals are
valuable in the sense that it facilitated the achievement of both long term goals and short term
goals (Niehaus and Wegener, 2019). It is important also in the sense that it bridges the gap
between the long term goals and short term goals. It allows for achieving significant success
or progress within an optimum level of time interval. Many medium term goals can be set up
by an individual throughout his life. Appropriate tracking of the accomplishment of the goals
can be established for the medium term goals. Medium term goals ensures alignment with the
long term goals and thus facilitate closeness of one step each time a medium term goals is
achieve. All the steps involved in the achievement of the long term goals are regarded as a
medium term goals and through these steps which acts as a ladder needed to be climb for the
achievement of long term goals (Rahnev and et.al., 2021). Timely checking of status is
possible in medium term goals and allows for knowing that whether one is heading towards
its long term goals or not, or is there any need of making changes in the policies or plan to
ensure better attainment of goals.
Some of the examples of medium term goals at an individual’s personal level are as follows:
Paying off a certain portion of the loan within a duration of two years.
Setting a target for accumulating funds at a certain level depending upon an
individual’s financial situation.

At my second birthday from this year, I will buy a new car worth $500000.
5. Description and discussion of the value of long term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Long term took much more time to realize the final results of what one desires to achieve. If
one is not capable to achieve their short term and medium term goals then it became difficult
to attain long term goals. A significant effort, time and resources are required to meet long
term goals. The duration of such goals go beyond five years and there is no upper limit for
the duration of long term goals achievement. Such goals are of much higher in terms of
adding value to the quality of life one leads (Cernev and Fenner, 2020). The goals are deemed
to be achieved when all the stages or steps created to be attained with certain short term and
medium term are accomplished, so it the final outcome of all the hard work perform during
number of short term and medium term goals attainment towards the achievement of long
term goals. These goals require long term establishment of focus over the goals and
objectives, thus helps in shaping the direction for one’s life and career accordingly. And such
long term focus definitely leads to both personal and professional development of an
individual. Achievement of long term goals need keeping constantly working towards a
certain goal or direction (Suizzo, Tedford and McManus, 2019). Long term goals if achieved
then provide positive returns for a very long period or throughout the life of an individual.
Some of the examples of long term goals that meant for personality and professional
development of an individual are as follows:
Becoming a manager or director in a top MNC of the region.
In next five years, I am to become a responsible and better parent by spending quality
time with my family, playing with kids and taking my family on trip four time in a
year.
Within five years, I have planned to buy a new house and get shifted to another region
for setting my career there.

A PDP or Personality Development Plan is a prepared in a form of proforma or statement,
which outlines personal skills already possessed or any other skills that is required to be
achieved by an individual towards improving their quality of life and ensuring their personal
growth and development along with professional growth and development. It is an action
plan created on the basis of personal knowingness in order to list out skills that are currently
present and skills that are needed to be learnt for in the near future in order to achieve
personal development for setting up career and its development accordingly (Sharma, 2019).
Desires and dreams can be fulfilled with a greater ease if such a self-assessment would be
undertaken within regular intervals of time. The value that personal development creates and
provide to an individual is that it establishes a vision and a clear idea about the achievement
of this vision and thus facilitated better attainment of goals and objectives of all terms that is
whether it is long term, medium term or short term goals. It provides in making better
decision and facilitated a clear cut path for the learning of new skills and knowledge in order
to ensure growth and development of an individual’s personality either for their educational
or professional commitments to have a better career in an upcoming future (Ojeme, 2020). If
this personality development plan is prepared with a great consciousness then the same will
ensure and increases the chances success by reducing the risks of uncertain things which can
destroy and responsible for making things happen wrong.
7.0 Conclusion
From the above report, it has been concluded that both personal and professional
development goes hand in hand. The concept of personality development is a very crucial in
an individual’s life contributing towards the quality of life one lead in a great way. An
appropriate assessment of skills and preparing goals for the achievement of the same by
learning new skills where one is lacking is very important in ensuring both personal and
professional growth and development.
