INTRODUCTION
Personal development consider as a life long and ongoing process that help to assess the
essential and required qualities that are mandatory for each and every individual to perform a
particular job. With the help of appropriate skills and qualities, individual can set goals and
targets and also accomplish their personal and professional development goals (Alvarez and
Schultz, 2019). Individual can develop their personal and professional potential capabilities that
are helpful to improve the living standard and career growth. The main purpose of this report is
to focus on the personal and professional development of the individual and identify the value of
short , medium and long term goals so that individual and develop their skills and capabilities
according to these goals. Lastly, this report also will discuss about the personal development plan
and identify the specific goals.
MAIN BODY
Personal and Professional Development
Personal and professional development is prominent because it is helpful to analyse the
personal competencies of every individual which will help to identify the current and required
skills and knowledge for their personal and professional growth. Personal development aid in
self actualisation and self assessment so that individual can analyse the those skills which they
have and those skills that they wants to learn. There are various benefits of personal and
professional development such as individual received more balanced life, decrease stress level,
increase self confidence, improve quality of life, good health, enhance job performance, increase
roles and responsibilities etc. so that individual can get more career opportunities and they can
also helpful to get the right job in which individual can show their full interest and give their best
contribution. Through professional development, individual can learn and educate themselves in
the interested job role and filed so that individual and take appropriate degree and certificate
which will help to get a dream job (Carey, et. al., 2020). It is a fact that every job need a various
kinds of skills and so that it is necessary to identify those skills and try to improve them so that
individual will obtain their personal and professional development goals effectively.
Value of Short-term Goals
Short-term goals help to determine the clear path of success so that individual can
achieve it in a better way. The main motive of this goal is to obtain particular task within 12

months or less than 12 months. Individual set this goal so that it can be obtain as soon as
possible. Short-term goals lead the success of long term goals. Through small goals, individual
can easily target long term goals. Mostly I set short term goal so that I can smoothly reach the
long term target because small tasks are easily to complete and step by step I can prepare myself
to achieve the long one task. With full dedication, I can easily maintain all the requirement which
are necessary to complete the short-term goals .(Chaikovska, 2018). I need to show my strong
determination to complete short-term goals so that I can ready myself for the long term goals.
There are so many short-term goal which I set and I need to work on it. There are many factors
which depicts the value of short-term goals which are explained below - Properly Planned – It is a facts that small goals are very well planned and organised
because it take less time so that individual can obtain it without any burden. This goal is
short time period so that it is helpful to manage the authenticity so that individual can
easily consider it to complete within a proper given deadlines. This goals follow proper
structure so that individual can effectively accomplish it. Easily Measurable – Short-term goal are easily measurable and also helpful to identify
that how people will reach to obtain these goals. Individual measure all the requirement
and necessities and then prepare a action plan which will help to accomplish these goals.
Effectively Achievable - These goals are effectively achievable , if each and every
individual can work harder and smarter and also determine all the appropriate activities
and plans which will lead to achieve these goals.
Personal Examples
The description of my short-term goals are given below-
1. Time Management - I want to learn time management skills so that I can easily manage my
time according to my work. With proper time management I can save some time and will lean
how to play guitar.
2. Early Riser - I want to wake up early in the morning which will help me in time management
and I will also go for the morning walk and do some meditation which will give me mental peace
(Floor, 2017).
3. Work- Life Balance – This is also a most demanded short term goal of mine because I found
that I am not able to manage my work- life balance properly so I need to lean how I can balance
of work life.

Value of Medium-term Goals
These goals are take bit longer time to complete and it could be accomplish by next 2
weeks, 2 months and more than 12 months. These goals required full determination because it
can take more than short-term goals. Medium term goals required proper planning so that
individual and easily implement it. I can prepare a work plan so that I can take appropriate steps
to accomplish these types of goals. With the help of medium team goals I will effectively make
accomplish the long term goals. To accomplish the medium term goals there are some factors
which are essential to consider. The explanation of these factors are as follows- Work Planning – To obtain the medium term goals, it is prominent to prepare work
planning. To build the effective work plan, there are various steps which need to follow
such as identify the specific goal , point out required resources, set time according to the
goal, analyse risk and accountability (Hughes, 2018). Action Plan – To complete the goal in a effective manner, there is a need to prepare a
specific action plan so that individual can obtain it effectively. There are few steps which
need to consider for the effective action plan such as write down goal, decide deadline,
prepare your mindset, identify required skills, work properly, motivate yourself with
reward. Controlling – This is also an important factor which is helpful to complete the journey of
medium term goal because it will take lots of courage to complete these goals. When
individual will complete these goals than he or she can identify their capabilities and
abilities to target long term goals. Through medium term goals I can easily analyse and
judge myself that I am capable to set the long term goal or not. With the help of
controlling factor, I will control myself from many distractions and and also give my best
to follow work and action plan properly (Johnson and Marlow, 2017).
Time Bound – To complete the goal on time, it is necessary to set a time limitation so
that individual can easily get their goal. Time bound is useful mandatory because most of
the people lost their direction toward their goals because they feel bore so that it is crucial
to set time and continuously remind themselves why it is important to achieve this goal.
Personal Examples
There are few medium term goal which I consider. The explanation of these goals are
given below-

1. Effective communication Skills – I noticed that my communication skill is not that much
effective so that I need to develop which will help me to engage with the more people and I will
create good social network.
2. Go on Dream Trip – I have a wish to go on my dream trip in this year. Due to some
uncertainty of pandemic I preferred to stay at home rather then visit. There are many places
which I have wish to visit so I selected one place and I have a plan to to visit there. This will also
be my medium term goal.
3. Learn new Technologies - I analysed that I have knowledge of some technologies so I
prepared some list and mentioned some useful technologies which will help me in my working
and personal life and one by one I will try ton lean this by set the medium term goals (McLean,
et. al., 2020).
Value of Long-term Goals
Long term goals usually take more time as compare to the short and medium goals. It can
take more than a year or 2 year. These goals required effective work structure which will help to
achieve the goal. These goals are that type of goals that individual want to accomplish in future.
To obtain this goal it is necessary to divide goal in to many small task so that individual can
complete all task step by step and then reach the long term goal without any problem and
individual can motivate themselves when he or she will complete these steps and give
themselves a gift and appreciation for completion of targeted steps. To achieve the long term
goals, there are few things which are essential to consider which are given below- Take Responsibility – To feel responsible toward their goal is the main thing which need
to consider every individual. Every one have a long list of dream but less number of
people take step to achieve them so it is important to feel responsible first and then start
to follow all the process which will help to reach their goal. Strong sense of
responsibilities will lead me to stick toward my goals (Memon, Peerzada, et. al., 2020). Strong Determination – A strong determination is necessary for those why really want to
accomplish their goal in future. There are few people who are serious to set long term
goal because it demand a lots of determination and people usually fail to concentrate and
show their active participation toward their goals. I need to be very deterministic about
my long term goal which will give me life long success in future.

More Courage – To attainment the long term goal required more courage. Individual
need to be very courageous so that he or she will get the mastery on their faith. I should
be very courageous to obtain specific long term goal because it will take too much time.
Personal Example
The explanation about my long term goals are given below-
1. Take Hospitality Degree – I future plan is to open a restaurant so that's why I have plan to
take degree in hospitality industry so that I can learn how to run the hotel business effectively s
that I will establish a restaurant in future.
2. Motivational Speaker – I also have plan to become a motivational speaker so that I will
motivate my friends, family and colleagues and create positivity in there life (Stachová, et. al.,
2019).
3. Get my Dream Job – My dream is become a successful entrepreneur so from now I am start
to consider all the skills and requirement which help me to become a successful entrepreneur.
Value of Personal Development Plan
Personal Development Plan is a continuous process which lead the over all development
of the individual so that they can become capable to achieve life long success. This plan usually
consider the career progression , self improvement and career changes. This plan is most
appropriate in order to achieve the long term goal. The prime purpose of this plan is to analyse
the existing skills and qualities and list out the those skills and appropriate qualities which are
essential to perform a particular job role and help in explore better career opportunities. These
are few steps which are prominent to prepare a personal development plans such as set a goal, set
deadline, identify strengths and weaknesses, develop needed skills, use support network, analyse
progress. This plan help set a specific task which help to analyse the future growth so that
individual can achieve their desired outcome. There are some values which need to consider the
PDP plan are given below- More Career Opportunities – Through PDP plan, individual can get more career
development opportunities and it make clear all the roadblocks which individuals are
facing in their personal and professional life. Self Growth - This plan lead the self growth and development, individual identify their
potential from self actualisation and then apply all the knowledge and skills to full fill all
their dreams and accomplish their long term goals.

Identify Strength & Weakness - Through this plan, people can easily analyse their
strength and weaknesses because this plan is helpful to measure all the current skills

To accomplish the short-term , medium and long term goals , a personal development
plan is very significant that's why I consider this plan for my personal and professional

To summarised this report it can be concluded that personal and professional
development is essential because it will help the individual to get the fruitful outcomes.
Individual need to develop a personal development plan so that they can easily accomplish
short , medium and long term goals which will help them to attain the life long success and they
can easily handle their personal and professional life through various qualities and skills which
they need to develop.
