INTRODUCTION
Every employer want skilled and talented employees in their organisation. Personal
development is not a goal, it is a lifelong process. Tesco is a public limited company which is
operating in retail industry. Their main area of operation is Asia and Europe. This report will
focus on identify learning style of an individual (Avalos, 2011). Potential barriers of learning
will also become part of this file. It will also include support mechanisms for own development.
SECTION 1
1.1 Identification of own learning styles
An individual can adopt various types of models in order to add something in their
personality so they can become eligibly for a job or any specific post. First approach that I can
use is intuitive. I can acquire new skill by gaining theoretical knowledge, I can practically apply
the information that I have learnt at my workplace which will be beneficial for me as well as for
my company. This learning style will suit my personality because I can like reading books based
on different topics, exploring social sites, which provide information about various subjects, is
my hobby. This approach focus on innovation and facts which is my area of interest. After
following this model for at-least one year, I can see huge different in my technical as well as
general knowledge. I prefer this learning style because it helped in hard time and it is most
effective strategy for my personality (Kumari, 2011).
Another method that I have adopted is reflective learning. I am a introvert person so it is
difficult for me to go and ask for help from a person who is complete stranger for me. Whenever
I think that I need some change in my personality, I like to evaluate all the available options.
Then I shift my focus on analysing the solutions so I can figure out a problem and its answer
without taking help on anyone. This approach played crucial role in developing my mind which
is helping me in remaining cool and calm in difficult situation. Both models made a positive
impact on my personality.
1.2 Simple technique for identifying own development needs
SWOT analyse is considered as one of the most effective method for understanding
personality of an individual. I have good theoretical as well as practical knowledge of
management. My marketing, HR skills are above average which is the main reason that my
company is giving me promotion every year. Changes in technology is happening very fast. I do

not have good knowledge of this sector. I take lot of time in acquiring new knowledge of
software or any electronic device. My introvert nature is not good for my career growth in
upcoming time because the post where I am working need strong relations with clients. Currently
I am working on the position on store manager of Tesco, I can enhance the revenue earned by
our store by minimising cost of operation and convenience more people to visit our outlet. I have
to work on my IT skills so I overcoming this major shortcoming and become regional manager in
forthcoming time (Maskit, 2011). If I do not improve my knowledge relating to technology than
it will make a negative impact on my personality. People who are less qualified and talented can
get the post which I deserve. If I learn couple of software and keep myself updated about new
technological changes than it will convert my weaknesses into strength. I can exploit the
opportunities which are currently out of my reach. My experience in HR and marketing
department will increase my chances of becoming divisional manager and it will also help me in
my personal life.
1.3 Potential barriers to learning
Learning new skill is not as easy as it sound. Their are various types of barrier which will
create different kind of hurdles when I will try to enhance my knowledge and improve my
personality. The first issue will be work life balance. I have to take care of my parents because in
old age they have to fight with various types of diseases. I have to help my wife in household
activities and enjoy with my children on holidays so I can spend some quality time with them
and strengthen my relationship with them. These activities will reduce the time that I could spend
on my personality by learning new skills. Financial burden is another barrier, learning new
software or studying new language require money (Moon, 2013). I have to take decision about
investing my saving in my eduction or my children's study. If I take loan than it will create a
huge burden on my financial status. Searching good coaching class is not an easy task because I
do not have any knowledge about current education system. Timing of classes can clash with my
working hours. Social barriers is another issue which many people face in their life when they
starts working on their personality. My family may not support my decision of joining some new
classes because they may get the feeling ''what other people will think''.
1.4 Overcoming barriers to learning
Problems are part of life and every individual has to face them. I understand importance
of personality development because it will be beneficial for career growth. I know that I will face

lot of barriers when I will start working on my shortcomings, I will use focus on one problem at
time so I can solve all the issues effectively (Olsen, 2015). First I will convenience my family by
telling them advantages of personality development. When they will find about merits of
learning new skills, they provide me unconditional support. After this I will focus on removing
financial barriers by asking help from my friends who are ready lend me money with zero
percent interest rate. I will explore internet in order to find proper coaching classes so I can find
the best study centre available in my city. What other people think is not my problem so which is
the main reason that I do not need to search solution of social barriers.
SECTION 2
2.1 Analysing learning/development options to meet my needs
SWOT analyse helped me understanding my current personality. Managing people
effectively is more core strength which has helped me in reaching the position where I am
standing today. My experience in marketing and human resource department is a special
combination which is very rare in the industry where I am working. It can help me in getting a
position in top level management in upcoming time. I can divide opportunities in two parts, first
is current and other is future. If I will increase revenue of store than I will get increment from my
company, I can use it in improving my IT skills by choosing best coaching class in the city
where I am living. Knowledge of technology is very important for every person because it play
crucial role in success and failure of an organisation (Trede, Macklin and Bridges, 2012).
As the manger of store, I have to deal with various types of problems, like solving
demand of customers, hiring right person at right position, make different type of promotional
strategies. I will take feedbacks from my subordinates and from my superior so I can evaluation
my own performance and find the areas where scope of improvement is high. They can tell me
about mistakes that I am doing at the time of making crucial business decision. First I need to
focus on learning new software so I can manage available resources efficiently. I also have to
work on my introvert nature because it is stopping me in maintaining decent level of
communication with my superiors. It also restrict me in making a friendly relationship which my
clients.

2.2 Support mechanisms for own development
When a person want to learn new skills he/she has to face various kind of barriers. First
problem will be support of family. In order to solve this issue I can take help of my friend who
has reached to the position of divisional manager by working on his HR and IT skill. These were
some areas where he was not up to par so he took did a course of two years and became expert of
both field. These two years were hard for him and for his family but now he can spend more time
with his family and he is working on a high package. My company is also suggesting me
improve my knowledge relating to technology. They are ready to pay for any further education
which will support me in removing financial barriers. I do not have to use my saving or get loan
from bank. My friend is offering me money without any interest which is another option which I
can considered if my company add any condition in at the tile of lending money. One of the most
important thing that I learnt from my boss is to ignore what people think about you. He can
motivate me in tuff time which will improve my morale. He told me that if you feel something is
right than do it, every person make mistakes but that does not mean that he/she should not that
risks in life.
