Personal and professional development is the concerned activity or process conducted by the
individual to bring development in the skills and also achieving the future objectives in near
future. The current report is being conducted that is being divided into the different task for
conducting the personal and professional development. First task would elaborate about
elaborating different approaches for self managed learning and increasing the effective lifelong
learning. Second task would give detail personal development portfolio, self evaluation and
concerned development plan. Task third will elaborate different progress for implementing the
plan and achieving the key success in the organization. In addition, task four will lead to achieve
the analysis of strategies for achieving time management goals and presenting solutions to work
based problems.

Approaches to self-managed learning (1.1)
Self managed learning is concerned as the concerned process followed by the individual to
learn something from the event for achieving the key goals of personal and professional
development. Within travel and tourism, it is effective for learning something to improve the
staff abilities and improve the key customer’s services (Cunningham, 2017). There are
different approaches that can enhance the potential of self managed learning of the staff. Some
of the approaches includes:
Learning through research: Individuals can learn through conducting research with the help
of books, online websites, etc. This would help individual to make changes in their working
styles with bringing development in skills and knowledge. This would help in managing
activities within the Travelodge but practical knowledge is being more effective as theoretical
knowledge.
Learning from others: Staff work in the surrounding where individual possess different
strengths and weakness. Staff members of Travelodge can adopt the strength of the team
member and helps in managing the activities (Graves, 2013). Manager’s guide and coach in
different manner regarding work performance, it is essential for individual to learn from that

The lifelong learning is being concerned as the learning of the staff in Travelodge to improve
its key strength and contribute to develop personal skills. It mainly includes the two aspects
that include personal capacity and development in the professional context. Being a manager
in Travelodge there are different ways to encourage lifelong learning that is explained below:
Kolb’s learning style: This learning style help to learn from the experiences and on everyday
basis. This includes Travelodge to follow the cycle that includes different stages. First stage
includes manager of Travelodge need to guide staff to learn from experiences, and in second
stage staff needs to be allowed to think about what they have done. Managers need to guide
them effectively about reviewing their experiences (Armstrong, 2014). At the third stage,
manager needs to motivate about learning the meaning about their experiences. At last stage,

Self evaluation: The current learning can be strengthening with the application of SWOT
analysis. Being as the manager, I will be able to evaluate the professional learning with the
help of professional learning tool and developing the self reflective learning. The self
reflective learning is all about reviewing the judgment, developing the opinion and
maintaining the learning of new skills at workplace (BPP Learning Media, 2013). Conducting
SWOT would help me to assess the strength, weakness, opportunities and key threats. Being a
manager, such evaluation can be applied in Travelodge by guiding staff to conduct their own
SWOT and take future actions to overcome the weakness and threats in workplace and
learning.

From the current task, I have completed my skills audit, see appendix 1. This helped to evaluate
my own current skills and skills. The current audit is being done to match with the standard of
job role and objective to be as the leading manager in Travelodge Hotel. Below is the evaluation
of own skills and competencies against the standards of Hotel manager.
