Task 1
Concept of personal and professional development
Personal and professional development is described as the overall development of a person
in its career as well as in its life also. Personal development is all associated with the normal
behavior of a person in its personal life and professional development is related with the
professional behavior in its professionalism (Choy and Chua, 2019).
Value of short-term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Short term goals can be define as the attainable goals which can be achieved in a short
duration of time such as it can take a day or a week and a month and even the year. It is
beneficial for a student because they are easy and simple to accomplish. They do not require the
commitment of long duration of time. It is considered as the great way to generate momentum.
Moreover, they permit the person to stay on the track and keep their motivation high which helps
them to boost their self-confidence. Short term goals are important because they are of less time
duration and can be attained easily. Examples of short term goals are to achieve the certification
of any online courses, achieving the communication skills and involving in sport activities
(Mashizume, Watanabe, Fukase and Takahashi, 2020).
Value of medium-term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Medium term goals can be defined as the goals which can be attained in the time duration
more than short-term goals and less than long term goals which means that it can be achieved in
minimum 2 weeks and it can also take a month and more than a year for example 2 or 3 years.
They are advantages for the person to achieve medium term goals because they are long enough
to make the progress which can be significant in nature as compared to short term and long term
goals and moreover these goals can be set multiple times over the course of the lifetime. Medium
term goals are important because it does not consume much time and it is also not very short to
achieve. Examples of medium term goals are to achieve the professional degree, learning about
time management skills and team work and networking kills (Welp, Johnson, Nguyen and Perry,
2018).

Value of long-term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Long term goals can be defined as the goals which can be achieved in a large duration of
time such as more than three years till the lifetime because these goals are related to the future
and career which needs proper time and planning. Advantages of long term goals are that they
are important for a successful career. The life will get excited by a completing the long term
goals because it helps the person in making decisions more easily and achieve something great in
life which realises them the level of life and their strengths which can match their goals. Better
personal and professional development are hidden in the long term goals as it decides the
standard of life and lifestyle of a person. Long term goals are important because they help a
person to achieve success in their life. Examples of long term goals are to gain experience in an
organization, preparing for the analytical skills for innovative and creative mind and leadership
skills to prepare for a mentor in professionalism (Grant, 2018).
Value of a Personal Development Plan
It is important to develop a personal development plan because it helps the person to
follow it and achieve it which support them in their career path for better growth and
development in personal and professional life as well (Gaikhorst, März, du Pré and Geijsel,
2019). If incorporating the personal goals with professional development is done by a person
then they can easily try to make the difference between them and relate between them for better
career and future development. This is because the personal goals and professional development
are interrelated with each other such as if the person attains its personal goals in an effective and
efficient manner then no one can stop the person in their professional development which makes
the way for its career growth and development. the reason behind this is that personal goals have
an in-depth relationship with the professional development as such goals helps the person in their
professional behaviour.
