INTRODUCTION
Academic skills are the necessary skills that are required to study effectively. There is
key role of personal development so that a person is able to set their career objectives. There is
need of setting objective and then working in the direction so that success can be achieved
(Rasheed and et.al., 2020). In this report, there is discussion related to the concept of personal
and professional development. Afterwards, the short-term, medium term and long term goals
meaning along with examples are important part of this report. The value of personal
development plan is mentioned in this report.
MAIN BODY
Define the concept of personal and professional development.
Personal development can be defined as activities that develop a person's capabilities,
potential, skills so that they are able to achieve goals and objectives. A person is able to know
more and more about self and work on the areas that need improvement. By developing own
skills a person will be able to enhance the lifestyle and be successful (Stanley, Belisle and Dixon,
2018). Along with that there is need to work on professional development. A person must know
about the career goals and then work on them. Professional development helps to enhance the
particular skills that help to make a person employment ready. An individual must set goals for
their professional development and then work on them to achieve success. It is being examined
that there is key role of personal and professional development in the life of individual. At the
time studying, a person must give proper attention so that they are able to learn properly. It is
also important to learn from the mistakes. There are various aspects that a person has to check so
that they are able to enhance the skills.
There is great importance of personal development as it helps to set personal vision and
achieve the set goals more clearly. It assist in setting targets and it becomes easier to make plans
and then work to achieve those objectives. There are some skills that need improvement so that a
person is able to attain success. There is requirements of proper communication skills as they
help in building relation with others (Morrissey, T.W. and Vinopal, 2018). It assist the person to
carry on all the activities effectively. It helps them to learn at every stage and attain all the goals
and objectives. There are certain obstacles in the path that can also be overcome with the help of
confidence. It helps them to deal with all the problems and then get faster solution of the same.

The use of professional development is also necessary for individuals. The students are able to
work on their academic skills and then make them strong. These skills will help them in future at
the time of getting job. By getting career path an individual is able to work in same direction and
achieve success. The formulation of action plan help them achieve success in their career. The
person must be encouraged so that they are able to achieve success. There is need to carry on
professional development proper manner so that all the goals and objectives are accomplished.

important to know about short-term goals as well. The short term goals are the support system

shorter duration of time and they assist in getting results faster. Students must work on short term
goals and must keep them motivating so that they are able to be prepared to achieve long term
goals. The individual must be aware about the all the tasks they want to achieve and the small
steps taken are known as short term goals. They are generally for a period of 1 year and it
becomes to track the progress. The short term goals must be clear and precise so that a person is
able to accomplish them in proper manner (Sallati, de Andrade Bertazzi and Schützer, 2019).
These goals help a person to stay motivated and work positively towards the success. These
goals are necessary to develop own self. It is important for the students to know about their
weakness and then working to overcome the same. The use iof short term goals helps a person
to achieve continuous development. They are able to work on all the small areas and then work
in proper manner so that real success can be achieved. At the time of continuous development
there are certain areas on which a person has to work so that they are able to achieve success
(Mulherin, Walter and Cox, 2018). The skills can be developed with the help of setting short
term goals. There is ned of several actions that a person has to take so that they are able to
achieve success. Most importantly they boost the confidence level of a person. By setting right
goals a person is able to work in the direction of career and then work in the same path. The
skills must be developed properly as they are facilitators to achieve long term goals. The short
term goals are as follows:

individual who is able to work properly on all the skills and goals becomes successful. These are
the directions in which the student wants to move and achieving these goals make them near to
their final goal. The examples of medium term goals are as follows:
To lead teams

To enhance time management skills

Long term goals are for longer duration of time. There is need of setting appropriate long
term goals because the future is based on the same. They are generally for a time period of more
than 5 years. It is necessary to be sure about the long term goals and then work to achieve them.

must be motivated so that they are able to work in same direction. The student must analyse their
performance on regular basis so that that do not face issue in the end. The achievement of long
term objective is important for the person (Sasson and Miedijensky, 2020). There success is
based on achievement of that skills. There is need to work on short term and medium term goals
properly so that the long term goal in also achieved in proper manner. There is need of hard work
and proper dedication so that long term objective is accomplished. A person must know the
interest and strengths so that they are able to carry achieve the long term goals. There is need to

able to attain progress. A person is able to stuck to the goal if they follow PDP properly. It is
necessary to match all the actions with the career objectives. The success must be monitored on

becomes important to understand that a student is motivated and dedicated so that they are able
to attain success and complete the actions that they have taken. It basically includes the actions
that will help to achieve a desired objectives.
