1. Introduction
Development is a long life process that may include the growth and success
too. It can either be personal or the professional development. Likewise,
determination of goals and objectives will enable an individual to direct it all
efforts and moves towards their attainment. This report will discuss about the
concept of personal and professional development. Likewise, it also discuss,
about the short, medium and long term goals that are further supported with the
individual example. Lastly, the concept of personal development plan is also
included in this report.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
Personal development:
It refers to the development of personal skills of an individual. Here the
qualities and the skills related with the personal life of an individual is being focusses
and developed. It is a long process in which people will analyse their skills and
qualities and on the basis of that they try to achieve and move towards the goal of
their life. It is like the journey of an individual wherein an individual will move towards
the direction of self enhancement and development (Tattum and Tattum, 2017). As
per this concept various qualities and skills got developed. It also facilitates building
human capital, raise quality of life and more likely convert the dreams into reality. It is
a long life process. Thus, it would not be wrong to said that the personality
development is solely concerned with the enhancement of personality of an
individual by making it attractive and complied with required skills and knowledge.
Professional development:
Professional development refers to the development of the professional qualities
and the skills. It is to be noted that the development of these qualities and skills are
solely related with the professional line of an individual. Here all the training and
required skills are focussed to be developed that will lead to the development of
career and success in professional life. It is also a long process that is needed to be
evolved and changes as per the requirement. This can be understood with an
example that as in the profession of an accountant there is a requirement of
accounting skills, while in case of a change in the profession and job say cashier
then it will need cash handling skills. Thus, professional development and the
development of its related skills got evolved and needed to be changes with the
changes in profession. However, it is to be consider that professional development is
related with learning to earn or maintenance of professional credentials (van Oeffelt
and et.al., 2017). Professional development will lead to raise the chance of grabbing
of success along with performing best in professional career stream. Thus, it can be
said that professional development in short is related to the development of an
individually as professionally making them professionally efficient and skilled so that
they can grab success in their career and professional life.

3. Description and discussion of the value of short term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Goals:
Goals or objectives are the aim that assist an individual to move towards a
specific direction so that those goals will be accomplished. In simple words these are
the end results which is being achieved by directing the activities and efforts towards
them (Janczyk and Kunde, 2020). It can also be right to said that goals are those
aims that may encourage an individual to direct its all efforts towards a particular
direction so that they can grabbed their desired and prospective goals.
Short term goals:
Short term goals are those goals which are achieved in short duration. These
goals are generally set in such a manner that they can be accomplished and
grabbed by an individual in short duration. In other words, these goal refers to those
aim which an individual is planning to do it in the near future. This near future can be
today, a week or a month (Lee and et.al., 2017). This means it includes all those
goals that an individual needed and planned to be achieved soon. In simple terms it
is a concept under which goals are short term and achievable in short period of time.
This can be understood with examples:
ï‚· An individual short term goal may include an establishment of balance
between work and personal life. This is a short term goal because it can be
achieved by an individual within a day or a week too because it all require
adequate time management.
ï‚· Another short term goal may be improving communication skill and network.
This is also counted as short term goal because it can also be achieved within
few weeks and a month by having participation in debates or speech
competition or by attending online tutorial.
ï‚· Likewise, time management is also counted as a short term goal of an
individual because this skill can be developed easily within a short period of a
week. in order to develop this skill an individual can all need to do is the
adoption of the practice of scheduling the task and dividing adequate timing.
These all examples are counted as short term goals because these can be
grabbed and achieved in a short span of time along with making the individual
efficient and direct it towards their personal as well as professional development too.
4. Description and discussion of the value of medium
term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Medium term goal:
It refers to those goals that are not fall in the category of short term or the long
term goal. This means that the medium term goals refer to an includes all those
goals that is needed to be accomplish in a medium range of time. These goals act as
a bridge that reduce the gap between short and long term goal. These goals are
generally targeted to be achieved within a period of 3 to 5 years. However, the
period may vary as per the nature of the goal (Coplan, 2019). This means that the
medium term goal can be complex as well easy to be achieved.
Examples of medium term goals:

ï‚· The medium term goal may include to be graduate from the college or
university. This is medium term goal because it will require more time in
comparison of short term goal which could be more than 3 years. However, it
is also counted as goal or aim because passing from university with degree is
obviously counted as goal or dream of student.
ï‚· Likewise, buying a house is also a medium term goal. This is because it will
also require time of more than 3 years. Also this is counted as a final because
it is like an aim or purpose for which an individual is doing its job.
ï‚· Another example could be building of experience in a specific sector of job.
This is medium term goal because in order to gain experience a minimum
time period of more than 3 years would be required. Likewise, this is counted
as goal because through this an individual can frame its career plan or future
job or carer.
Thus, it would be right to said that the medium term goals are also more
concerned with the personal and professional development because these lead an
individual to be directed towards the development of its professional; qualities along
with the personal enhancement so that professional dreams and goals can be
achieved. Likewise, it will also lead to making an individual self-efficient that it can
live its dreams come true.
5. Description and discussion of the value of long term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Long term goal:
It refers to those goals which requires time to be achieved and grabbed. This
are counted as long term because more time is required in order to make them
realize. They are usually like the dream which an individual want to achieve in its life.
This dream can be of any type that making is realization is like the attainment of the
long term goal. This are usually the end goals where an individual will achieve
everything and main moto of its life (Novikov, 2019). As these goals requires more
time for attainment so an estimated time that it need to be accomplished may include
more than 5 years.
These can also be understood with these examples:
ï‚· To reach at the top position in a dreamed company is a long term goal. This is
because in order to achieve that position an individual need to give its
adequate time and effort so that it’s dream of the top position will be achieved.
ï‚· Likewise, to become a leader in the concerned field may also be a long term
goal. This is because in order to be a leader and expert an individual need to
spend a lot of time for gaining such expertise and leadership.
ï‚· Another example could be to be an entrepreneur having won business. This
would definitely be long term goal because in order to be an entrepreneur an
individual need a lot of time to have an analysis of the market and the
business. Likewise, to become a self-owner an individual need to give its full
efforts and moves for converting dream into reality.
These all examples are counted as long term goal because in order to achieve
these goals there is a requirement of time. Likewise, it is to be noted that the long
term goal are above the personal and professional development. Although these
developments are related with the long life process but again it would not be wrong

to said that the long term goals are like the end results of these developments. This
is because it is like that stage where an individual dream and wishes are fulfilled and
reached.
6. Description and discussion of the value of a Personal
Development Plan
Personal development plan:
It refers to a plan under which an individual can make the development of all
the skills that is required in the normal course of life. Personal development plan
leads to an enhancement of personality development of an individual. Under this
plan various activities and steps are determined along with the required sources and
the time duration. So it would not be wrong to said that along with directing an
individual towards the personality development, the personal development plan also
provides a complete guide along required time frame so that the goals can be
accomplished within the specified timeframe (PLANNING, 2018). It is also to be
noted that personal development plan is counted as an important plan because it
provides guidance and direction to an individual by which it can achieve its goal and
lead to the development of personality. In other words, it is like that plan and process
by which an individual’s short, medium and long term goal will be accomplished and
achieved.
As planning is the base for the attainment of objective which could either be
personal and the professional. Likewise, personal development plan also assists an
individual to be directed and lead to the movement of an individual towards the
direction of its objectives. This plan also provides an idea to an individual that by
denoting its fruitful efforts where it could reach in the new few weeks and month. It
provides a vision towards the future. As if an individual knows its dreams and aims
then it would be very easy to construct this plan because in these case all activities
and moves regarding the attainment of those aims are determined.
Importance:
This is counted as an important plan because it gives clarity towards the
personal vision and assist direction. Likewise, along with the development of new
skills it will also lead to sharpen the existing skills too. It enables a shine to talent of
an individual. This means that this plan will lead to shine the talent and career of an
individual (Grit, 2019). It also raises the level of satisfaction and motivation among an
individual by fulfilling and realizing its skill and development.
7.0 Conclusion
From the above report it is concluded that setting up of goals which could
either be short, medium or long term will lead to the achievement of success and
converting dreams into reality. Goals are like the end results upon which an
individual whole efforts are directed. An understanding about the life long personal
and professional development is also understood from this report that how these
developments lead to the overall growth and development of an individual. Likewise,
it is also understood that by determining the required steps how an individual will
