INTRODUCTION
The report provides deeper insight into Personal development. It is a process in which
people assess their qualities and skills, and considering their aim they set goals in order to
maximize their potential to achieve the desired goal and achieve the feeling of fulfilment. The
report will be examining the concept of personal and professional development and will be
elaborating its importance in constructing the personality of a person and helping them in
boosting confidence. Furthermore, examination of research will exhibit analysis on discussing
the value of short term, medium term, and long term goals with identifying any three personal
examples of each. Study will also determine emphasis to discuss the personal development plan
and will also be constructing examples based on the identified goals.
MAIN BODY
Defining the concept of personal and professional development
Personal development:
This is the process of improving self entity through activities for the purpose of
enhancing employability skills, wealth building skills and increasing consciousness of a person.
It is a part of human need to grow and reach out to their full potential(Lejeune, Beausaert, and
Raemdonck, 2021.). This process is ongoing as it starts from the childhood from a person's
formatting years and continue to grow till the old age. It allows an individual to set goals, learn
new skills and develop qualities in a person that makes him/her different from others. When all
these skills are developed within an individual's personality he/she becomes more happy and
motivated which provides capability to endeavour personal growth and development.
Professional development:
These are the set of resources, tools and training sessions that improves the qualities of
an individual to help them with their job and stay up to date with the current trends in order to
perform growth to career(Borg, 2018). It provides multiple benefits like expanding the
knowledge base of individuals and boosting their confidence and credibility which may result in
increased hire-ability and earning potential for them.
In many technical fields a person is required to take part in continued education which is
prerequisite for their job to maintain the certification, designation or licence of learning courses.
These needs of employees are met by providing approved continuing education.

Personal and professional development plan help people to assess their skills and

and professional development plan may be undertaken in various ways like training, coaching,
and education programmes(Player, and et.al., 2020). In a workplace benefits of personal and
professional development may be seen by achieving promotions and development of hard and
soft skills in an individual. In personal life it may help and individual to be confident and enjoy
its existence, this may even result in radical alteration in entity of a person.
Description and discussion of the value of short term goals identifying at least 3 personal
examples
Short term goals are set of goals which a person desires to accomplish soon or in near
future. By near future, it is meant that the goals may be accomplished in a day, on a week or in a
year. These goals are stepping stones that may tend to look small, but they push the individual
closer to long term goals in accomplishing them(Wang, and Spinney,2017). Following these
goals may lead to big lifetime and career opportunities and boost the productivity of the
individual. These goals minimize procrastination and lay a clear path to success(Wolters, Won,
and Hussain, 2017).
Some examples of my short term goals are:
1. Learn a new language
Knowing different languages carry cognitive benefits, that are undeniable. It is fact that people
who know more than one language have problem solving and critical thinking abilities, and they
have improved memory, it also enhances concentration power and train the mind for
multitasking. Knowing all these benefits I decided to learn a language as soon as possible. So I
decided to learn Spanish during the covid time to upgrade my skills.
2. Exercise regularly
Being healthy is a boon and it may only be achieved by applying personal efforts. The hardest
part is to take the first step, this may be done by stepping out of the comfort zone and making a
consistent routine. I made a goal to exercise for 30 minutes daily no matter what the situation is.
We all know that we don't feel the same all days some days we feel enthusiastic, some days we
knowledge and skills on their employment field with may further boost their career opportunities
and provide promotions, incentives and additional benefits.

to be mindful, energetic, and productive the whole day. I made a short term goal to follow this
routine to get up till 6 a.m. daily in order to gain the above mentioned benefits and advantage
personal and professional development.

Medium term goals are goals that may be accomplished only after following a sequence

cushion sudden loss of job. It is important to make medium term saving goals for personal and
professional development of an individual.
My medium term goal for monitory savings is to maintain the balance of $1000 in my bank
account for three months.
Earn a professional certificate:
Professional certificates holds a prominent importance in professional development and
demonstrates commitment towards professionalism and provides credibility to an
maintain consistency.

individual. They keep the person focused and help them to shape the path of their career and
lives. These goals give reason for an individual to constantly keep working for long term results
for this they are required to follow set of shot term and medium term goals to be focused and

an individual to be persistent. These goals are highly significant for personal development as

I'm developing all the skills that are required for this purpose and taking sufficient training and
acquiring professional certificates, This will result to build my knowledge and will help me in
establishing my own firm till the age of 40.

age. Therefore, my long term goal is to learn piano.
