1PERSONAL LEADERSHIP AND ANALYSIS
Week 12
What can I do to continually develop my leadership skills?
Skills are considered to be the greatest intellectual capital in today’s market of job. The
21st century demands a constant update and upgradation of skills of professionals working in
various fields. As a management student and an aspiring leader, I believe that I am a prolific
professional who is passionate towards his/her work and occupation. Therefore, to prove myself
best in my field, I need to be in a constant development of my customary and secondary
leadership skills. In order to continually develop my leadership skills, I should make constant
motive to take on more projects and endeavors on me so that I am always in contact with the
team and brush up my leadership skills. I should keep learning new abilities and prospects. As
the proverb says, “learning has no end”, therefore, a good leader should be open to all sorts of
new learning regarding his/ her career and profession (Gujral 2012). I should also make the habit
to be a good listener. As I believe that I am a little impatient in nature, I should nurture the habit
of listening patiently to my teammates so that my leadership skills are used for the benefit of the
team as a whole.
What are the three key actions for enhancing my leadership skills?
The three key actions that I have chosen for enhancing my leadership skills are:
1. Constant learning: Being a prospective leader in the arena of corporate world, I believe
that I need to learn more regarding my job. Therefore, I have planned to learn more about
leadership skills through theoretical and practical media, such as books, blogs, video
blogs, practical classes of soft skills and live demonstrations of good leadership. I should
be in a constant endeavor to learn new aspects regarding my skills.

2. Focus on communication: Even though I believe that I am quite apt in communication, I
still need to develop certain customary habits of communication, such as active listening
and perseverance while communicating. Being a leader, I need to understand the
problems and issues faced by my subordinates which would help me to take correct
decision for my team. To acquire such dexterity, I have chosen to practice active listening
as a part of learning process of communication.
3. Practice discipline: A great leader is always disciplined and organized within himself/
herself (Van Velsor and Wright 2012). Developing discipline in my professional and
personal life would affect my productivity in the workplace. If I remain disciplined and
organized in my attitude, thought and action, I would be able to achieve the highest point
of success in my career or professional life.
