INTRODUCTION
Personal leadership is regarded as one of the most important factors in today's firm. It is
the backbone of total quality management as well as operations that are team based. With the
assistance of this approach, an organization can attain its pre-defined set of goals (Burke and
Collins, 2005). It is important for the organization to develop suitable leadership and
management skills in order to sustain in the market. In order to apply for leadership and
management position, the renowned organization is Tesco. I have carried out analysis of my
personal skills. The present report includes analysis of the impact of organizational objectives,
values and culture on leadership and management role.
TASK 1
1.1 Analysis of the impact of organizational objectives, values and culture on the leadership and
management role
The objective of an organization presents the psychology as well as attitude that the
leader has passed to its team and employees of organization. Leader within Tesco is effective in
communicating ethics, values and beliefs of firm to the employees so that achievement of targets
can be ensured. The mission and vision statement of the firm clearly binds the employees to
work in a particular direction. If the goals have not been clearly defined then it creates confusion
among the employees of organization. This spreads negativity at the workplace culture
(Cacioppe and Albrecht, 2000). In situation when the code of conduct within firm is smooth, it
leads to improvement in the organizational culture which results in improving the commitment
of employees towards work. It has been viewed that the organization where work culture is
healthy, the aggression at workplace is minimum. The objectives, culture as well as values have
greater impact on the organization. Moreover, it also affects the attitudes as well as behavior of
personnel to a significant level. The role of leadership can be greatly viewed towards the
achievement of organizational targets. This would result in enhancing the satisfaction level of
employees (Rowitz, 2009). The impact of organizational values and culture on the behavior of
leadership as well as satisfaction through job can be examined with the assistance of correlation
analysis. It can be analyzed that culture at work place is positively correlated with the leadership
behavior and job satisfaction.

It has been determined that the role of culture is imperative in examining whether the
employees are satisfied or not. Through existence of healthy culture within organization,
personnel are satisfied and their performance level also increased significantly (Emiliani and
Emiliani, 2013). Through smooth interaction of leader and employees, team spirit would be
developed. Further, the personnel work in a coordinated manner. In Tesco, the employees are
promoted and motivated to attain the pre-defined set of targets which leads to enhance their
satisfaction level from the job.
1.2 Evaluation of leadership and management skills required to support achievement of
organizational objectives
The objective of firm like Tesco is to gain insight to the customer's requirement. Further,
the aim of business is to offer superior quality of products to customers that deliver value to
them. This can be done by using the latest and innovative technology. The leadership and
management skills that are required to support the achievement of organizational objectives have
been evaluated in the manner below: Planning: Such skills play an essential role in determining the goals as well as objectives
of the firm in an effective manner. This type of management skill is the foundation that
leads to beginning of the business functions (Jones, 2004). Planning is essential for both
long term and short run. It is carried out with an aim to attain the predefined set of
organizational goals. In Tesco, planning is done with an aim to reduce the uncertainty
where changes occur within market. Monitoring: Another required major skill is related with monitoring. It is important to
keep a track on the work that whether it has been carried out as per the expected goals or
not. Monitoring is conducted on regular basis in order to obtain the information regarding
performance of employees within specified time interval. With this, the progress of
personnel can be measured with effectiveness (Lakshman, 2008). Monitoring plays an
important role in measuring the gap between actual and expected performance so that
corrective actions can be taken within reasonable time duration.
Commanding: It is one of the most effective skills that develop effectual leadership. It is
important for the leader to give orders and to delegate the responsibility to their

subordinates in a manner that is understandable by them. Within Tesco, the managers
provide orders and instructions to the employees so that results can be attained in
accordance with their expectations.
TASK 2
1.3 Assessing personal leadership and management skills
Tesco aims at offering effective services to the customers. In order to attain the objectives
of Tesco, I have carried out personal assessment of my leadership as well as management skills.
This would assist me in determining the areas where improvement is required. Through analysis,
I have determined certain skills that exist within me at present. These are in relation with
communication, leadership, motivation as well as skills related with time management (Porter
and Rees, 2008). For the purpose of assessing these skills, several tools and techniques have been
used by me. This is because; it would assist me in making analysis of the flaws in skills in an
appropriate manner. These are as follows:
Taking feedback from my previous colleagues: With the assistance of this technique, I can
effectively determine the deficiency in my skills in an appropriate manner. It is due to the reason
that fellow employees are effective in providing knowledge regarding flaws. With the suggestion
provided by them, skills deficiency can be reduced to a significant level. Through the feedback
gained from my colleagues, I am able to determine the leadership skills which I possess. Further,
the feedback from colleagues also assists in determining whether or not they are being
implemented in an appropriate manner. In case of deficiency in skills, proper plan is required to
be devised so that improvement can be bought by me.
Appraisal of my skills: With the assistance of several kinds of performance appraisal
techniques, I am able to determine the flaws in my skills in an effective manner. It is due to the
reason that through performance appraisal, organization can access the recital flaws within
employees. This is associated with the skills of personnel (Rabey, 2005). On the basis of
analysis, if it is determined that organization is attaining less profitability then in such condition,
I would make efforts towards bringing alterations in my ability in an effective manner.

2.1 Assessing opportunities for the development of leadership and management skills
There is existence of several kinds of opportunities that have been determined and which
would assist me in bringing development in my leadership as well as management skills. These
have been enumerated in the manner as stated below: Formal training from professionals: By taking part in the training session with respect to
development of leadership and management skills in me, I would be able to develop my
skills and potential with effectiveness. With such type of training exercise, I would be
able to use different kinds of leadership styles in varied business situations. Thus, this
would act as an aid in carrying out the work performance in an appropriate manner. Reading books and journals: With an aim to enhance my management skills that are
related with the time administration, I would read several kinds of books which are
written by the popular authors. Through the assistance of such, I would be able to comply
with several types of improvements in my existing proficiencies. Mentoring: This is required to be carried out by me with assistance of attaining leadership
program that is carried out by the famous leaders in retail sector. By obtaining knowledge
from their experience regarding application of skills, I would be able to bring
improvement the skills where I am lacking.
Obtaining feedback from my previous employees: With the assistance of this technique, I
would be able to gather positive as well as negative feedbacks regarding leadership and
management skills. With this, I would be able to improve my skills with effectiveness.
Feedback from my previous employees would assist me in gaining insight to the areas
where I am lacking. Thus, suitable actions can be taken in order to improve the skills
where I am weak.
2.2 Construction of personal development plan with clear objectives to develop leadership and
management skills
For the purpose of developing my skills related to leadership and management, several
objectives have been established. In order to attain this, I have developed personal development
plan. This has been enumerated in the manner below:

failure to comply with the suggested practices. For instance, I have developed certain schedule to
accomplish the routine activities but such is not followed in the situation of delay in
accomplishing the activity within desired time period.
In the similar way, the leadership style that is used by me is not liked by the fellow
employees. Further, the time duration set by me for the purpose of attending seminars and
conferences has not been achieved. Along with this, the verbal communication style that has
been adopted by me does not prove to be effective in the environment that is prevailing in Tesco.
It is essential to implement personal development plan with due care so that the desired targets

can be achieved in an effective manner. For this, I have designed several activities that would
result in managing leadership and management skills. In order to manage the personal
development plan of leadership and management skills, I have implemented several tools and
techniques. Management as well as review of personal development plan is not one time activity
but needs continuous efforts of the management. This is because; it results in bringing
improvement in the performance of employee in an effective manner. Further, with the
assistance of reflection, I can examine the flaws that exist in my ability that affects my
performance within Tesco. Through technique of feedback, leadership and management skills
can be managed in an appropriate manner.
TASK 4
3.1 Reviewing personal development plan against the original objectives
I have carried out review of personal development plan against the original objectives in
an effective manner. This is in relation with the time management, verbal communication,
motivational skills as well as the ability to manage conflicts. With an aim to attain these skills,
several timeframes have been determined by me. For the purpose of reviewing skills, several
techniques have been used by me. This is in relation with obtaining feedback from fellow
colleagues and recording the achievement. It requires time-frame of two months for the purpose
of improving my motivation skills. Based upon the analysis, it has been determined that I
required several alterations in my ability to motivate.
It has been gained that learning aspect is not one time activity but it needs continual
efforts that can assist in bringing improvement. Along with this, it has been accessed by me that I
have improved my ability to manage time in an effective manner. Reading of books has assisted
me in bringing improvement. But still there are certain difficulties that I face while carrying out
multiple tasks. Reading books has benefited me in enhancing my skills in terms of
communication. It is because; with such, I was able to enhance my verbal communication skills.
With the assistance of such, I have examined several improvements in my leadership skills.
However, I still require time to enhance my skills related to grievance handling in an effective
manner. It is due to the reason that all such things have been acquired by me in theoretical
aspect. Practical application of the activities is essential for the purpose of enhancing my skills

related to work. This can be enhanced by organizing several simulation exercises (Carmichael,
2011).
3.2 Evaluating effectiveness of personal development of leadership and management skills
By adopting the process of evaluation, I can be able to access my current position with
regard to my personal development in an effective way. However, by adopting benchmarking
technique, it helps in assessing the effectualness of personal development plan. Further, by
adopting such approach, it helps me to perform certain actual objectives within a particular
period of time. Through carrying out analysis, performance related flaw has been found then I
can comply with different types of enhancement for the same. However, in order to gain
different types of skills, I have set certain time limit. Furthermore, after carrying out the analysis,
I assessed that acquiring these skills is not the one time approach but it requires me to comply
with the regular efforts with an aim to enhance the same. Also, gaining theoretical knowledge by
attending seminars and conferences is not considered as effective unless it is to be applied in
certain piratical situation.
Furthermore, it can be analyzed that with the assistance of such theoretical knowledge, I
have found certain type of enhancement in my leadership and management skill. Also, I have
identified that there are varied skills which need to be acquired by me. It involves managing
stress among employees, enhancing motivational skills along individuals etc. (Mabey and Lees,
2007). Thus, acquiring such skills help me to develop my personal development in an effective
manner. Therefore, I can be able to achieve the stated goals and objectives of Tesco where I need
to get employment in the near future at leadership and management position.
3.3 Analysis of areas for further development and updating personal development plan
There are several areas that are identified by me where I need to bring improvements.
Based upon this, I need to comply with the practices that result in the development of my
personal and leadership skills. The updated personal development plan has been enumerated in
the manner below: People skills: Such skills can be enhanced by me through attaining several kinds of
seminars as well as conferences with respect to the management of people within
organization (Elo and et.al., 2014). Along with this, I would comply with several team

activities within firm. This kind of activity would assist me in accessing the behavior of
several types of people. Based upon their behavior, I can enhance my skills related with
people. Management of stress in workers: With an aim to remove the stress as well as work
pressure, I would read several kinds of books and journals. With the assistance of these
books, I would be able to manage the stress of co-workers and me in an appropriate
manner. Such kind of activity assists the firm in attaining its pre-defined target in the best
manner (Wang, 2005).
Improvement in motivational skills: Such kind of skills can be enhanced by attending
motivational lectures as provided by several authors in the particular field. I will direct
my efforts in the aspects of learning several theories of motivation. With this, I would be
able to motivate my fellow workers with effectiveness. Moreover, improvement in
motivational skills would result in increasing the morale of fellow workers which would
enhance their satisfaction from the job in an appropriate manner (Watson and Vasilieva,
2007). Improvement in motivation skills will increase my efficiency to influence the
behavior of subordinates and direct their efforts towards the attainment of common goal.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the study that with the assistance of suitable leadership and
management skills, I would be able to direct my efforts towards the achievement of desired
objectives in an effective manner. It can be inferred from the study that personal development
plan is appropriate in achieving the pre defined goals in the best manner. Several opportunities
are available to the personnel with which they can bring enhancement in the skills related with
management and leadership. With the assistance of personal development plan, I was able to
manage and update my skills. This has further lead to the achievement of business goals in an
appropriate manner.
