INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management is very essential for successful ruining of organisation
(Aarons and et.al., 2015). This is an important part of company which help in effective decision
making and motivating employees for attaining goals and objective. Leadership and
management leads to creating confidences in employees as well as providing direction to
workforce of organisation. Both leadership and management aims at achieving goals and
objective of organisation by motivating employees. These function of organisation are crucial
components and it has huge difference between working of leadership and management styles.
For this report chosen company is Tesco. It is a British multinational company which is dealing
in groceries and general merchandise retail sector. Tesco was established in 1919 and founder of
this company is Jack Cohen. This report is based on analysing impact of organisational objective,
values or culture on leadership and management role. It consist of leadership and management
skills that helps in achieving objectives of organisation. It includes personal assessment plan for
skills and development as well as implementation of plan. This report also consist of reviewing
and analysing areas for further development of skills.
TASK 1
Impact of organisational objective, values and culture on the leadership and management roles.
Organisation is based on certain goals and values which affect working system and style
of company. Each and every employee of organisation works to achieve set targets and goals as
well as leaders or manages of organisation work with the aims of achieve set objective.
Organisational values, objective and culture have huge impact on roles of leadership as well as
management (Arnold and et.al., 2015). Both of this needs to work according to organisational
culture so that they can have maximum positive impact on business. Mangers and leaders have to
consider values of company and their decisions as well as actions should be based on values of
organisation. Impact on organisational objective, culture and values on roles of leadership and
management is mentioned below:
Impact of objective: Each and every function of organisation is based on achieve set
goals and objective. So mangers and leaders roles and responsibility is completely dependent on
objective and goals of organisation. There are short term as well as long term objective of
company which directly affects the role of leaders and manages in company. It is very important

to set clear and specific objective of business so that leaders and mangers can carry out their
activities effectively and efficiently. Tesco company objective is to increase sales and profits by
providing valuable product and services to their customers. Roles of leaders and manages in to
motivate workforce of organisation to develop high quality products in order to achieve objective
of organisation. Clearly set objective of organisation will also leads to improve in productivity of
company
Impact of values: Ethical values and belief of organisation will affect the working style
of leadership and management. Both of them have to work according to values of organisation as
well as all strategies and decision taken by managers and leaders needs to be based on values of
company (Babalola, Stouten and Euwema, 2016). Tesco company values is established on the
ground of its customers and employees. Leaders and mangers role is to develop strategies and
take decision for welfare of organisation as well as it should be integrated with core values of
company. These values of organisation will help company to develop standard position in
market.
Impact of culture: Organisation culture refers to system through which organisation
carry out its functions as well as working style of employees. Culture of organisation have huge
impact on role of leadership and management. It is very important to analyse the culture and
environment of company before developing strategies for organisation. Organisational cultural
will help leaders and mangers in taking various important decisions for company. If organisation
have strict rules and regulation culture than leadership and management role is to carry out
activities by considering strict environment culture of company. Tecso culture is very positive
and friendly so role of leaders and manages will be based on organisational culture.
Evaluate leadership and management skills requires to support achievement of organisational
objectives.
In an organisation various activities are performed and to execute these activities some
skills are required (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). Some skills and abilities are needed by
management team to fulfil their tasks and achieve desired objectives in an organisation, these
skills are known as Management skills. In TESCO these skills guides managers to perform their
activities such as relationship with team members, interaction between them, team leading
qualities etc.

skills. In context to TESCO , it can includes increment in sales, marketing of products
and services, promoting ideas and designing products which can help the organisation to

ï‚· Interpersonal skills: These skills are defined as ability of a manager to maintain healthy
and sound environment in an organisation (DeConinck, 2015). TESCO can have this by
developing communication among employer and employees, motivating them to give
their best and provide chances to develop their creativity skills.

Effective leadership increase employees participation in the activities of organisation, solve
conflicts and creating positive environment in the company. Leadership skills required to achieve
objectives in TESCO are such as:

others effectively. TESCO can improve its working through calm and steady
communication flow between employer and employees (Fric and et.al., 2015). Through
regular discussion leader came to know about needs and wants of each and every
employee. It is the duty of leader to give and receive feedback regarding worker's
performances, this will create positive environment in-spite of negative.
ï‚· Integrity: It refers to maintain strong values and ethics in the company to achieve goals
in a proper ethical manner. Integrity also relates to trustworthiness and truthfulness of the
employees for the company. In context of TESCO, it is a well-known and respective

to achieve the organisational objectives.
ï‚· Innovation skills: TESCO can develop their business by promoting the innovations in
the organisation. A leader should know how to increase creativeness and innovations in a
company. A great leaders always supports innovations by own or others in company to
achieve objectives. Innovation in organisation leads towards achievement of targets and
solving issues and hindrances.

Personal development plan is a study of evaluating skills of persons by considering safe
rating and others rating on skills. It is very important for identifying current leadership and
management skills in an individual (Gibson and Parkman, 2018). Personal development plan is a
process which help in improving skills of individual through determining and evaluating skills
on bases of other's and self feedback. Personal development plan is mention below with my
currents skills as well as rating in order to evaluated which skills needs to be developed.

Strength and weakness are evaluated careful on the bases on above mentioned skills. By
evaluating this, it will be quite easier to identify those are skills which are currently present and
which skills needs to be developed for attaining set goals and objectives. My strength and
weakness is mention below.

emotional intelligence skills, creativity or
innovation as well as decision making. All of
these skills are very essential in effective and

Emotional intelligence skills is very helpful in
understanding other emotions and handling

Galloway, 2017). It leads to help in developing
effective motivation qualities. Motivation
improve performance of employees as well as
achieving set goals and objectives. Decision
making quality is very important for taking
right and quick decisions. Creative and
innovative ideas helps in dealing with complex
situations easily.
Weaknesses consist of communication, team
building, delegation, problem solving. These
affect my leadership and management skills.
Dues to lack of communication skills, I'm not
be to convey required task and strategies
effective. Because of this issue, I'm facing
issue in effectively delegating task to
employees. Team budding is very essential for
effective and efficient working of organisation.
Due to lack of this skills it have negative
impact on productivity of organisation. Lack of
problem solving skills effect relationship with
employees. It have negative impact on
employees because of unsolved problems
within organisation.
By analysing strength and weaknesses, it will help in identifying skill that will leads to
achieving goals as well as skill that needs to developing for effective and efficient leadership and

helps an organisation to develop greater opportunities for achievement of internal success
in future because good communication always leads towards ultimate attainment.
ï‚· Delegation: For many organisations delegation is an important task to perform
activities. Delegation refers to assignment of duties or authorities to another member or
subordinate for carrying out specific activities. In a company manager, leader or
supervisor delegates task to any subordinate with responsibility to complete it.
Delegation helps subordinate to be more creative and efficient, it also helps managers to
develop their talent and skills. Delegation of authority to subordinates leads to self
confidence in workers and enthusiasm. It will be an opportunity to be self aware, boost
team moral and skills development, improve efficiency and productivity, promotes
innovation and motivation (Kassotakis, 2017). It open paths for many workers to show-
off their talents in front of company which will be beneficial to achieve ascertain targets.

ï‚· Problem solving: Problem solving skills refers to activity where solutions are find out in
orderly manner by using several methods. It is duty of manager or leader of a team to
solve conflicts and issues created by member to maintain harmony in company. When
problems are solved by managers, the relationship among employer ans employees are
resolved. Different strategies are prepared by a leader to figure out problems, in this hit
and trial method is used to solve conflicts among members. Managers and leaders follow
some skills to solve problems such as: communication, analysis, research, creativity,
active listening, dependability, decision making and team building. Problem solving
activity leads towards peace and harmony among team members and organisation. This
will create opportunity for an organisation to develop their working environment and
chances to increase productivity. In a company if there is less problems, there would high
productivity which helps an organisation to achieve targets.

Managing personal development of leadership and management skills.
In order to manage personal development of leadership and management skills, it is very
important to improve skills which are lacking (Maurer, Hartnell and Lippstreu, 2017). There are
some skills which I needs to develop for effective and efficient working. These skills will help in
improving performance as well as attaining set goals and objective. It will leads to enhancing
management and leadership skills for better performance in Tesco organisation. Skills which I
needs to improve and develop includes communication skills, problem solving, delegation, team
building. These skills are mention below.
Communication skills: This skill is very important developing effective leadership and
management skills. In order to improve these skills I needs to learn how to speak confidently
with others in public area. It is quite important to have knowledge about person with whom we
are communication and by knowing audience we can communicate more effectively and
confidently (McGowan and K. Stokes, 2015). Group discussion is best methods to develop
communication skills. This will help in conveying ideas and view points on certain topic to other
as well as listening other idea also. Effective listening is very essential to improve
communication and developing positive communication will leads to strong relations.
Delegation skills: This skill is related to effectively managing and leading employee.
This is very important skills as it serve as a link between organisation and employees. In order to
develop effective delegation skill, I needs to understand which task needs to be delegated and
which task should be done by whom. For this it is very important to have knowledge about skills
and ability of employees so that right task should be assigned to them. It is essential to identify
priority of task so that all task can be completed at required time period. Task should not be only
delegated verbally but its needs to be assigned over text or email.
Problem solving: Problem solving is a very important skill that needs to be develop for

problems as well as solution to it. For developing effective problem solving skill, I needs to

important to develop an effective team in organisation. Building a wining team is a crucial for

within a team. By considering view point of all employees and providing values to their ideas
will leads to have positive impact on building team. A strong team can be build by
communicating all task clearly as well as giving one common task to whole team. This will
encourage team members to share information with each other and helping other employees of

There are various ways to evaluate effectiveness of personal development plan of
leadership and management skills. After determining personal development plan and developing
various skills of leadership and management (Pongpearchan, 2015). It can be analysed that it is
very important to analyse effectiveness of personal development. In order to identify this certain
ways which can be used is mentioned below:
Less conflict issue in organisation: By improving problems solving skills, it helps in
managing issue and conflicts of organisation in new and creative way. Personal development
plan effectiveness can be measure by identifying decrease in conflicts issues in organisation.
Through communication skills I am able to convey and communicate more effectively and
clearly. This is very helpful in solving issues or comfits of employees with other employees or
company.
Timely completion of task: Delegation skills has helped a lot in assigning task to right
person and this will leads to timely completion of all the task of organisation. It is very important
for organisation to complete all the required task completed within given time frame. By
developing delegation it is easy to priorities task and delegating right task to right employees.
Increase in productive of business: Increase in productive of business help in
determining effectiveness of personal development plan (Popli and Rizvi, 2015). By improving
team building skills and motivating team members to achieving set goals and objective of
organisation it directly affect increase in overall productivity of Tesco. Employees are helping
each other to complete task effectively and efficiently.
By evaluating effectiveness of personal development plan it can be analysed that I am
successful in developing different skills of leadership and management. Skills that is completed
achieved is problem solving and team building. But there are some skills which is not fully
developed as it required more time to fully achieve those leadership and management skills.
Communication skills require more time and practise to fully develop so this skills is not
completely developed. Delegation skill is very complex as well as it is also depended on others
skills and ability. This skill is also not completely develop as identifying which task to delegate
and to whom required some time and experience. So from above evaluation it is identify that
communication and delegation skills of leadership and management is not completed developed.

of employees as well as achieving set goals and objective of organisation. There is huge effect of
