2PERSONAL MANAGEMENT TO DEVELOP SELF-AWARENESS FOR EFFECTIVE PROBLEM SOLVING IN WORKPLACE
Introduction
Self-Management is basically an individual wish that keeps a person moving forward with its
activities so that he can achieve a successful career in managerial role. These particularly
planned activities basically help to develop self-awareness among various individuals and
encourages a person to become productive and acquire skills so that he can be able to identify
solution to any kind of problem or challenge faced by the workplace (Jackson, 2015). This
particular discussion shall revolve round various skills that I adopted in making the
employees aware about themselves regarding their proceedings in work and implement easy
techniques towards problem-solving or major challenges that might be faced in the
organization.
Discussion
Self-awareness is basically one of those important components that are associated with
Emotional Intelligence (EI) (Hopkins and Yonker, 2015). I feel that that ability of self-
assessing oneself renders opportunities to that person so that he can understand his strengths
as well as weaknesses and the person will gradually develop better sense of humour about
own self and work on those limitations that he might be experiencing. Sometimes I feel like
not to acknowledge those weaknesses as I think that many people may deny those arrears of
weakness of mine and some senior executives do not show any eagerness in giving any
constructive feedback to my problems as a result I lack motivation to work hard on those
areas. These type of drawbacks in personal management appear to be blind spots and these
always remain invisible to concerned people. Self-awareness is basically an initial step that
would lead an individual forward to maximize his skills in managerial role. This would
further help in identifying various opportunities that would further help in personal growth as
well as professional development.

It is necessary on my part to understand myself and build self-awareness with respect to
certain areas of ourselves such as personality traits, habits, psychological necessities, personal
values, emotions and all these characteristics of mine help to influence my behaviour.
1. Development of personality
Usually we people do not have a tendency to modify our personalities, values as well as
requirements on the basis of ideas about ourselves. If we take a deep look into our
personalities and judge on them, then we would get opportunity to thrive in various kind of
situations and this will further help us to avoid certain extreme cases when we would be
having chances to experience stress (Noe et al. 2014). For example a person who works in the
sales department of an organization will find it difficult to cope up himself according to the
demand for sales if he is an introvert person however a person with extrovert patterns of
behaviour will find his job easier. Being aware of individual personality will help me to
analyse any critical situation in the workplace.
2. Personal Values
Sometimes during our work schedule, there might be various problems as well as
opportunities that may arise and this might exceed the time of our lists that comprise “things
to do” (Paadi, 2014). During the process of our work there may exist only little things that we
must value and lots of time get wasted when we put our focus on things that need to be least
prioritized. Therefore we must lay focus on values and try to accomplish those objectives that
are required to be given importance at first.
3. Personal Needs
Theories associated with Maslow Hierarchies emphasize up on identification of various
psychological necessities that usually control our requirements towards achieving esteem,
belongingness, and self-actualization, affection and controlling power. On being aware of

these personal needs it helps to exert a strongest influence up on a person’s behaviours and
therefore it helps one to be aware of his or her interpersonal relationships. Sometimes when a
person’s need for elevated status or position gets affected due to less motivation and
sometimes give rise to frustration or stress (Ritter et al. 2018).
4. Self-awareness towards controlling emotions
This particular topic become one of the most important point towards achieving Emotional
Intelligence. A person who can understand his own feelings, stimuli that give rise to those
emotions and their impact on the processes of our thoughts and performing certain activities
by taking into account those emotions is known as self-awareness towards controlling
emotions (Sosik and Jung, 2018). A person with high level of emotional self-awareness can
understand various internal processes that are mostly in relation with experiences towards
those emotions and can easily control over them.
Conclusion
Therefore from the above discussion it can be concluded that personal management is the
most important factor that would help a person to develop self-awareness within himself and
this would help the person to develop confidence in himself. This would further help him to
meet various challenges in the organization and handle most of them with utmost expertise
and intelligence. This would also in help other individuals working in the organization to
receive motivation from that person and this would help the business expansion as well as
growth.
