INTRODUCTION
Health and social care is an important part of economy which has achieved wide growth
and development in past several years (Health and Social Care,2017). Individuals and
professionals working in health care sector also possess various roles and responsibilities which
they need to accomplish effectively. A personal value of these professionals also plays an
important role in their ways of providing treatment to patients (Munn-Giddings and Winter,
2013). Present assignment is based on case study that reflects situation of Mr. Golden Kelvin as
Heath Care Assistant having strong religious values towards same sex marriages. This report will
provide an understanding between different aspects in context health and social care.
TASK 1
1.1 personal values and principles with the principles of support for working in the health and
social care
Personal development in H&S sector is a very crucial task for individuals as they need to
handle various important situations which are sometimes against their personal values. As per the
given scenario, Mr. Golden Kelvin belongs to Yoruba culture and resident England from last 20
years. It is also having a strong religious thinking towards same sex marriages. After
completion of training as health care assistant in London, his company provided him task to
work with a female client who lives with a partner of same sex (Blais and et.al, 2015). As per
the law, professional needs to consider principles of H&S Care while working with different
individuals at workplace.
Personal ethics involve religious and culture beliefs of Mr. Golden Kelvin. It is not possible that
all people and workers will be have same culture. Principles of support always determine that
each and every patients need to be considered and treated equally without making discrimination
on cultural and religious backgrounds (Redmond, 2017).
A personal value usually deals with thinking and perception of professionals working in
healthcare sector. It affects the way of providing treatment to patients. Principles of health and
social care states that equal rights needs to be provided to patients by Mr. Golden Kelvin In
accordance with critical thinking, Self-direction is important so that professional will be able to
take case based decisions effectively (Petty, Cross and Stew, 2012).

As per principle, it is essential for Mr. Kelvin to maintain a formal attitude in teamwork and
working with the female client in order to sustain discipline in health and social care.
In addition, Confidentiality is also required to be maintained by Kelvin so that the ethical
parameters will have no impact on his operational activities. There should not be any
discrimination on the basis of religion or culture (Antheunis, Tates and Nieboer, 2013). These
values should remain aside while working with diversified people having different values and
beliefs in order to maintain discipline and providing proper health care facilities.
1.2 Personal culture and experience may influence role of health care assistant.
Personal values refer to dignity, creativity, and attitude of care, courage and
independence. Perception of every worker can be different from each other and can be different
in values. Personal culture and knowledge also plays an important role in analysis of attitude
of health care professional. In this context, Kelvin belongs to Yoruba culture and his parents
were Christian missionaries so he has strong religious beliefs towards same sex marriages which
affect his decisions and attitude while working with a female patient having same sex partner
(Knott and Scragg, 2016).
As healthcare assistant in care home, Kelvin is responsible to take care of female client
and also ensures to give proper and effective services. Kelvin needs to ensure that proper
treatment will be provide to female client because being a health care assistant, he needs to take
care of her and this will be a routine work to accomplish these activities.
In addition, culture and experience also affects attitude of individual towards patients
such as non-proper communication, lack of proper understanding and lack of problems
recognition. Further, social perception of Kelvin creates feeling of discrimination for female
client. As an experienced healthcare professional, Kelvin needs to understand that proper
treatment is the right of every individual therefore he is required to render equal treatment.
In accordance with healthcare principles, Professionals are required to maintain dignity
and discipline at workplace in order to deal with individuals of various culture and values
(Grajales and et.al, 2014). For instance, when a doctor is having religious perception towards a
community and his patient belongs to same community, then his attitude towards him is required
to remain positive rather than aggressive.

1.3 Impact of new developments and changes to personal values on work in care settings
As per the given scenario, new developments and amendments in personal values of an
individual provide major influence on the work of Kelvin in care home. Study states that any
type of alteration whether in behaviour, technological, values and beliefs have a major impact on
the processing of tasks a. In this context, company has assigned Kelvin to deal with a
female client and is required of him to adopt changes and also to learn new things at workplace
because these important aspects will provide support in refining skills.
In addition to this, changes in personal values provide ability to Kelvin to resolve
problems. Effective communication will be maintained in order to resolve previous discrepancies
(Rutherford and eta.l, 2012). Further, Kelvin will also be able to mitigate risk of uncertainties
from care home. These are the important aspects that will assist Kelvin in protecting and
providing valuable services to client coming for their treatment at health and social care. There
are some specific laws and regulations which can impact on personal values of professionals
such as Health and Safety Act, Equality Act and Data Protection Act, which are important for
overall development and ensures effective and fair work to care patients having similar sex
partner at workplace.

3.1 Nature of different professional relationships that Mr. Golden Kelvin will encounter in his
role of personal care assistant.
Professional relationship is analysed as specific process through which Kelvin used to
create relationship with other colleagues, clients and family members of the clients, service care
authorities with other colleagues, clients, family members of the client such as care authorities
related with the health and social care units in order to have effective coordination with clients
for regulation of smooth operational activities (Mc Kee and Eraut, 2012). Further, there are
various important professional relationship in context health and social care such as: Relationship with patients: As a health care assistant, it is the responsibility of Kelvin
to create a positive relationship with the clients so that it could share issues in
appropriate manner. With effect of this, they will share situation in appropriate version
so that it will become easy to provide them treatments (Weare, 2013). It will also
beneficial in analysis of needs and wants of patients so that treatments can be modified

as per their effective requirement of getting participation from the side of patients. It
also assists kelvin observing activities of clients and helps in rendering proper treatment.
Relationship with staff: While working in care home, Kelvin is required to maintain
effective level of relationship with its colleagues or team members because they will
render their adequate support with an aim of executing the activities in appropriate
manner (Grant and Kinman, 2012). Further. They will also share their work load and
provide their proper support while rendering service to the patients. It is essential to
respect them because it helps in creation of positive and appropriate relationship with
them. Relation with supervisor: These are analysed as professional at workplace who resides
at upper level in hierarchy of management. They always provide effective level of
support in executing the task and also providing new ways or techniques in order to
process the tasks in effective manner (Alsop, 2013). It is essential for kelvin to create
health and effective relationship with superiors in care home in order to take guidance for
dealing with the critical situations.
Relationship with partners: As per the case scenario, Kelvin has strong religious and
cultural values towards same sex marriages and management has provided him task of
dealing with female client who is married with same sex partner. As per rules and
regulations of government in accordance with health and social care, health care
professional are required to communicate all the information to family members of
patients while providing treatment (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association,
2016). In this case, Kelvin needs to positively communicate with her client's partners and
provide information about the treatment provided to her in health and social care.
3.2Evaluate Personal effectiveness in promoting and supporting the right of the individual.
Personal effectiveness analysed as significant aspect which is recognised for the
promotion of individual rights and providing support to individuals in offering them the equal
respect. In accordance with this, Kelvin needs to plan that equal respects to the service provider
and users in appropriate manner. Moreover, confidentiality can strongly be maintained by
Kelvin in order to maintain ethical code of conduct in accordance with the unit of H&S care.
Making an effective use of talents and abilities in order to attain some specific objective is
analysed as personal effectiveness of Kelvin (Marek, Schaufeli and Maslach, 2017). Kelvin's

at workplace have been discussed. In HSC sector rights of service users and operational

will be effective for kelvin to create confidence in personal and also in the clients whom kelvin
needs to communicate within enterprise.
Apart from this, there are various rights of employee that needs to be provided them by
organisation to them through the process of line managers to each and every employees at
workplace for example; Kelvin has the right to speak in this matter if he faces any problem in
providing treatment or does not need to work female client (Hamm and et.al, 2013). Employees
are also had potential to react on kind of unacceptable activity at workplace.
Human rights are essential rights and important freedom that usually belongs to every
individuals that usually relates with every individual with the world. In UK, these important
provisions are compiled by government in human right act 1998. In clear states that, Kelvin
should offer trust worthiness, reliable performance and also act upon dependency so that the
service users and other service providers can be also feel strong values which is offered to them
and they will also be able to main effective values which are offered to them and also achieve
competencies to maintain strong collaboration with these clients in order to meet human rights
and also accomplish the objectives within enterprise within appropriate manner. In this
professional task, it is essential for Kelvin to understand the requirement female client and
collaborate effectively in order to achieve support in resolution of problems.
There are various other important points that needs to be considered by top management
or the line manager in order to deal with or save interest of staff. However, development of
personal effectiveness tends to provide support to Kelvin to his role and responsibilities
effectively.
3.3 Various ways that Mr. Kelvin may adopt for resolving issues encountered in his
professional context.
As per the given scenario, whenever, there are some chances of conflicts but is essential
to resolve the conflicts. There are various conflicts that will arise when there are some confusion
in the roles and responsibilities (Griffiths and et.al., 2012). In health and social care, it is
important to deal with patients and other professional in some situation when they create

problematic situations. Therefore in to avoid these situations, it is required for Kelvin to
maintain proper distance with clients. Further, there are various important ways have been
determined through which the proper communication channels can be developed by Kelvin.
Effective communication channels should be used by Kelvin to deal with patients such as
reports, sign language and other methods because most of the conflicts arise between individuals
will deal with the personal and professional context (Petty, Cross and Stew, 2012). Family
members of clients will never get satisfied with services which are rendered by the professionals
and also make extra requirements. These kinds of situation often create conflicts between users
and Kelvin and also tends to hamper relationship with them. With an aim of avoiding the
conflict situation, it is essential to deal with over implies rules and regulations of the health and
social care so that they will remain patient.
Mediation is also analysed as important way which can also be adopted by Kelvin to deal
with critical situation at workplace that often arise with co workers and supporting staff in care
home. It usually involves intervention of third party who is independent and does not have
relationship with both the parties. Each party will be allowed to present their important points
and situation in front of mediator (Knott and Scragg, 2016). Further, mediator is required to
respected by both the parties and their decision will accept by other parties and their decisions
will not be accepted by every one. Mediator plays important role in influence both the parties to
make compromise that will create win -win situation.
In addition to this, supervisor involvement is also required in some situation in health care
settings to resolve problems. In case, if Kelvin face any problem while working with female
client and his partner, then can also provide information to his superior so that they will tend to
resolve issues through their experience from previous situations. Members in organisation can
also make committee to resolve critical situations and communicate with both parties together to
resolve conflicts.
CONCLUSION
In this report, it is concluded that personal and professional development in health and
social is an important activity which related with attaining effective skills and qualified to
provide health care service to patients. Cultural values and ethics are important for individual but
it is essential that they will be applied at workplace. Personal values of different individuals in
health and social care is different because they usually have different cultures and experience.
