INTRODUCTION
Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the
achievement of a goal. Leadership stems from social influence, not authority or power. This
report contains issues such as role of leadership and theories of leadership (Ramia and et.al.,
2016).
TASK
Role of leadership in Amazon
Concise-
The CEO that is Jeff Bezos has made his own rules and works on the basis of his own
style. Changes are made by him so that level of productivity and innovation in the company can
be maximized. For instance in any meetings of the company power point presentations are not
allowed it is because they work with a different approach which states that if there are no
presentations then the members in the team and employees present in the meeting will come up
with new ways and ideas.
Decision Making-
The leadership of Amazon is led by Jeff bezos and it is a bit different as they provide
their employees with the autonomy which means that they are allowed to take decisions of their
own project on their own without any restrictions. They believe that if teams are made with more
employees then they will tend to engage in conflicts that is why they keep things clear and this
way employees develop their path of career on their own (Vetere and Stratton, 2016).
External Factors-
Company analyzes the external environment constantly so that all the measures which
can affect the business of the company can be assessed. This way they will be able to assess any
opportunity that is in their way. The focus of the company is on improving the aspect of artificial
intelligence and explores more to it. They believe that it is the future of this sector this is why
they have introduced Alexa which runs totally on artificial intelligence.

Promotional Activities-
Bezos invests a lot in the area of promotion activities because they want to keep up with
the level of competition. Other than this leader of the company also looks after internal activities
of promotion which is to promote the employees on the basis of their performance and efforts
made by them. On the basis of the results obtained leaders make the decision that who deserves
the promotion.
Approach and tie up only with the best-
Company believes that there reason of success is leadership and that is because it is the
CEO of the company who has made the culture of the company. They look out for people who
have skills and talent for the job so that they can help the company to achieve their goals and
objectives. They have employed many people on the basis of this approach and make them the
head of their department because of their performance. They are flexible because it is in the
culture of the company to provide autonomy to the employees (Kroll and Dussias, 2017).
Embrace Failure-
The CEO of the company believes that employees must come ahead and accept their
mistakes so that with the help of guidance of other members of the team they can make things
right. They will be given full assistance so that they do not lose their confidence and learn to deal
with their problems. They are given instruction with the task assigned to them which states that it
is necessary to evaluate the level of involvement of risk and on the basis of that strategies needs
to be formed so that chances of failure are less.
Patience-
One of the things that Amazon lists in their success is patience because when Bezos
started this business everyone was not friendly with the idea of buying things online. This was
because everyone was comfortable with personal touch but with time and patience they began to
accept the services of Amazon (Hildebrand, 2018).

Jeff Bezos always put the customer first because the culture of the company is customer
oriented. They are known for providing the best experience to customers. This way customers of
the company becomes the promoters of the brand and it helps the company to increase their share
in the market.
Vision-
All the employees of the company are guided on the basis of vision so that they work on
the basis of it. The logo of the company is A to Z which means customers can find anything from
A to Z and this is what they are guide to work on.
Theory of leadership-
On the basis of the assessment the characteristics of Jeff Bezos states that the style of
leadership followed by him is transformational leadership. Company believes that this style is
one of the crucial reasons that they are able to attain their position in the market. It is because of
this that they have keep up with their duties for customers and responsibilities for suppliers. The
more effectively it is used more they will be able to evolve their team and other employees so
that they can work with their full efforts and achieve more. There are different measures through
which leaders are qualified under different category and on the basis of analysis Bezos has been
classified in the category of this style. It is in the nature of these types of leaders to motivate
them so that they can boost their confidence and goals can be obtained easily (Gorbunova and
Sabirova, 2017.).

From the above studies it has been concluded that the culture of the company is convenient as
autonomy is provided to the employees who also improves the power of employee retention.
Also the style of leadership used by the leader is transformational which is why the culture of the
company is customer oriented.
