INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development refers to the development or growth of an
individual at the workplace and also other than the workstations. The aim and objective of this
development plan is to help in managing the learning of the employees at the workplace and also
the learning of an individual at some other place. This project report lays its emphasis on the
approaches that an employee is required to follow at the workplace and also to do their
evaluation at the workplace in respect of whether these approaches are favourable or not for the
employees working over there. The assignment further, lays its emphasis on the ways that should
be encouraged in the learning process along with the benefits of the self-managed learning. The
project further, lays its emphasis on the skills and the competencies that are required to fight
against and to do the evaluation of the professional standards and the objective that are set by the
organisation. Here, the organisation is Travelodge. It is a private company in the hospitality
industry. As an assistant manager, I along with my staff members required to perform, better in
the organisation with the help of development programme.
TASK 1
1.1 Evaluation of approaches to self-managed learning
Self-managed learning is a process with the help of which an individual takes the initiative to
do something new and creative (Ariza-Montes and et.al., 2017). Here, the individual at
Travelodge are, motivated and forced through his will to take some new steps for the
achievement of his desired objective. This process also includes the development of individual
through the approaches that are adopted by an individual and also on the ways of working in the
organisation. Here, prioritizing of the short-term goals is considered to be most important.
Prioritizing is just in the respect of what is required to be executed at first. Following are the
approaches that are required to be used self-managed learning: -
Seminar And Conferences: - It is the first and foremost approach which is required to be
followed for bringing improvement in it and for making an individual completely fit in respect
of creating new ideas and gaining new experiences. It focuses on the learning techniques and
experiences of other people in the corporate sector.
Internet: - It is the very crucial tool that plays a very important role in the self-learning of an
individual. Through internet an individual at Travelodge, gets in touch with the various sources

offering the individual a platform where, by working an individual can take experience from the
various personalities that belong to corporate world. It is helpful in the self managed learning
because, increasing range of the social networks helps in gathering knowledge from the wide
range of people who are around us. The more an individual will be involved and interactive
with different types of personalities whether from corporates or from somewhere else the more
knowledge he would be having by working with them.
In my point of view, seminars and conferences can prove to be the best approach for the
self managed learning in the Hotel. Because, it will help me in getting interacted with more and
more of people and also it would be helpful in learning a lot of new things in the hotel
Travelodge. Self manage learning refers to achieve learning; through personal experience and
efforts.

help to be more confident in the respect of those policies and the strategies, that he would
be planning to implement at Travelodge. As an assistant manager of Travel Lodge, it
would be easy for me to get familiar with my weaknesses that are playing the role of

Handling The Complaints Of The Employees:- As an assistant manager I used to handle
the complaints of the customer and to resolve them and because of this, I was familiar
with all the employees and the staff members. Because of this, I was comfortable in
listening to their grievances.

necessary. Following are the skills that are required to fulfil the role of assistant manager of
hotel: - Leadership Skills: - The assistant manager of the Travel Lodge Hotel must have these
skills in order to fulfil the requirement of the desired post. The manger is required to
troubleshoot all the problems, that are arising at the workplace. He is usually in charge of
the handling all the tasks that are assigned to him when the manager or the boss is not
available in the hotel (Lunenberg and et.al., 2017). I am resolving the problem of the
entire team members and guiding them to attain the organisational goal. This is my core
skill.
Communication Skills: - The assistant manager should be nimble/skilled in
communicating with the guests that are arriving in the Travel Lodge irrespective of any
motive or the purpose. Communication skills plays a very crucial role in the hotel
industry. The assistant manager should be familiar and should also have command over
five to seven languages with the motive of attracting more and more customers at the
hotel. I am able to communicate within the organisation in an effective manner. I feel
that, my communication skill is really good in Travelodge. I take formal and informal
that are working under him. It includes organising the team scheduling and handling the
queries of staff members.

3.1 Process and activities required to implement development plan
Training: - In order to improve the communication skills, training is the best and
effective method. For the implementation of the assigned tasks in effective and efficient manner,
training helps an individual to learn the ways in which the assigned tasks and goals can be
accomplished successfully (Swennen, 2017).
Process of Training:-
In the first step, to assess the needs for training to the employee in which basic needs are
identified. In this case, communication skills needs to be improved, therefore, training is

my set of skills and my own interpersonal capabilities with the motive of attaining the desired
