INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development both are different terms because personal
development refers to develop skills and attributes for personal benefits (Eichenberger, 2017).
Whereas professional development is refers to develop skills and behaviour in their professions.
Both are very necessary for development of person's career because it plays a very important role
in career growth of students. Every person has goals that they divide into timescale so that they
can achieve them effectively. Person can be categorized their goals and targets into three
categories that are short, medium, long term goals. In this report, it covers a personal
development plan that helps to complete or achieve the targets effectively.

Concept of personal and professional development
Professional development is the term in which person is developing skills and knowledge
that helps to understand the job and improve their performance accordingly. Professional
development really helpful in accomplishing goals and objectives of particular job roles and
responsibilities (Briceland and et. al). In nowadays organisation need talented employees that are
multitasking, having skills that helps to perform job effectively and efficiently. So for employees
it becomes necessary that they develop some important skills that make them different from
others and treated as talented employees. Professional development can be done with the help of
classroom based learnings, coaching, mentoring, etc.
Personal development is the term that refers to develop skills and knowledge for their
personality. It is beneficial for in and out of workplace. Personal development is very necessary
for organisation that they get talented employees who have skills and talents to manage
themselves and organisation functions. Personal development is the activity in which person try
to improve their existing skills and generate new skills that is helpful for organisation as well as
their personality. It is life long process in which people try to maximize their potential. It can be
start after few months of birth of the child. Firstly they learn from their parents and then from
schools. After facing situations they gained some experience in which they learn many skills and
knowledge that helps in their career growth. Because personal development is very basic and
necessary for each and every child.

Both are interlinked with each other because personal and professional development
necessary for career growth. Without personal and professional development, no single person
can achieve their targets in organisation and does not perform well in organisation (PLACE).
Discussion of short term goals with examples
When person is divide their goals into timescale then they firstly make short term goals
which have small period of time. Short term goals taking less than 2 months. It is prepare for
accomplishment of vision of person. Their vision can only be accomplish with the met of short
term goals. Short term goals helps to divide the task into small things so that person can not
depressed and enjoy and after certain period of time they are feeling exhausting. Short term goals
necessary for attaining long term goals because it sets some roadmap in which person develop
their sets of goals for short time period. It is very helpful when person wants to big change in
their life so they should be make their short term goals (Randall, Edelman and Galliers, 2017).
For example, if a person wants to become government officer then they preparing for exams
from their schools so that they make short term goals that helps to complete their full course. It is
very effective because when a person wants to achieve big and something that they change in
their attitude then they make short term goals so that they can achieve step by step and does not
depressed. For example of a person gets a order that they make 5000 of cookies in 5 days, it
becomes very tough for that person because it looks like very hard. But if the person divide into
small targets that they make 1000 cookies in a single day then they can achieve their days.
Process of short term goals is very effective because person enjoys their targets and they feel that
they achieve something that helps to encourage for next task and project.
In nowadays organisation also make some short term goals for employees so that they
can complete them within time and organisations vision can achieve them. Every organisation
have some vision that they want to become something in future but they bifurcated into mission
and then into objectives so that they can ultimately achieve their desired goals and targets. Short
term goals should be relevant and achievable so that individual in a position that they achieve
them. It becomes more effective when individual get some rewards so that they can motivate or
encourage towards their next goals and targets (Yu and et. al., 2020). For example, a individual
set that they complete their course in 3 months and the person divide their full course into small
parts as person complete each unit in 6 days. It will become effective when person get some
rewards so that individual set that after 6 days he will go for a break of 1 day so that person get

energies and feels relax and get more concentrated on their next achievement. In that way it
becomes more interesting.
Discussion of medium term goals with examples
Medium term goals refers to set the goals and targets in which time period is two moths
to three years. It is analysed that medium term goals are the next step of attaining long term
goals. They are very necessary for individuals because for attaining long term goals they should
be give their continuous efforts in their performances so that they can achieve them effectively
and efficiently. Medium term goals are necessary for achievement of long term goals. Sometime
if individuals have not long term goals then they have short term goals that they should be
completed. Every person has own sets of priority and gaols that are divide in their time goals.
For example, a person who takes a course for taking exams that takes 2.5 years then it become
the medium term goals. It is beneficial for individual when the person wants to accomplish their
goals and targets in 6 months to 3 years. There is one more effective example that help to give
clear information about medium term goals (Machin and Nielsen, 2019). For example, a person
who is looking for permanent job so how it accomplish that. It can be accomplish through
finding jobs according to their skills and knowledge through various websites or agencies. A
person finds a job that suits their skills and knowledge and most importantly it should be match
with their interest. During this process, a person can build their experience through improve their
skills and knowledge in existing job. Person can also improve their skills and knowledge through
taking lectures or study or they can improve their skills through on the job method until he get a
job. After training and development of their personal and professional skills he should apply for
a job. It takes generally 2 to 3 years that becomes medium term goals.
It is very effective if the person get rewards and recognition after completing their task
and goals. Because it is very important for person that they continuously get some rewards and
recognition. It is act like a base for accomplishment of long term goals. It build a gap between
current position of people and want to become different in future.
Discussion of long term goals with examples
Long term goals are very important targets and goals because they decide the position of
person and their vision. Long term goals take more time as compared to short term and medium
term. It generally takes more than 3 years (Okolie, 2018). It can be established for achieving
their ultimate target that actually want by person in their future. For example, a person who want

to buy a luxurious car then he should be make more and more efforts in their career or business
so that he able to purchase that car. Long term goals become more difficult if they can not be
divide into short term and medium term. Because person feel tired to accomplish their long term
goals. Generally it is seen that almost all person is not able to achieve their long term goals, only
because of their low morale. Long term goals is very necessary for their brighter future but they
should be systematically analysed and then make plan for achieving their goals (Winters and et.
al., 2018).
For example, a organisation who wants to become one of the organisations that use only
renewable resources that reduce the waste and sustainably grow. So their long term goal is that
they make their products sustainable so that it can not harm people and society. It is very
important for their career that they make their long term goals so that they become good human
being. There is one more example i.e. a person that start their own business and wants to become
successful so it is not the act of 1 day activity or 1 year. It takes time that can be clearly shown in
individuals life. Long term goals define the individual and organisational vision.
Discuss the value of Personal Development Plan
Personal development plan is the process in which person can establish their action plan
that what they want to do and how to do. It is also known as individual development plan in
which person set some objectives that they want to achieve (Kangas, 2018)
. In this plan, individuals make some action plan that they implement to accomplish their
objectives. With the help of personal development plan a person is get more clear that what they
want to improve in their skills and knowledge so that they can accomplish their targets easily. It
is made for self improvement.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from above discussion that personal and professional terms are different
from their meaning but both are important for their personality as well as organisation. It is very
clear that individual divide their goals and targets into three categories such as short term,
medium term and long term goal. They all are very necessary for individual's career growth and
success. It is analysed from this report that all goals are bifurcated on the basis of time and they
all are very important, it plays significant role in their career.
