INTRODUCTION
Personal development refers to various activities which helps a persona in developing their
capabilities as well potential to build capital, opportunity for employment as well as increase
quality of their life (Green, 2016). Personal development in an individual’s life occur throughout
their entire life. This personal development assists a person to assess their qualities and skills for
purpose of attainment of goal to life. To this development a person to need to develop various set
of skills which is important for their career and life. This project report includes personal
development as well as professional development, It also include value of short term goal,
medium term goal, long term goals as well as discussion of value of personal development plan.
MAIN BODY
1. Definition of concept of personal as well as professional development
Personal development: Personal development refers to a process in which people assess their
skills as well as qualities to set their as well as goal in order to maximise their potential. These
activities help an individual in developing personal capabilities as well as potential for realisation
of their dream (Hsu, Lee and Chen, 2017). This personal development is a lifelong process as it
takes plan in entire life of an individual. This development includes various formal as well as
informal activities. There are various people who plays important role in personal development
including family, teacher, manager, coach and many more. Personal development plays
important life in an individua’s life as it helps them to attain their personal goals and also provide
various opportunities in life. These helps them to realise their full potential to get success in life.
This personal development provides clear vision to an individual for which they put efforts. It
also improves their existing skills and identify their potential. These personal developments also
help in developing motivation in life of individual and increase their satisfaction level in life.
Professional development: Professional development refers to process of training, education as
well as certification which improve skills on an individual and provide them opportunity to
succeed in their career (Lejeune, Beausaert and Raemdonck, 2018). There are different types of
job which require varies skills. Even if an individual possesses current skills, they many need
extra setoff skills in future period of time. These professional development skills allow an
individual to become more effective as well as efficient to perform a task. This professional
development helps a person in expanding their knowledge criteria. It helps to increase

confidence level of a person and enhance credibility of person. It increases networking
opportunity to a person as it allows a person to build relationship with another person. It also
provides various career opportunity to a person in future. These professional skills include
communication skills, internal assessment, management training, conflict resolution and many
more. These skills make a person to be update as per industry trends. These personal
developments can be done through training which provide career growth to a person. It also can
be done through building timeline which allow them to build various skills and capabilities.
2. Discussion of value of short-term goals with example
Short term goals are those which can be attained in near future within shot period of time. These
short-term goals assist a person in getting career opportunity (Miao, 2016). These goals can be
attained by a person within few months as well as in few weeks. These goals act a bridge which
reduce gap between present position of a person and their future position they want to achieve.
These goals are easy as well as simple in to attain. These goals do not require long term
commitment and create momentum for a person. These assist a person to keep their motivation
level high and boost confidence in person as it helps them to feel success. Example of short-term
goals which helps an individual to attain in less time are as follows:
Knowledge of computer: Computer knowledge is essential for an individual as it does not only
improve professional skills of a person but also provide them various career opportunity. To
improve computer knowledge, individual can join various degree courses from recognised
institution. Computer knowledge make learning of a person effective as they can learn various
things from online courses. It can improve by practical as theoretical knowledge in computer is
not enough, it can be improving by practical learning. It improves productivity of an individual
as well as for business for whom they are working.
Typing and writing skills: One of short-term goals of an individual is to improve their typing as
well as writing skills. This skill assist individual to writer quickly as well as fluently which
improve their typing speed (Osgerby, Marriott and Gee, 2018). This skill also helps students to
complete their assignment on time before deadline of project. It also helps them in increasing
their productivity as they can complete their work in less time. This will improve their writing
skills which provide them career opportunity in various fields.
Communication skills: Communication skills are those which allow a person to share their
views, ideas, thoughts with another person. This will allow a person to effectively deliver

Medium term goals refer to those which reduce gap between long term vision and present
position of a person (Preston and Fraser-Thomas, 2018). These goals can be attaining between
one to five years and assist an individual or a company to attain their objectives. These medium-
term goals work as a basis for attainment of long-term goals for a person. Example of medium-
term goals of person are as follows:
Enhance knowledge and learning: Medium term goals of a person can be enhancement of
knowledge as well as learning which improve their skills. These knowledge and learning are
important for an individual as develop various skills in them and also provide them career
opportunity. As companies hire individual on basis of their knowledge and learning, so it is
important got enhance learning and knowledge of an individual.
Attend interview: Attend interview is important for a person as it helps them in understand how
to face interviews. It will boost confidence in an individual as well as also enhance their
competencies. It will also develop communication skills of individual as while attending
interview they need to answer question of individuals. These are important for future of a person
as attending interview make them efficient in giving interviews which are important in

Build network with talented individuals: Another medium-term goal is built network with
talented people which is important for getting more career opportunities to build good career in
future. This network provides information of vacancy of job and also provide appropriate

Long term goals are those goals which can be achieve within 10 years to life of a person. These
goals are related to future as it is future oriented (Rihacek and Roubal, 2017). These goals are
important goals for any person as it is related to their career as well as life. It helps to develop
professional skills within an individual life. To attain these skills, proper time is needs by a
person. Example of long-term goals are as follows:
Work in recognised organisation: Long term goal of an individual is to work in a recognised
multinational organisation. As it provides various perks and benefit with job opportunity and also
provide boost to career. It helps to satisfy various personal goals of a person and also provide
recognition in society. To attained this type of long-term goal, individual need to develop various
professional skills. They also need to enhance their knowledge and learning to get this type of
job in multinational organisation.
Financial stability: Financial stability is another long-term goal for which an individual put
effort in their entire life. Financial stability can be acquired through getting right salary which
can be provided in recognised organisation. Financial stability of a person is important for
satisfaction of various personal needs of a person. As there are various responsibility on a person
and to fulfil these responsibilities, they need to be financial stability. It also improves their living
standard.
Good career growth: Career growth is another long-term goal as to get career growth an
