INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is an activity by which a company and people involve in
a procedure of learning to accomplish the desire goals and challenges. It can be an activity of
making improvement in the skills and knowledge of people so that they can perform their roles
and responsibilities in more appropriate manner (Sergeeva and et. al., 2018). The development
of individual at personal and professional level is crucial because it help in administrating their
learning and development throughout their career. It is essential that people can continue to learn
and improve to maintain their competencies and knowledge update and make sure that they do
their work properly and effectively. This assignment will discuss about development of different
skills and competencies that are effective for personal and professional development of people.
TASK 2
By making improvement and development in the skills and knowledge, a person and
employee can do their work in effective manner and accomplish set objective and perform a task
in crucial way. To perform their work and task in effective manner, the development of different
skills like communication, problem solving and decision making is crucial. Because if a person
has good communication skills then individual can share and communicate effective information
in term of written and verbal form due to have effective written and verbal skills of
communication. Apart from it, good problem solving skill is also crucial for people because with
the assistance of it, personnel can deal with the issues and challenge that are occurred in their
work. For example, if a person perform in a task and totally responsible for his work. With the
help of effective problem solving skill employee can get over the issues that occurred in their
work. Efficacious decision making skills enable in considering and taking effective and right
decision during facing different problems in a particular task.
By making improvement in basic skills like communication, decision making and
problem solving employees of an organisation can make development and attain their desired
success and growth (Choy and Chua, 2019). For the effective understanding of making
development in the skills to personal and professional development, the description of Gibbs
reflective cycle is mentioned here.

This model is developed by Graham Gibbs to motivate people who think systematically
about the experiences they had in a particular situation, event or activity. Using a cycle,
reflection on those experiences can be framed in stages which often make individuals think
regarding an experience, activity and event briefly. Making them aware of their own activities
and better capability to adjust and alter their behaviour (Rubens and et. al., 2018). By looking at
both favourable and negative impacts of activity, individual can learn from it. This cycle contains
different phases and the explanation of each stage is as under:
Description- It is the first step of this concept in which the situation is defined that is
occurred in an event, activity briefly without making any conclusion. In this the people can
define the condition in form of what happened, when, where and who were involved in that
situation or the main cause of arising that situation. In this phase, people analyse important
details like why other individuals were engaged in the situation, all the data that is key to better
understanding the situation in relevant. For example, employees are performing in a situation and
task of a company “to maximise sales”. Then, in it, workforce analyse the firm’s background in
detailed manner and the cause due to which sales of the company is minimising.
Feelings- It is another stage that is about feelings that the specific activity activated and
what people’s thoughts were at the time of event, activity and situation. This phase the awareness
about the situation and that activity is the most crucial goal. For example, if a person performed
in an activity then, this phase considers feeling, work and determination of the person after of
before performing in the task. Because individual often have complex talking about their feeling,
it assist that they are motivated by the questions or someone asking other questions. For instant,
by considering situation of first phase, employees analysing their feeling regarding the situation
so that they can do their work in effective manner by considering their feelings.
Evaluation- In this phase the person, make evaluation of its performance that performs well not.
It is a crucial phase because employees determine and evaluate their task that use their effective
skills and knowledge for executing a particular task (Tardy and Smithson, 2018). They measure
their skills that they are crucial for the work and activity. For instant, they make evaluation of
information that is transfer by them to other by using their communication skills like verbal and
written. In this phase, they also analyse their bad experiences because the subsequent phases of
this cycle assist personnel learn from it. As per including situation of description phase,

employees will use problem solving and decision making so that they can make contribution in
developing and improving the situation of reduction of sales.
Analysis- This phase is about what the person has learned from the task, work, and situation. It
means they gain positive and negative experience or make development in their skills like
communication, problem solving, decision making and employability skills such as reading,
selecting, analysing and synthesising etc. People learn from mistakes and experiences so this
stage, the employees analysing and synthesising abilities to evaluating their work that
accomplish their set objective in effective manner or how are they successfully accomplish their
goals (Cheon and et. al., 2018). For instant, the employees analyse their skills in term developing
sales of the company that they effectively use their decision making skill by taking accurate
decision of increasing sales.
Conclusion- This is the phase in which people take a step back and look themselves from a
distance and analyse what else they could have done in this task and situation. The data which is
collected earlier is very valuable in this phase and can empower people to come to good and
effective summarisation. In this stage, the employee determine their positive and negative
experience, what different they do in the task and which skills they required to develop
themselves in that activity. For example, the people summarise that by utilising their appropriate
skills they improve the sales of not. If they got success in it, they feel encourage and complete
their work in more effective manner.
Action plan- This is the final phase, in it, actions and plans are framed for upcoming time
situations, events and task. They make consideration from conclusion by determining their
experiences that everything went good of fine then they work in similar or by using same
strategies and skills. In that areas where something went wrong they make plan and strategies or
use effective plan of actions so that they make perform in effective manner and make
development in their skills and gain or earn good experiences. For example, in this phase, the
worker who make their contribution in overcoming the situation of maximisation sales of the
company, analyse their strategies that are used by them so that if they situation effective get over
then they can use them in future (Hauptmann and Reeves, 2018). Otherwise if they are not
successful in it, they formulate new plans and plan of action.
From the above information it can be analyse that this model can be used in different
situation and activities or effective to evaluate it. This cycle is utilised to develop understanding

and proof of practice based learning. With the help of employees and individual can make
development in their skills when they implement this concept in context if a particular situation
and activity or during the time of working in a task to do their in improved manner. This activity
needs that in look below the surface of acts and experiences to accomplish deep extents of
understanding or learning.
CONCLUSION
This has been concluded from the preceding define information that by making development
in skills, abilities, competencies and knowledge people and employees can make improvement in
their personal and professional extent. By improving their different skills like communication,
reading, analysing, decision making and many more they can do their work perform in crucial
way. Gibbs reflective cycle is an effective model that is crucial for improving employees
working ability and skills when they are working in a specific situation or task of a company.
Apart from it personal and professional development is essential for the career growth and
development of individuals because by updating their basic competencies.
