Introduction
Academic skills are important skills for a person which is important for career growth
and success of a person (Titchmarsh, 2019). These skills help in personal as well as
professional development of a person. These skills are important for attainment of
career goals and success. There are different types of goals including long, short
and medium term goals which can be differentiated on basis of their time and focus.
This project report includes discussion of personal development as well as
professional development which are important for career success of a person. It also
includes various short term, long term, medium term goals along with personal
example. This report also includes personal development plan of a person as per
skills required by them.
MAIN BODY
Definition of personal as well as professional development
Personal Development: Personal development is a process which helps to
evaluate goals or skills of an individual (Ryba and Nolan, 2018). It helps a person to
be take change and proactive for their action. It is not necessary for a person to
always reach to their objectives but they are fulfilled if purpose of these is fulfilled.
Personal development helps a person in providing satisfaction and also provide
success in their life. Personal development can be attained with self-improvement in
skills. There are various traits and skills which ca person get through training as well
as education process. Personal development can take place in life long time which
helps them in developing various skills and leaning. Personal development is
important for a person for various reason which are as follows:
Provide clarity to vision: Personal development provide long term vision to
a person and also provide them clarity related to their goals. It is important for
a person to set targets in their life whch helps them to attainment of those
objective.
Improving existing skills: Personal development helps a person in
improving various skills which helps a person in getting various opportunities
in their life. A person learns various new things from their mistake and also
helps to overcome of various challenges occur in their life.

Drive motivation as well as satisfaction: Personal development empower a
person which helps them to control various things. With this improvement in a
person, a person become more motivated and confident related to life. It
improves productivity as well as performance of a person.
Professional Development: Professional development includes all certification,
education and training which is required by a person in order to get success for
career (Pessôa, and Trabasso, 2017). There are different set of skills and knowledge
is required by different jobs. It is important for an individual to have necessary skills
in order to develop career but still they require additional skills in future. Professional
development helps a person in make the efficient and effective. Professional
development is important for a person for various reason which are as follows:
Expand knowledge base: Professional development can be attained with
training and development which helps them to expose various opportunities.
With this training, education and certification, business needs to expand
knowledge base and also increase expertise in particular field of a person.
Boost confidence and credibility: With increasing expertise in a person
helps to boost their confidence level as they learn new things. Their increase
knowledge and enhance skills helps them to boost confidence level of a
person. This also results in increase credibility of a person which provide them
various opportunities in life.
Provide networking opportunity: For professional development, a person
needs to participate in various workshops and networking invent. In these
events many professionals came and with meeting them a person can
develop network opportunity which helps them for career opportunity.
Description of short-term goals along with identification of at least 3

Short term goals includes those goals which can attained by individual in near future.
These goals are easy or simple as individual can achieve these goals within few
months, weeks and year (Matthews and Matthews, 2019). These can be attained
within less time. Short term goals are important for a person for various reason which
are as follows:
Boost motivation: Short term goals are important for a person as it boost motivation
of a person. These goals take less time for attainment which increase motivation of a
person for next challenges.

Provide direction: These goals provide direction to a person for their career growth
and also promote career success. Short term goals of a person helps for long term

Some of example of short-term examples are as follows:
One of my short-term goals is it to improve written communication skills as I
am not good written communication ability. I am not able to write things in
effective ways due to weak grammars and vocabulary.
Build network with other people is one of short-term goals which helps to
interact with new people and build network with them. These networks help in
developing various opportunities for a person.
Earning French language is another short-term goal as I have interest in
learning in this language. This language provides me additional skills and
opportunities.

Medium Term goals includes those goals which can attained by individual after short
term goals and helps to attain for long term goals (Learn, 2016). Medium term goals
are taking more time which cannot be attained less than a month. It provides basis
for long term goals. These goals are important for a person for various reason which
are as follows:
Provide base for long term goals: Medium term goals are those goals
which provide base for long term goals as these goals are linked with long
term goals of a person. It helps to build necessary skills and knowledge in a
person required for attainment of their long run success.
Helps in career success: Medium term goals are those goals which helps in
attainment of career success of a person. As these goals provide base for
success and growth for success of business.
Some of example of medium-term goals are as follows:
Work Placement: Work placement is one of medium term goals for a person
as it helps to provide work experience to a person which is important for

identification of future opportunity to a person (Jackson and Abouharb, 2018).
Work placement is important for getting good opportunity in life of a person.
Completion of graduation: Completion of graduation is another medium
term goal which helps a person for completion of their education and
development of skills. This graduation provide basis for getting future
opportunity of person.
Learning new skills: It is another medium term goal in which a person learn
new skills. These skills include communication skills, presentation skill,
decision making skills as well as time management skills. All these skills are
important in order to increase quality of life.
Description of long term goals along with identification of at least 3
personal examples
Long term goals: Long term goals includes those goals which take more time for
attainment and future related goals (Shelton and O’Kelly, 2019). These goals are
important goals which require proper planning as well as time. These goals are
important for career development and success of a person. These goals are
important goals for various reason which are as follows:
Clarity: Long term goals are those goals which provide clarity in life of a
person which helps in providing transparency in path of success. It boosts
motivation level of a person and provide direction towards growth and
success.
Focus: Long term goals are those goals which helps a person in focusing on
their career goals. This helps to make changes in people which allow them to
focus on different path of life.
Empowerment: Long term goals are those goals which empower skills and
knowledge of a person and make them capable for attainment of various
opportunities and growth in life.
Some of example of long-term goals of a person are as follows:
First long-term goals are completion of post-graduation in field of my interest
which helps me to develop deep knowledge about subjects and helps in
identifying effective career opportunity.
Finding a job is another long-term goal for me as it makes a person self-
independent (Grant, 2018). Ultimate purpose of a person is to earn money
after completion of education.

Gettering career growth is another long term goals which can be done after
finding a job. With this, a person get good salary and as in increases their
responsibility and reputation of their position.
Description of a Personal Development Plan
Personal development plan refers to a plan which includes all strength, goals of a
person which they want to attain in their area of specialisation (Cojan, Verzea and
Vilcu, 2017). This plan helps a person to overcome of their weakness which can
create barrier in attainment of their goals. It provides direction to a person for
attainment of success in life. Personal development plan includes four components
including aim, current situation, actionable plan and review of progress. For
development of personal development plan a person needs to follow some steps
which are as follows:
Aim of life of person: For development of personal development plan, a
person needs to identify aim of their life which provide them direction for
attainment of personal goals. This stage requires proper honesty and vison
that helps in attainment of career goals of a person.
Assessment of current situation: It is another step of development of career
goals as it helps in understanding current situation of person. With
assessment of current situation, a person can identify which things is required
by them for getting success in life.
Action plan: This is another step for preparing of personal development plan.
This plan includes various action to be taken by an individual which helps
them in developing skills required for attainment of goals and aim of life of an
individual.
Review of progress: This is the final step of developing of personal
development plan in which a person reviews their progress. If they are not
getting improvement, they can made further changes in their plan.

From above mentioned project report, it can be concluded that academic skills is
