for learning new things and skills so that he/she can get better opportunities for growth and
development in future. The present report is based on various aspects of personal as well as
professional development. In includes the approaches to self managed learning along with some
of the methods of learning and development. Other than this, this report also reflects a personal
development plan which will assist me to achieve some of my long term and short terms
objectives. The action plan contains proper date of review and achievement which will support
me in accomplishment of my objectives on time and in very effective manner. In the end, based
on the review and feedback, an updated personal and professional development plan has been
presented in this report.
TASK 1
1.1 Approaches to self managed learning
Self managed learning is defined as the process in which an individual takes initiatives to
learn new things with or without the guidance of others (Walkington, 2005). Some of the core
approaches to self managed learning are discussed below as:
Learning with the help of internet- There are various articles and other things available on
internet which can assist an individual to learn new things (Moreno‐Muñoz and et. al.,
200). Further it can be also stated that internet is very cheap and convenient approach of
learning.
Learning from research- learning with the help of researches done by other persons is
also a effective approach to learning. Further researches carry in depth analysis of each
and every element which can be very beneficial in terms of self learning (Ponterotto and
et. al., 2009).
Learning from others- The experiences of other is one of the best and a great sources of
learning (Learning method, 2009). An individual can uses process such as mentoring and
coaching in order to learn new things and become more effective.

Kobl has presented a model in which he reflected four major styles of learning which are
mentioned below as:
Accommodator: It is kind of learning style in which active experiment and concrete
experiments are used (Hunter, Laurse and Seymour, 2007).
Converger: Active experiment and abstract conceptualization are the things used in order
to learn new things
Diverger: In Diverger style of learning concrete experiments and reflective observations
are been adopted.
Assimilator : In such kind of learning style reflective observation is used with abstract
conceptualization in order to gain knowledge (Dubey and Gunasekaran, 2015).
1.2 Identification of learning and development method
In terms of selecting my learning and development method I was very careful. First I
have carried out my self assessment through which I came to know about what the areas and
skills which I need to learn or enhance. Based on these needs I have jot down my aim and
objectives. Further I was having a variety of learning and development method available and I
have assessed the advantage and disadvantages of all. This has helped me in selecting the most
beneficial and appropriate method.
It is recommended that people are required to carry out their self assessment and they are
also required to identify what type of learner they are. For example some people learn very
quickly with process such as mentoring and coaching. On the other hand, some people are
comfortable with lectures and hand written notes. Thus, it is recommended that the learning and
development method should be selected on the basis of what kind of learner an individual is.
1.3 Benefits of self managed learning to individuals and organization
Self managed learning is an effective process and both individual as well as organization
gets benefited from such kind of learning (Loucks-Horsley and et. al., 200). In terms of
individual it provides the following benefits:
Enhances the skills set and knowledge of an individual
Makes him more productive and competent
Increases confidences and boost up the morale of employee
Provides new and significant opportunities for growth and development

In context of organization the benefits of self managed learning are mentioned below as:
Self managed learning support organizations to identify future leaders
Increases the overall effectiveness and efficiency of organization
Helps organizations to get competitive advantages over others.
Makes it very easy for organizations to introduce any change
4.1 Work base problem
At present I am associated with Sainsbury and working as a marketing manager. Further
my work is to discuss new marketing strategies and targets with my seniors and make sure them
that the strategies are implemented in best possible manner and sales targets are achieved on
time. The problem which I often face during my work is that I am lacking problem solving skills.
Sometimes I totally get messed up in things and I become afraid of the same. When my juniors
are not able to achieved targets and the sales of Sainsbury competitors increases I become very
afraid. It has also created barriers in my future growth and development. It has become very
important for me to learn problem solving skills and self control during the time of issues and
challenges. One of the best way to overcome the same is that I can look for the process such as
training. The reason why training sessions will be more suitable is that such sessions provides
numerous opportunities to solve your doubts, queries and concerns. Thus, it is required by me to
attend training sessions where I can learn problem solving skills and become more effective.
4.2 Learning style which can be implemented
There are various types of learning styles which can be implemented and used. Some of
them are mentioned below as:
Auditory learning style- In this style an individual try to listen to the things he want to
learn. In addition to this, reciting information loud along with a background music is one
of the main characteristics of such type of learning (Munro, 2008).
Visual learning- In this style, people learn with the help of watching things or graphs. In
addition to this, it is preferred by those which finds auditory learning difficult.
Kinesthetic learning- In this style, an individual learn things by practically doing them
(Zakarevicius and Zuperkienė, 2015). It is termed as one of the best way of learning in
which people not only become aware about the theoretical aspects but also learn how to
apply things in practical manner.

In order to communicate information at strategic level, the concept of written
communication can be taken into consideration. Team meetings can be very useful in order to
communicate information at tactical level whereas notice and emails can be used to transfer
information at operational level.
4.3 Different time management strategies
Time management can be termed as the ability of individual to manage his work
effectively and in the best possible manner (Alsup, 2006). Different time management strategies
are discussed below:
Using planning tool- It is required by every individual to carry an personal planning tool
along with himself. There are various planning tools available such as wall charts, diaries,
etc. which can be used to jot down the activities and task which need to be completed
(Snow-Gerono, 2005). This will help an individual to determine what are the task which
needs to be done first which will further assist in managing time.
Avoid multitasking- Many people thinks that multitasking helps effective use of time and
also supports in managing the time. In terms of reality it is not so and in case of
multitasking an individual usually ends by losing his overall productivity. Things
becomes so messed that it becomes very difficult for people to get rid of them (Kowalski
and Casper, 2007).
Getting organized- Most of the wastage of time occurs when people are not properly
organized. It is also required by people to use a system that handle information in best
possible manner (Brinkerhoff, 2006). Unnecessary information, files and papers at desk,
at home and at workplace should be thrown away.
The strategy which have worked for me was the strategy of getting organized. I am
working as a marketing manager and has always ensured that all the things are my workplace are
well organized. Every day I used to inspect all the papers and segregate the important and
unimportant papers from them. This has also assisted me managing my time and get the things
done on time.

TASK 2
2.1 Skills required to meet the organizational goals
Sainsbury has developed goals such as high market share, 25% increase in sales by the
end of this year and increase in customers base. As a marketing manager it is my core
responsibility to make sure that the these goals are achieved on time. I will be required to
develop strategies and action plan with regards to achieve the goals and thus one of the major
skills which will be required is market research and analytical skills. Sales and customers base
can be increased only when the organization is well aware about the market trend and need of
people in market. Therefore, it can be stated that market researches and analytical skills will
assist me to understand the changing market trends and frame effective strategies according to
the same. Other than this, communication skills will be also required in order to meet
organization goals. One of the main reason why communication skill is necessary is that it will
support in communicating my ides, views and strategies to other employees of organization.
