INTRODUCTION
An individual's personality represents personal characteristics, traits, beliefs, motives that make
up individual identity. It is an important behavioural trait that is required for overall
improvement in an individual's life. Every individual possesses different sets of skills and
abilities that help in becoming a successful manager or leader in future. The purpose of this
report is to develop personal and professional skills so as to gain a reputed position in today's
competitive environment. It also highlights the individual's abilities and also develops a solution
to the work based problem.
The report provides a personal and professional development plan for an assistant manager at
Travelodge hotel and highlights the organizational objectives on the basis of identified needs.
The hotel provides the best accommodation facilities to their visitors in a sophisticated manner.
Thus, the report proposes the ways of enhancing lifelong learnings amongst the staff and
manager at the Travelodge hotel.

TASK 1
I am working as an assistant manager of Travelodge hotel with the main motive of encouraging
staff so as to improve their self-managed learnings in a personal and professional context. It has
further been observed that learnings further enable the employees to enhance their lifelong
development.
1.1
Self-managed learnings have proven to be an invaluable technique that enables the individual
that enables an individual to improve their learning prospects and commit themselves to the
development of the organization. It is an important learning process that helps in improving the
knowledge of staff learned from the past experience. There are different approaches to self-
managed learnings that lead to the development of skills of staff for future growth and success.
Social Networking
Social networking plays an important role in interacting with a different group of people and
understanding their perspective so as to improve learnings. It provides ways to connect with
the learning groups and multiple opportunities so as to improve learning methods. It can also
be useful in enhancing communication skill and reducing the fear of public speaking.
Conferences and seminars
The seminars and conferences can provide numerous opportunities for the staff working at
Travelodge so as to gain knowledge to improve their communication skill and also develop
networking with others. Thus, it is required by employees to attend the seminars arranged by
Travelodge hotel for the purpose of improving their current skill and knowledge.
Internet network
Internet is the most effective medium in order to provide a solution in today competitive
environment. Thus, the use of the internet can provide a potential benefit to Travelodge hotel
so as to nurture the learnings of their staff and provide a solution to different problems.

As an assistant manager at Travelodge hotel, I have the responsibility to motivate and
encourage the staff to improve their self-managed learnings that can further help in the
personal and professional development of an individual. The technique of Honey and Mumford
learning cycle and Kolb’s learning cycle can help to evaluate the lifelong development and
learnings. It can really be helpful in enhancing the awareness of self-managed learnings.
Honey and Mumford
This model provides four learning approaches to the individual so as to maximize own personal
growth and learnings. Travelodge can promote this model in order to promote lifelong
learnings.

Activists- These refer to individuals who are hands-on learners and have to go through trial and
error. They are open-minded and involve seeking challenges.
Reflectors- These are the individual that is known as tell-me learners and required briefing
before proceeding the work.

Theorists- They are called convince me learners and wants to ensure that the project makes
some sense.
Pragmatists- They is known to show me learners and require demonstration from an
acknowledged expert.

It is a great method in order to enhance the learning experience by taking control over own
learnings. The learnings encourage positive attitude across the organization and provide was
towards achieving organizational goal. This can really provide benefit to the Travelodge hotel
and Individual.

 The learnings enable the individual so as to enrich individual knowledge and capabilities.
 The learnings help to develop self-confidence and produce innovative ideas so as to

 It can help in attaining the overall business objectives of the Travelodge hotel in an
effective manner.

deadline.
 It helps in influencing the individual performance and thereby improving the overall

Thereby, it can be said that self-managed learnings are significantly contributing to the
development of individual as well as organization. Travelodge can adopt various theories
and models of self-managed learnings so as to create a learning environment and enhance
the cultural values across the organization (Busse et al., 2014).

further helps to evaluate my competencies in the professional world. As a manager at
Travelodge hotel, I must be competent enough so as to communicate with the staff members at
the hotel and also reviewing their work from time to time. A good presentation skill can help to
drive the growth of the organization by way of transforming nervous energy into visualization.
Also, the enhancement in self-managed learnings can provide effective ways so as to develop
own skills and capabilities and taking effective decisions for the organization. The use of certain
approaches and management techniques can also help in boosting the morale of the
employees. As an Assistant Manager, I am also required to decision making skills and leadership
qualities in order to provide effective guidance and handling the problems faced by employees
at Travelodge.
Besides this, I am also required to improve my presentation skills and enhancing my self-
confidence so as to successfully present myself in front of the public. This will help me in
removing the fear of public speaking and also providing opportunities so s to become a
successful manager in future. Thus, development planning involves the use of several
methodologies and techniques so as to meet professional objectives in the context of
Travelodge hotel.
It is essential to significantly understand diverse kind of development needs so as to strengthen
my own capabilities and making effective strategies in order to improve my weak areas.
Furthermore, the identification of development need is essential for achieving competitive
advantages in the business environment. Also, I need to develop a strategic plan so as to attain
personal and professional objectives.

My target is to complete my qualification with a good target and thereby achieve good results
for the final year. I am also required to complete all my work within the given time frame.

understanding and enhance my skill at the workplace. I need to complete my higher studies and
gain specialization in the field of hospitality management. Furthermore, I need to attend
training programs for encouraging my professional growth and achieve success in the field of
the hospitality sector. It is also required to make strategic plans for achieving future objectives.
Furthermore, I can enhance my skill and opportunities at Travelodge in context of personal and
professional development. The conduct of academic training session will be helpful in gaining
knowledge and enriching my abilities for future development.
