INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development of a person is considered as the development in
the skills and factors of a person. The overall development, either personally or professionally
cannot be considered for a shorter time, instead it is considered for a longer time (Lussier and
Achua, 2015). It combines various activities and processes that a person has to go through for the
development. The report is about understanding the need of personal and professional
development in a person and how it can help the person in lifelong learning. Also, it includes the
importance of various attributes of self managed learning and various communication styles as
well.
TASK 1
1.1 Approaches to self managed learning
There are various approaches that can be used for self learning. A few of them are discussed
as under:
Seminar
Seminars and conferences are considered as one of the best sources that can be used for
self learning. One can learn various important facts from this source. By participating in
seminars, it can help one in an increased level of confidence and motivation. By means of
participating in seminars, one can gain a huge amount of confidence which can help in
developing personal skills.
Social networking
This is also a very essential factor that can help in increasing level of knowledge. Many
people use it for various purposes. Some use it for fun and some normally for passing time.
More than half of the generation are using these social networking websites. So, if one wants,
they can gain a huge amount of information.
Internet
As people are quite dependent on using technologies and internet, so it can be used to
gain information and various facts feelings (Busse, Aboneh and Tefera, 2014). It also
provides various links as well to the same information. So, one can use all those links for a
deeper understanding. More than half of the generation spends a much amount of time on

internet. Some use it for fun and some for passing time. So, people ca take use of internet for
gaining knowledge as well.
1.2 Ways in which learning can be encouraged
There are various ways by which self learning can be encouraged with those of
professional skills. When a proper and efficient training is being provided to an individual, it is
then, their responsibility to practice it so they can stay aware of it. It helps in making the person
more efficient. There are various skills that are very important to analyze one self such as
communication skills, a person should have efficient communication skills so that the person can
be able to interact well with others. Lifelong learning is considered as the learning that can help
in preserving desires for obtaining new knowledge and skills. Development of a proper attitude
helps. It is because along with the proper communication and leadership skills, a right and
positive attitude helps the process in long lasting.
1.3 Benefits of self managed learning
Self-managed learning helps the person to become a self manage learner. It provides the
benefits of awareness, autonomous learning. Self managed learning helps the person in gaining
the ability of independent learning in any sort of environment, whether it is aggressive,
demanding or completive. It is helpful to the individuals as it makes a different profile and
strength so that the person can be able to adapt in the current situations. To the person, self
managed learning helps in developing a self confidence which further provides a sort of
satisfaction to the person. For the organization, if more and more employees follow self managed
learning, then it can help the organization in achieving higher targets at faster rates of time.

2.1 Evaluation of current skills and competencies
The evaluation of own skills and competencies can be done by doing the SWOT analysis
as well. By this way, one can have the whole analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities
and what are the threats for them. After a proper analysis, one can be able to determine the next
level factors and measures that they can take to stay protected from any threats that can come as
a barrier or challenge in their future decisions. The strengths can be classified as the learning
skills they go through, the behavior towards each other, means to stay friendly and helpful is the
best option of all and it can impress people to a much level as well. Weaknesses are termed as

various ways should be found for the compensation of that work.

The identification of own development needs can be done by various sub factors which
are discussed as under
Continuous learning
The person can follow the learn and apply factor on a continuous basis. By this, the
person can be able to analyze well their own level and the one which they have to follow to
complete it. It can be applied to teams, individuals and organizations as well. So, browsing for
new facts and figures can actually help in getting a proper and complete knowledge of the
ongoing factors and this can further help in identifying the own skills and also, the areas which
needs some sort of modification or improvement.
Effective leadership
Leadership skills are also equally important. A good leader can compete with any sort of
conflicts and competencies. Along with it, communication skills are also important. The way, a
person speaks to others, reflect their skills and inner capability because listening to the other
body is also important. It is because no one wants to have a conversation with some one that
never listens and speaks continuously. The person also wants that if they are listening to the
other person, they should also do the same but the person who keeps speaking and does not
listens seems irritating after a while, so it is important to focus on these factors which will help
them in better analyzing the needs and development skills.

Various development opportunities can be identified by some factors and these factors
are discussed as following:
Motivation
Motivation is an important and essential factor of lifelong learning. Providing some sort
of motivation is very important in today’s life because it gives the person more power and
capability of achieving targets. Motivation can be provide to any means such as providing some

sort of incentives or increments on a regular basis or giving some extra leaves as well. These
means help the people to stay more focused towards the work, thus it can help the company as
well in achieving better results.
Achievement
For the plans of achieving something, it is important to have objectives because a pre
planning can help a lot. If all the objectives are being decided on a previous basis, them, the
analysis and implementation can be done even more easily. It is because if the person decides on
the moment itself or in a hustle, there are more chances of it getting failed or on negative side.
So, it is better to pre plan everything so that the things may go easily and smoothly.

much confidence, so by joining these classes, it will help me in an increased level of confidence
as well. I can also participate in various seminars and conferences and then I will speak in a
much public, it will also boost my confidence level and I can be able to present myself better. So
joining personality developing classes and the involvement of some skills such as participating in
seminars and conferences can help me more in boosting my confidence and motivation level.
For the development of leadership skills, I can lead various leadership books written by
various famous authors. It will help me in gaining an inside knowledge of factors that I should
involve which can help me in developing these leadership skills and an attitude as well. Carrying
the leader profile is not easy. It needs a proper attitude towards it and towards managing the
whole scenario including the employees and the managers as well. So, reading these books can
help me a lot and I will be able to manage and control all the processes and operations of the
organization and it will help in gaining all the targets and goals of the company.
3.2 Undertaking and documenting development activities
For a proper undertaking, various skills are need to be analyzed which compiles he team
work skills, presentation skills, communication skills etc. Self managed learning involving the
seminars and conferences can help the person in developing confidence level so that the person
can be able to present themselves in front of people. Practicing theses skills on a regular and
continuous basis can help in the development of presentation skills. It helps in the development
of confidence levels of a person (Lussier and Achua, 2015). After these, documentation of
communication skills is important because efficient communication skills are very important as

For correcting and resolving the issue, it is important to identify the issue first. It is
because when the issues are identified clearly, then, it can be quite easy for producing solutions
for it because in that case, it will be appropriate and efficient. So, proper identification of the
issue is important before finding for solutions to those issues (Bovee, Thill and Raina, 2016).
Understanding everyone’s interest
In an organization, it is important to understand the interest of everyone because it helps
in maintaining the relationships equally with each other and no one gets disappoint as well.
Although, according to the Equality Act 2010, it says there should be no sort of discrimination in
the workplace, whether it is on the basis of color, race, gender etc., it is not allowed at all. So,
understanding the personal interest of everyone is important to keep everyone happy and equal.
Listing of all the possible solutions
Staying ready with all the possible solutions is important and can prove very helpful as
well. After the identification of the issues, it will be easy to identify the solutions for the
problems. It is because after the analysis of the issue, the solutions can be identified specifically
and which are appropriate for them.

After all these factors, monitoring and controlling is also equally important because
managing and controlling the whole process is very important so that if there has been something
missing, it can be covered or if there are some issues, there can be proper and efficient solutions
for it. A proper monitoring can help in analyzing the whole situations along with the areas which
needs some sort of modification or improvement.

There are various communication styles that can be used and these are discussed as

Open communication
Open communication is considered as a communication in which the two persons can
talk openly with each other and is often termed as an informal way because it consist of no
formalities and this conversation is free of emotions and feelings (Busse, Aboneh and Tefera,
2014). This is a feasible type of communication which can help two persons to interact in a way
that they can talk to each other very openly and can share their thoughts a well. This can be done
in between the employees, co workers and friends or family etc.
Reserved communication
Reserved communication can be termed as a communication in which the person can be
able to have a talk with other but it is termed as a formal sort of communication. In this, the

starting with a clear focus, having a dynamic list of all the task, reducing the interruptions and
