INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is defined as the formal method through which a
person working with a professional in health care setting establishes goals, strategies. It helps an
individual in managing their own learning and growth in career. Personal and professional
development can be defined as the procedure of improving as well as increasing capabilities of
employees within a health care institution through allowing them access of training and
education opportunities. It is important as it allows an individual to develop skills and core
competencies which are required to deliver services in health care organization. Personal and
professional development aids in eliminating the chances of medical errors.
The report has focus on identifying the importance of personal values in health and social
care setting. It also emphasizes on assessing the way personal culture as well as experience
influence service user. Study will also highlight the various approaches to self-managed learning.
TASK 1
1. Discussing personal values in health care setting
Values can be defined as set of personal attitude and belief about the practices in health
care setting. I when facilitating my nursing practices in health care organisation I follow mainly
three principles these are equality among patients, human dignity and prevention of suffering. I
as a care provider perceives that nurses should also have these values such as autonomy,
integrity, social justice and altruism. I have analysed the values are the factors which has direct
as well as significant influence on an individual. I perceive that service provider in health and
social care organisation needs to develop abilities to support people in a manner that dignity as
well as self-esteem are maintained. I believe that nurses are required to have knowledge and
awareness concerning professional values as standards to provide safe and high-quality ethical
care. I also perceive that safeguarding patients’ rights to privacy and confidentiality of service
user is very much crucial.
As I am very much religious I perceives that nurses are required to possess an effective
communication skill which is very much important in order to deliver quality services to
patients. Considering the given case scenario, I also believe that person suffering from infectious
disease should be treaty equally and they should not be discriminated.

I think that personal values have direct as well as significant effect on an individual
practice at workplace. I have analyzed that an individual behave or react positively to people
those who share their values and person behave rudely to people who have different priorities. In
context of given case scenario, I have observed that nurses support those patients who share
same value. In context of given case study, an individual suffering from an infectious treatment
are not given proper care s nurses and professional think that if they will go close to patient they
will prone to that specific disease. I believe that as a service provider an individual need to keep
assisted their beliefs behind and they need to behave in professional manner. I perceive that as a
service provider our first duty as a nurse is to ensure that patient is receiving best care. While
performing my duties as care provider I don’t allow my personal views which holds service user
to prejustice assessment and restrict access to services.
3. Analyzing the way current legislation, policies and processes in workplace effect service user.
Government has formulated various laws which purpose is to protect people working in
health care setting and also to those who are vailing care services. There are various laws which
has affected my values as well as practices in health care institutions these are:
Essential standards for Quality in care: This legislation governs circumstances which influences
dignity, for instance, living conditions in health care home.
Manual handling operations regulations: This law provides guidance related to reducing the risk
related withy carrying, lifting etc.
Control of substances Hazardous to health 2002 Act: It is very much important for management
in health care organization to implement this law to cleansing material as well as medications
which might be dangerous if not used properly (Olson, 2015). As per this legislation, it is the
duty of care to protect employees as well as service user from harm by ensuring that potentially
dangerous substances are safely stored and that workers those who use them are provided with
complete training.
Data protection act- As per this law it is important for service provider in health care institution
to maintain the confidentiality of information provided by employees or patients. Information
should not be disclosed without the permission of patient or their family members.

4. Strategies for overcoming tensions and conflicts between personal values and other people
Conflicts between staff members in health care institutions must arise due to differences
in opinion, values and beliefs. I perceive that in situation of clashes between own personal values
and those of other people working in an organization there are only three choices an individual
has:
A person can stand up and provide justification for their belief. In such situation an individual
might have to lose job for refusing to engage in particular activity.
An individual can compromise and easily accept that what she / he believe is completely wrong.
A person can influence people to change their value or behavior. I have analyzed that first two
choices are often used by people but last choices are rarely opted. I perceive that the best way of
dealing with such situation is to identify ways in which a new or different value may better
enables company to achieved desired business goals or objectives.

assisted an organisation delivering quality services and effective care to patients. I have able to
develop an effective and safe working environment for people and employees working in health
care institution.

1. Medical and social model
Dementia is considered to be a clinical syndrome which is characterised by international
cognitive impairment which shows a decrease from previous level of functioning. As per the
social model, disability can be referred to as loss or of opportunities of participating in
community on an equal level with others due to social or physical barriers. Medical model is
based on an assumption related to medicines.
Medical model provides information related to the perspective of medical professionals
about dementia. Dementia is considered to be as disease of the brain which leads to loss or
decline in vision. Medical model of dementia can be defined as set of procedures in which all

visitor, Physiatrist, Occupational Therapists etc.

normative rules about what is allowed of people or owed to people, according to legal
systems, social convention, or ethical theory. I have been successful in promoting the rights
of workers and patients. I can evaluate effectiveness of my role as well as of organization by

1. Analysing the factors which contributes to an effective team performance and barriers to
effective team
There are various factors which contributes to an effective team performance these are:
Shared goals: All the members in an effective team arte aware about the objectives and
they also know about the strategies which are adopted by other team members for
accomplishing desired goals.
Effective communication: It is the important factor which maker’s n effective team.
There is smooth flow of information between group members.
Predefined and interdependent roles: All people working in a team are aware about their
roles and responsibilities.
There are various barriers which might have effect on effectiveness of group and also on t
eam performance these are:
Unclear goals: When the goals will not be clear then an individual will face difficulty in
identifying their roles and responsibilities which will have direct as well as negative
effect on team performance.
Lack of freedom and responsibility: This might a barrier, as before implementing the
ideas, an individual have to wait for the approval of leader which is lengthy process. This
procedure might lead to the delay in decision making, due to which other team members
have to suffer losses. This barrier also restricts the sharing of ideas which ultimately have
negative effect on team performance (Jeongand Shin, 2017).
Conflicts: It is considered to be as a key factor which might have negative effect on an
effectiveness of team and also on performance of group members.

Unclear goals: This issue can be eliminated by setting smarty and clear objectives. Setting
of clear gaols will assist an individual in identifying their roles and responsibilities. In addition to
this manager or leaders need to inform team members about the objectives. It is required by

about the standards which are required to be followed by workers for reaching to the goals.
Poor communication: Effective communication is very much important in context of building an
effective team. Lack of communication can have negative effect on team performance. It is
required by manager in an organisation to provide open communication channel to workers, as
this will promote sharing of ideas which is very much important for maintaining an effectives of
team (Dixon,2017. ). Continuous meeting can be organised, as this strategy will assist leader in
addressing the issue faced by team members. It will also help leader or manager in identifying
the training needs and resources required by team members. Providing an open communication
strategy is an effective assist enables people to develop mutual trust with other members in a
team. I have set clear goals and communicated the same to team members which has enabled
team members to develop sense of responsivity
3. Evaluating the effectiveness of own contributions with working with other in an organisation
I have assessed my own contributions by using various assessment tool such as swot
analysis. I have obtained the feedback from my team members. In addition to this, I have
executed timely team meeting which has enabled me to address the problems faced by team
members and provided solution to team members which has assisted my co- workers in maintain
their concentration on task (Taylor, 2016). In addition to this I have provided employees with
open communication channel, this has enabled sharing of ideas related to bringing improvement
in team performance. I have enabled them to discuss the ideas and then implement, this strategy
has assisted in generation of an effective outcome. I have provided resources to my co-workers
which has enabled my team workers to complete work on time.
4. Identifying the way to improve own contribution to the collective effectiveness of team
I will make strategies for ensuring n effective communication and flow of information
between team members. As a leader or team member I will provide clear instruction and
continuous feedback to my coworkers, as this strategy will assist me in making significant
contribution towards increase in effectiveness of team. I will set goals for my selves, as this
strategy will assist me in completing my task on time. I will take responsibility of completing the
task or project on time. I will also respect mad support others in a team. I will share my
knowledge, ideas, views with other group members at workplace. Using my influencing power, I
will encourage other people to increase their working efficiency. I will take high initiative for

enhancing team culture. I will execute team building exercises for encouraging stronger
