INTRODUCTION
Professional improvement considers developing in duty of completely realise business do
and way improve. It involves raising necessary abilities to carry out duty effectively and possible
which is continued throughout work life. Impressive professed improvement includes insuring
the knowledge as well as knowing of field of skillfulness for job is always at largest possible
level. It is learning of abilities and understanding for career progress, but it also involves
components of personalized improvement (Olsen, 2015). Individual development think about
abilities needs to achieve the outcome required both in role and life in general. It is about
improving talent and potential both in and out of the workplace. I can improve the necessary
skills by ways of solution through having understanding of something I need to achieve and
ways to accomplish it. The purpose of Personal and Professional Development is to aid me for
managing my learning and growth throughout my career. It is the essential for me to continue
learning and improve to keep my abilities and knowledge up to date and ensure to my work
safely, legally and effectively. Some example of professional development are information
technology training, health and safety, legal knowledge or expertise. Some illustration of
personal development are leadership training, time management, communication abilities.
MAIN BODY
Determination and assessment of skills set and career aspiring
It is necessary to identify and evaluate of setting up skills and career ambitious. For that, I
am doing the SWOT analysis which help me to develop the abilities and knowledge for
achieving my career goals and objectives (Hildebrand, 2018). I have effective communication
skills such as verbal and written for interacting with my staff, colleagues and managers when I
am working in the organization. I have great leadership skills, so that I am leading with my team
members, make efforts to solve problems of members for effective team working and achieve the
common goals and objectives. I have good presentation skills in relation to give the appropriate
presentation in front of my superior and top level manager within the organization.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths : I have good communication skill to build relationship with staff, colleagues and
managers in the company. I have great leadership abilities to provide the guidelines to my team

members. I have got creative and innovative ideas for make decision in the firm. I am taking all
responsibilities for completing my work and activity in the firm.
Weakness: My decision making skill is very weak in relation to take quick judgement. I am
unable to manage time for completing the work. My confidence skill is very weak for involving
in the complex activities. I am easily distracted with small things, so that I am not complete my
work on time frame.
Opportunities : I want to work with people within new culture. I want to meet the new people
and effective interaction with them. I want to gain the transferable and valuable skills. Through
meeting with new people, I am building up relationship with staff, team members and
colleagues.
Threats: I am unable to solve complex problems within the firm. My financial and accounting
skills are very weak which impact on the handling of the financial resources. I am not
maintaining the work environment.
My career ambitious is to be Human Resource Manager in hotel sector in the hospitality
industry. In order to that, I am making efforts for developing my skills, abilities, competencies
and capabilities for achieving the career goals and objectives. Also, I am accomplishing the
personal and professional objectives. I am selecting career in HR, because I have done my
graduation and post graduation in human resource management. Therefore, I have more
knowledge about HR policies and procedure, techniques, methods and legislation which are
utilised in the hotel sector in the hospitality industry (Moss, Gibson and Dollarhide, 2014). Thus,
I am developing the more knowledge by doing internship within hotel which help to setting the
career objectives. Also, I am increasing learning ability in relation to gain more knowledge of
recent and future trends of human resource management policies, methods of extensive training
and development, modern techniques of recruitment and selection, strategies of rewards and
benefits and so on. In this context, I am utilising the Gibbs learning cycle which can be useful in
making think through all the forms of an experience or actions. Different stages involved in this
learning cycle such as:
Description: Currently, I am working with Tavistock house hotel which is 4 stories Grade 11
Listed Victorian town houses made-up by Duke of Bedford circa 1850 located in the historic
market down of Tavistock Devon (Visser, Evering and Barrett, 2014). By working with hotel, I
am very nervous, because it is my first job in the hotel. I have knowledge about activities and

functions of hotel. But all hotels have different rules and regulations, so that I take time to
understand all the activities and functions of hotel.
Feelings: I felt highly unhappy and uncomfortable as well as upset by my own inability to speak
in front of the groups. After that situation, I felt that inability is the largest barriers to career
opportunities as well as achieving them.
Evaluation: I did not awareness that the condition had been unsolved at all. Therefore, after
speaking to colleagues about their own experience, so that I felt much more positive. I have
realised that everyone feels nervous before their first day of job in the hotel.
Analysis: I felt very uncomfortable, so that my supervisors interact with me and giving the
appropriate guidelines for my job role and other thing relating to hotel (Gamrat and et.al., 2014).
This can be helped to make comfortable and relax, so that I am working effectively in the
workplace.
Conclusion: I will do many things by evaluating and analysing my situation within the hotel.
Therefore, I should have interacted with my leader and taking guidance from them about my
work and job role. This situation made me realise that building up relationship with leaders
which skills that stresses as key to career objectives.
Action plan: In the upcoming, I will ensure that I build up relations with association and leaders.
I think to speak to each of them about my nerves. I have already had advantageous conversation
with my leader and together we have developed programme of team training for next few weeks,
so that I do not feel so pressurised. I also need to speak to my colleagues more frequently about
how they feel as I think I will be able to learn from them (Husebø, O'Regan and Nestel, 2015).
CONCLUSION
This report has summarised that abilities and qualities are needed and essential for
identifying the career aspiring. It can be concluded that SWOT analysis and Gibbs learning
reflective cycle is beneficial for evaluating the skills which are barrier for achieving the career
objectives and goals. It can be discussed that SWOT analysis is beneficial for identifying the
strength and weakness of an individual in their career. Furthermore, study has completed that
Gibbs learning reflective cycle is good for thinking about thoughts, experience and activities by
facing the situation in their career. It can be concluded that developing skills and abilities can
help to achieve the personal and professional goals and objectives. Professional development aid
to achieve the career objectives and goals. It can be discussed that increasing the learning

abilities that aid to gain more knowledge and developing the skills and competencies for acheiing
the career objectives as well.
RECOMMENDATIONS
After evaluation my skills and qualities, I should join training session and attending the
development programs. Training session and development programmes can help to develop my
skills, qualities, abilities and competencies for career ambitious. Through training, I should
improve and develop my time management, decision making, confidence and only focused on
my work without any distraction. With this, I should my completing the activity and work
according to the allotted time. I should also develop my financial knowledge, so that I can solve
all financial issues or problems within the workplace. I should improve my decision making
skills, so that I can make quick decisions about work as well as business. I should increase the
confidence level, so that I can involve in maintaining environment and culture of workplace.
Also, I should effective communication and behave with members and colleagues for building up
relationship with them. I should develop my leadership and management skills for handling the
work and completing it. With skills development, I should make efforts to achieve my career
goals and objectives that is to be human resource manager in hotel sector in the hospitality
industry. In this context, I should develop my skill and abilities for achieving the personal and
professional development within the personal and organization life. I should read different books
and utilise online resource for developing knowledge and abilities as per my career ambitious
and achieve them. I should make efforts to develop and improve the skills, qualities and abilities
for my career objectives and personalized goals.
