INTRODUCTION
Reading skills are primarily the skills which capability of the students to read as well as
understand the meaning of text which they are reading. In short, reading skills are the skills
though which individuals are able to interact with other people in an effective manner. It is
crucial for students to have these reading skills in order to increase their learning ability. The
main aim of this report is to throw light on the personal reflection in terms of reading skills.
This report provides an overview of personal reading skills, strengths as well as
weaknesses and personal reflection on classroom reading.
MAIN BODY
Personal reading skills
Reading skills is basically ability of the individual to read, interpret and comprehend the
meaning of words written on page or the article. These consist of fluency in reading, vocabulary,
attention, reasoning, working memory etc. These skills play a great role within the academic life
and thus help the student to identify their areas in which they need improvement (Rosenshine,
2017). The effective reading skills basically helps the students to develop and nourish their mind
as well as enables them to provide a shape to their language skills which is highly essential
throughout the life. When students have effective skills of reading then they are able to easily
comprehend and understand the meaning of different keywords which eventually increases their
overall learning ability. Thus, in this way reading skills is highly crucial and contributes to the
personal development of students. Talking on my personal level, my reading skills are not well-
developed. Although I have some of the effective reading skills but I would say that most of the
skills and qualities are not highly shaped in me. My personal reading skills are nit effective
enough and thus I faces a lot of problem in reading the text as well as understand its meaning.
The most important problem which I face is vocabulary. My vocabulary skills are not highly
developed due to which I am not able to read the given text or article in continuous manner
(Metsäpelto and et.al.,2017).

Strength and weakness
Strength
My major strength in terms of the reading skills is that I am able to effectively listen as
well as pay the attention on particular topic. While the tutor read any article or subject matter, I
pay a great attention on each and every word and this increases my overall learning ability.
Along with this, it also increases my overall knowledge of the background. Another strength is
that I am good at sentence construction. Due to great knowledge of nouns and pronouns, I am
able to effectively structure the sentence in meaningful manner. I am able to make the proper use
of noun, adjectives while framing the sentence and also includes the action verb to provide it a
thorough meaning (Kim and et.al.,2017).
Weakness
My major weakness is my poor vocabulary. My vocabulary skills are not highly
developed and thus I face problem in properly repeating and reading the words in text or article.
Due to this, I am also not able to express myself in one or the other way. Basically, I am not able
to understand what I am reading and is not able to pronounce the words properly and fluently.
My another weakness is my poor fluency. I am not able to read the text or whole sentence with
accuracy as well as proper speed. I generally faces problem in reading the study material or any
other article fluently and with meaningful expression (Piasta and et.al.,2018).
Personal reflection on classroom reading
As my reading skills are not highly developed and besides this, I faces a lot of problem in
properly dictating the text or article. This I realized during the classroom session where my tutor
pointed at me for reading the subject in our book. There I came to know about my personal
reading skills and identified about the areas where I need improvement. During the English class,
tutor gave the task to each and every student to read a particular topic in the book aloud and in
front of everyone and marks the adjectives and nouns. The students had to read the specific topic
in consecutive number one after the another (Koponen and et.al.,2016). When my turn came, I
started reading the long paragraph for marking adjectives and nouns. While I was reading, I and
my tutor noticed that I was not able to read the text fluently and in continuous manner. Besides
this, I was not able to pronounce the complicated words properly and made mistake in dictating

it. Along with this, I also realized that I am strong in identifying nouns and adjectives and I
marked all the adjectives correctly for which my tutor also appraised me. Thus, at the end my
tutor told me that I need to work on my vocabulary ad fluency and improve them for improving
my reading skills (Boland and et.al.,2017).
CONCLUSION
It has been summarized that reading skills plays a great role in academic life and is highly
essential for them to incorporate within them. The major reading skills are proper fluency,
effective vocabulary, sentence framing, comprehension etc. It is highly crucial for the students to
have effective reading skills as this helps them to develop their personal skills as well as helps
enable them to improve their overall learning ability. Besides this, the personal reflection allows
the students to identify their strength as well as weakness within their reading skills. It therefore
provides them a way to make improvement in their weakness.
