INTRODUCTION
Personal development portfolio may be defined as supported and structured process undertaken
by individual to reflect their learnings, achievement and performance in order to plan for their
development of personal, career and educational (Kuhn, 2019). It helps in evaluation of of
strengths and weaknesses of individual along with that provides a plan which helps in overall
development of individual. It helps in formulation action plan for future and incorporates
individual competencies and statements of individual's education, learning and aspirations. In
other words it is an process of generating action plan which helps in improving skills of an
individual. This project will cover a personal development portfolio and how skills helps in
becoming effective student of business management in higher education. Further, it will also
cover how skills helps in future success of students. In addition to that it will cover two models
of academic and personal development in order to reflect learning.
TASK
Personal development helps in enhancing self awareness of and what an individual wants in his
life. It will also cover skills that he shave gained and the gaps which is needed to filled in order
to achieve personal or professional goals. It provide with action plan which can be used in
enhancing career of individual. As I want to become manager in my future and this module helps
me as it provide me with relevant skills which are needed to become an effective manager. This
will helps me in becoming effective manager. I can identify my strengths and weaknesses and
with that I can grab opportunity which will help me in my future.
Personal development goals
As I want to become manager in my future and for that it requires lot of skills which helps in
becoming an effective manager. I have analysed that my communication skills are not good and
for that reason I am unable t convey right message to people. Sometimes due to non effective
communication, people may misunderstood message. Communication skill is an essential skill
that I want to enhance through this module. It helps in conveying right message to people. This
strengthens the relationship between me and my peers. It facilitates in understanding information
more quickly and easily. In case of poor communication, message can be misunderstood (Dahl
and et.al., 2018).

Importance of communication skill
If a manager is highly qualified and skilled but if do not have good communication skill,
then it is irrelevant. Communication skill will help me in communicating directions effective to
my team in order to get work done through them in an effective manner (Griffin, 2021).
Importance of communication is discussed below.
 The basis of coordination -It helps me in explaining company's goals, objectives and
mission statements so that they can get clarity about roles and responsibilities which they
have to perform within organisation. It facilitates in providing coordination between
various employees. By this I can effectively communicate with my team mates and
management.
 Fluent working - It helps in coordinating with physical and human elements of company
in order run organisation smoothly. It is not possible to effectively coordination without
proper communication.
 The basis of decision making -By getting right information, it helps in taking right
decision as no decision can be made in case of not having right information.
 Increase efficiency -It heps in elevating efficiency of company and it will help me in
increasing overall performance. By this it will also help in increasing performance of
company.
 Increases cooperation -two way communication helps in developing cooperation and
peace in organisation. This will help me in providing foster environment to team mates so
that they can work with their peak potential. It helps in creating mutual understanding
between workers and management and increases harmony among them.
 Boosts employee morale -Effective communication helps in adjusting employees to
physical and social aspects of work. It also promotes employee relation along with
motivates employees in order to attain organisational goals smoothly.
Personal Growth model
This model helps me in encouraging and creates positive attitude towards my career and
aspirations (Sarfraz, 2017). Following are the elements of personal growth model.
 Belief -In order to promote development of my personal growth, this step states that I
have to change my belief and attitude towards what I want to become. I have to change

my negative mindset to positive . It will help me in identifying how I perceive myself and
what are pros and cons related to my personal growth action plan. With this module, I
come to know about what are things that I belive on and what are my priorities of my
personal and professional career.
 Setting up of plans – In this step of personal development model, it states that I have to
formulate an effective plan which provides me with a blueprint or roadmap which will
give a path to reach at destination growth. It will be motivated by making effective plan.
Planning is important in promoting change either in personal or professional
development. I will collect and organise that information in a structured manner which
helps me in understanding each activity or task that I have to follow ti promote personal
growth. After that, I will formulate effective strategise which will direct me towards
successful personal growth.
 Action -Ir is the hardest step in taking action towards goals. As I have formulate
strategies and this time I have to implement step by step. I will use my existing skills
which will enhance effectiveness of my plan.
 Result – I will measure my effectiveness of plan by comparing actual performance with
standard criteria. If the criteria fulfils then the plan which I have formulate is effective
and if it shows any negative I will take corrective measures in order to make it correct.
By this model I will able to improve my communication skill and can deliver right message to
my team members. It is important to have communication skill in every business. While reading
this module, I have faced difficulty and I have taken help from my teachers and they have guided
me in a polite manner. Their support is valuable for me in understanding this module. I have also
take help from my colleagues and they solve my issue of shyness. We have conducted group
studies and they provided me a platform where I can overcome my weakness. They advised me
where I am lacking. This makes me in eliminating my weakness and boost my self confidence.
From this module I will improve my communication skill as it will help me in becoming
effective manager. I will try my bets to improve this skill and for that I will take help from my
mentors and read journals and books in order to know about principles of effective
communication. I will try to improve this skill in upcoming three months. I will take participate
in group debates from that I can eliminate fear of communication. I will regularly conduct group

debates with my peers and this makes me more comfortable. I will opt business management
degree which will help me in covering all subjects which helps me in becoming effective
manager. I have a goals which will help me in making my career bright and can take advantage
of it in grabbing opportunities.
Skills Development
By this module, I have gained so many skills which helps me in my future when I will become a
manager. Skill development may be defined as the process of making individual effective by
conducting training or providing relevant knowledge in order to make them more productive.
Skills plays a crucial role in making individual more successful by enhancing existing skills and
developing new skills. This module provides me with insights of importance of skills and how
they can be utilised to make work more easier and effective. Due to changing environment, it is
needed ton learn new skills in order to remain competitive among other individuals. As I want to
become manager and it requires skills and knowledge which I have gained through this module.
Importance of skills self development
 Sense of achievement – When an individual is learning new skill, this will help in making
them adaptable in every circumstance (Alias and et.al.,, 2019). It facilitates a sense of
accomplishment. It makes individual in grabbing new opportunities and makes valued.
 Growth – It promotes growth of an individual either in personal and professional life. It
helps in becoming more productive and can take advantage of having new skill in market.
By getting skills, it helps in improving current skills and provides access to new chance
of promotion and growth.
 Financial gain -Skills makes individual more productive and it gets benefits in terms of
financial growth (Magolda, 2020). An individual can earn more if he have skills that
other don't have.
 Provides creative ideas – It gives with advancements and by learning new skills it
provides with creative ideas and can be used in academics and professional life.
Critical thinking and problem solving skill -By this module I have learned this skill and it can be
used in my future career when I become a manager. This skill I can used in solving issues and

concerns of my team members. Conflicts arises in every organisation but it is the responsibility
of manager to resolve conflict and eliminate misunderstanding or it will adversely impact on
company's performance. This skill can be used in my academics too as it allows to go at root
cause of issue and find the reason for its occurrence and provide with feasible solution in order to
solve conflict. Whenever I will encounter with such issue, I will analyse cause and then opt best
alternative so that issue can be resolved effectively. This will helps in improving overall
efficiency of company. Individual who are having good problem skills tend to be valued more in
organisation DeRobertis, 2017). It facilitates in solving issue of people so that they can work
without any conflict. It plays an important role as it allows in better working.
Importance of problem solving skill in career development
 Provides ability to organise time intelligently -This helps in managing and saving time of
both and companies as well as saves precious time of employees (Maya, 2019).
 Ability to prioritise plan and execute strategies- It helps me in understanding needs of my
customers so that I can provide with better solution. This skill will help me in both my
personal and professional life. I can plan and manage my issues in a better way.
 Ability to think out of box – With thus skill, I can think out if box and find solution in a
creative way. This will help me in making unique manager who solve issues in an
innovative manner.
Teamwork and collaboration skill
This skill is must when it come so manger. Its is manager's responsibility to align resources in an
effective manner that it collectively contributes towards attainment of goals. Working in teams
helps employees to share knowledge and they can perform better rather than individual. Each
member have unique that can help in leveraging to make better decision. It has been analysed
that team makes work done faster and in effective manner. By collectively working in team, it
facilitates in better work and improves team building spirit among employees. When I will be a
manager, I will use this skill to make my team more productive. Every team member is having
different set of skills and knowledge and he can use in making work better. Collaboration helps
in fastracking project deliveries as employees able to combine their strengths and expertise to get
work done. I will take opinions and views of my team members in decision making. This makes

employees valued in organisation and creates a sense of achievement within organisation. By this
module I have come to know about principles and application of managing team. This will help
me in my future as I can effectively manage my team. This skill allows me in to share ideas in
my team along with understanding how team members work, think and operate. It will help in
building team spirit and everyone have a platform on which they can share their views and
thoughts. It is beneficial for both employees and organisation.
Time management skill
By reading this module, I have acquired time management skill as I was lacking in this.
But this module helps me in managing my time with my personal and professional life. I can
manage my personal and professional life by using this skill. I will use this kill in my academics
too as I can effectively use my time in doing personal work along with academics. This helps me
in understanding this module too as earlier I was not able to manage my time after taking
lectures but this skill helps me in making me a schedule and I have followed. I have observed
that my weakness is now my strength and this can be used in my professional career too in
creating balance between professional nd personal life. Many time I have face shortage of time
due to disturbed schedule but when after completion of this module, I can manage my time in
improving weaknesses and other skills which will help em in my future when I will be a manager
in company. It helps me in improving my productivity along with focus. It eliminates distractions
that one I have such as social media and over usage of mobile phone. It makes easier to do work
in a simpler and easier way. It have improved my efficiency as I become more productive and
efficient by learning this skill. I have used this skill in my academics and found that I can able to
do work before meeting of deadlines. It saves lot of time that I have used in learning new skills.
Dedication and Integrity
After completion of this module, I have come to know that being loyal towards work makes
people more valuable. This skill is needed in my career as it will inspire other employees to work
with their integrity. By this they become loyal towards company and it positively impacts on
company's performance (Hedin and DeSpain 2018). This skill I have used in this module and it
creates keen interest in learning this module. This skill I can use in when I will be a manager in
order to make other employees devoted towards their work.

SMART Goals
This model or framework will help me in developing my skills which I can use in my future. I
will identify my goals and based on that I will make a smart goals plan in order to improve
existing skill or promote self development. The models help in defining that goals must be
specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound. It helps in defining parameters which
meets with objectives and able to attain them within given time. It will help me in evaluating my
strengths and weaknesses along with provides a plan to overcome those weaknesses. It facilitates
in monitoring my progress and if progress is not up to mark, then what alteration is needed to
improve my performance. I will take responsibility of my performance and try to improve my
skills that will be used in my professional career. I will take opportunities that are available for
me and take every step to improve my performance.
Eisenhower matrix
This model will help me in self development as by this I can assess and prioritize my work based
on important, not important, urgent and non urgent. This will save my time and I can manage my
time with other activities. I will focus on most urgent task and put all efforts to complete that
work. After that I will put other work. This will help me in knowing which work is important and
which is not, so that I can focus on more important work. I will not face any emergency if I have
prioritise my work.
CONCLUSION
From the above project report, it was concluded that skills plays an important role in making an
individual more successful. By having relevant skill, individual can take advantage of it and
become more productive. By this module I have come to know that there are many skills that I
have acquired in order to pursue my aspiration. I can be more productive if I have these skills
and can use in my personal and professional career. SMART goals help me in setting up of goals
and action plan along with time so that I can effectively attain those goals in a given time. Time
management skill helps me in managing my time with professional career and academic career.
Critical thinking helps me in solving problem of both my academics and professional career. I
can analyse cause and find the best alternative to find solution to that issue.
