My Journey to Dentistry: Personal Statement for Dental School

Personal Statement 1
It is truly said that “smile is a universal welcome.” Dental health and hygiene affect
everything including other medical pathologies. I first became interested in dentistry when I
was in school. At that time one of the well-known dentists of my community organized a
dental checkup and awareness camp in my school for all the students. He explained to us the
importance of dental hygiene and how it affects our whole body. I was impressed by his
speech and knowledge. It made me curious about dentistry. I visited his dental clinic for 3-4
times with one of my relative who was undergoing dental treatment at that time. I was
surprised by knowing that dentistry is such a vast field and there are lots of opportunities. I
made up my mind to enter in the field of dentistry and decided to go to dental college after
completion of my high school study. I started preparing myself to qualify for dental college,
and in the year of 2006, I got the admission in Manubhai Patel Dental College and Hospital,
Vadodara (India) from where my journey of the dentistry began.
Ever since I entered in the field of dentistry, I have applied myself diligently to
acquire more experience in the dental field. I started to visit nearby dental clinics after my
college time for 1-2 hours daily when I was doing my internship. I have also begun to attend
dental camps and community work which was organized by my college and Indian Dental
Association. I have not restricted myself to the dental field only. Whenever I got a chance to
learn something new and improve my knowledge; I tried my best to do it. I also used to
participate in extracurricular activities like skit, volleyball, and cricket in the cultural program
of my college during the year 2009 to 2011. I always wanted to be a part of the dental school
of the United States of America, so I started to collect some information about dental schools
in the USA. When I was in my college, I have attended 3 Dental Outreach Program which
was conducted by Dr. Girish Shah of New York University College of dentistry in Kutch
region (India). I have joined this program as a volunteer, and this was an excellent
opportunity for me to work with international Dentist. I learned a lot of new things from him
which have added one more feather in my dental career. I have finished my one-year
compulsory rotating internship from 2010 to 2011.
After completing my B.D.S (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from the Manubhai Patel
Dental College, I started my practice at Chaitanya Dental Clinic and Implant Centre, Anand
(India) in July 2011 where I treated a lot of patients for about one and half year. In 2012, I
joined Shree Nilkanth dental Clinic and implant center, Anand (India) where I worked as a
senior dentist. While working as a senior dentist, I have started to organize dental camps and
awareness programs nearby my clinic region to educate the people and to make them more

aware about dental health and hygiene. Perhaps this was the way by which I was motivated to
enter into the world of dentistry. I also have started my preparation to get the admission in
dental School of the USA which is also my dream. For about 6 and a half year of serving
people with different types of Dental treatments, I came to the USA in March 2018 on
Immigration. Here in the USA, I started a job as a Dental Assistant at Finest Dental Clinic,
New York under the guidance of Dr. Izabella Belenkiy and Dr. Sergey Belenkiy to continue
gaining knowledge in the field of dentistry. On the other side, I kept myself busy with the
preparation of the dental examination and admission procedure for the dental school.
I am excited about the opportunity to participate in your program to continue my
journey of excellence in the profession of dentistry. In addition to gaining more knowledge
and understanding of Dental techniques, I am also looking forward to developing my manual
dexterity and to improve my understanding of Dental field. I believe that I have necessary
technical skills and hardworking ability to get successful in Dental School. I know that the
practice and guidance I will receive in dental school will be an invaluable part of my training
which will also help me to cope with future challenges.
