Creating a Comprehensive Personal Philosophy of Teaching

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

While being an expert on one’s content area is imperative, if one does not comprehend
how to best communicate knowledge to the students, then the expertise is useless. While
teaching the students, it is essential for the teachers to ensure that they are using proper
communication style so as to make things comprehensive (Kienstra, Imants and van der Heijden,
2015). Teaching is an art that requires several skills so that teachers can enhance the
knowledgeable aspects of students. At the same time, with the help of appropriate teaching, it is
essential for the teacher to remain confident because that will help them to showcase the right
sort of knowledge delivery. Under the philosophy of teaching, communication aspect plays
crucial role because through that only, things can be made easier and students can get better
information about their studies and course materials. Communication is an important dimension
which is not only related to use of language; but also it includes the way of making the things
comprehensive. With the help of proper use of communication, teachers can manage the ability
of guidance (Wiesenberg and Stacey, 2013). Further, teachers must also strive to create a
meaningful classroom environment for the students so that it can encourage pupil to learn more.
Hence, in order to manage the same, it is significant to develop appropriate communication with
the external entities.
In the teaching philosophy statement, chief role is played by conception of teaching and
learning which clearly states that teacher must create a learning environment at the initial stage
so that afterwards students can cope up in the same. This is also crucial for the purpose of
reflecting the intention of teaching and guiding. From reflection point of view, it is significant
for the teacher to decide the way of teaching and in that several options can be considered. This
is highly useful for enhancing the degree of effectiveness in teaching (Di and McEwan, 2016). If
I would get the opportunity to become a teacher, then I will ensure that I am considering all the
elements of teaching because that can assist me to make the things comprehensive. I will also
consider teaching as an art; hence to encourage my efficiency, I will add up more things while
teaching the students from diverse contexts. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to ensure that I
am teaching in the best possible manner because that lies under my prime responsibility
(Flowers, 2014).
It is an apparent fact that every teacher has unique style of teaching; therefore the teacher
must justify the style of teaching through his own effectiveness and capability. With the help of

this, proper knowledge can be delivered to the prospective students. From my personal
experience, I can say that for effective and long term learning, it is vital for teachers and students
to develop proper relationships with each other. Hence, it can be said that student- teacher
relationship is the major factor that enhances the value of teaching. Usually, while teaching
anything I prefer to use narrative words so that I can justify my own learning. Teacher must
always be educated and knowledgeable so that the best information can be delivered to the
students. I feel that teachers need to be more learners and they should learn more prior teaching
the students (Owens, Miller and Grise-Owens, 2014). At the same time, it is also essential for the
teachers to develop the ability of thinking so that new dimensions can be adopted to teach the
pupils. From my personal experience, I see that the practice of teaching can best be managed
through involving the students as well in teaching procedure. Before starting the process of
teaching, it is imperative for teachers to conduct a discussion with the students regarding the way
of teaching. Therefore, this can make the students more comfortable in teaching process.
While teaching the students, I engage the students as well so that I can encourage their
practical learning ability and this also assists me to get prominent feedback from the students
regarding my way of teaching. I always try to keep my learning ability on so that I can manage
doubts and issues of students. Nonetheless, it aids me to deliver proper knowledge to the students
as per the area of requirements (Knepp, 2015). For a teacher, it is essential to deliver only right
knowledge so that efficiency and capability level of students can be amended. Teachers must
ensure that inclusive language is being used so that things can be clearly communicated to the
students. Right content is essential because the overall studies and coursework is associated with
teacher’s way of teaching. Students can never ascertain what is right and what is wrong; hence it
is essential for the teachers to specify only on accurate and appropriate content. Moreover, this is
also crucial for the purpose of promoting the education level of students (Rogers, Lyon and
Tausch, 2013). Teaching philosophy says that there should be positive connection between
teachers and students.
Further, it is also essential for the teacher to become more interdependence on the ability
of the students so that openly all the issues can be discussed. This is also essential for the
purpose of removing all sorts of confusion in the teachings. In this respect, I can say that
collaborative and open ended enquiry should be promoted so that learners can positively get

encouraged to share things in the setting of class room rules and routines (Flowers, 2014). It is
also vital for the teachers to share proper knowledge with the students so that they can reflect
how much they have learned from the teachers. Providing guidance is an essential and positive
practice that needs to be undertaken amid students and teachers; therefore teachers must make
sure that properly all the aspects related to the course work are being taught to the students. The
philosophy of teaching states that teacher must ensure that all the values and beliefs of students
are being valued which is also important in learner- driven method. Teachers also emphasize on
joint activity in which along with students, other colleagues can also be involved to encourage
the practice of teaching (Chuang, 2015).
Role of teacher is not always defined; hence it is clear that teachers should always change
the way of teaching so that they can produce the best outcomes as a part of teaching (Rogers,
Lyon and Tausch, 2013). While guiding the students, it is essential for the teachers to make
frequent changes in the roles and responsibilities so that students can feel comfortable for the
same. Moreover, teacher should play the role of promoter and encourager in which consistently
he or she should promote the education. In other context, the aspect of teaching can be enhanced
when teacher himself emphasizes on own areas of improvements and development. I always
consider this practice into account; hence this aids me to analyze all the areas that requires
continuous and long term development. I have personally observed that focusing on own
development raises my potential and capability and it also changes the way of grabbing
information about numerous other topics (Wiesenberg and Stacey, 2013). Moreover, it can also
be said that with the help of continuous learning, I am able to identify all those dimensions that
are vital for my career and personal development.
I strongly suggest that in order to become a good teacher, role plays and case study
activities should be conducted so that formative aspects can be managed suitably. I need to
become an influencing personality so that all my students can follow my guidance. This is also
essential for the purpose of promoting self-development aspects (Kienstra, Imants and van der
Heijden, 2015). The philosophy of teaching says that there must be appropriate concern towards
the style of communication because communication is the sole source which underpins
efficiency of all the practices. It is a known fact that communication plays a key role in changing
the behavioural aspects; therefore it is crucial for teachers and students both to follow proper

procedure for the same. It is a common facet through which better relationship can be developed
among the associated parties. Teacher plays significant role in accumulating skills and
knowledge; hence they should be more expressive and extrovert. This is the way through which
they can guide others to get knowledge about all such aspects that enhances development facets
(Henke and Höttecke, 2015). From my personal experience, I can say that teacher should have
apprpripiatre knowledge regarding languages because through that only, they can manage two
way communication with the students and trainees.
At the same time, it is a general belief that teachers must ensure that students are giving
their appropriate views and opinions in the process of teaching because that can only encourage
the level of teaching. While teaching the students, it is crucial for them to prepare a list of
courses so that they can add more elements in the guidance procedure. Different ways of
teaching can be adopted such as audio, video classes, use of projector and other techniques to
make the seminar more efficient and appropriate (Nikolaros, 2015). This is essential to influence
the students as well towards the process of learning. Therefore, from the discussion it can be said
that teachers must have to consider various things which are essential in the philosophy of
teaching. From my experience, I can say that the ability of critical thinking is must so that
teachers can find out the loopholes which are not yet identified in any of the studies. This not
only challenges the critical ability of teachers; but also aids the students to learn more from the
course work. Critically, I can say that this helps me to discover new elements that are associated
with the course work and as a result, goal and purpose of education can be achieved
simultaneously (Gaut and Gaut, 2013). Moreover, I also prefer to go for self-directed learning in
which as per my preference, I select the best learning style.
The time when I was engaged in teaching, I realized that I need to develop prominent
communication with the students so that they can understand my philosophy of teaching. Most
important thing here is to have suitable command over right use of language and pitch because
that strengthens the level of interaction among associated people. However, in this respect,
disciplinary aspects are also required to be considered so that teaching process can be properly
managed in the class room and other activity (Gaut and Gaut, 2013). These are the basic
requisites of teaching. If I talk about my personal experience in teaching, then I can say that I

have adopted different methods of teaching which helped me to enhance my own competency
and calibre.
I believe in engaging people in the classroom activity because that not only enhances
interaction level; but also it changes the relationship between teachers and associated students.
Teachers should also encourage the students to speak in the process of teaching so that teachers
can comprehend how much students are getting and acquiring knowledge from the coursework.
Thus, in this respect I can say that there are various aspects that needs to be considered while
teaching the students (Chuang, 2015). Concluding, it can also be said that teachers are solely
responsible for the studies; hence they must ensure that higher amount of support is given to the
students. Teachers should make the students feel comfortable so that students can ask questions
without hesitation. This is also essential in terms of enhancing the efficiency of teaching process.
