Abstract
A person's personality and creativity are traits that have caused very deep conversations
and debates over the years. This is because the two traits affect how individuals interact in each
and every field of study, business, and social life. All that well said we can easily conclude that
personality and creativity traits of an individual are related in one way or the other. All the
relationships of the two traits and how they actually affect the daily activities of human lives plus
the actual definitions will be given in the introductory part.
Methods of data collection on the two traits will be given in the method sub-section. And
all the procedures of collecting data will be discussed and then followed by the analysis of the
results and interpretation of the analyzed results for the end reader who does not in any way
understand statistics and his analysis will be able to understand.
The discussion category will be able to point out the interaction of many of the theories
that will have been mentioned in the literature. This will lead to a better understanding of the
individual's differences in personality. We will tackle all these procedures categorically and
explain each steps clearly.
Introduction
The main topic for the discussion is on Personality, creativity, and self-control. These
three topics will be discussed in details. Several literature reviews will also be reviewed
intensively to meet the objective of the research. These articles will give some evidence to and
discussion of the main topics of study. This will help achieve our main objectives and finally, we
will be able to draw some useful insights. Personality is defined as a person's unequaled asterism

of never-ending behavioral identities or habits. Personality is how frequently an individual
behaves particularly in the varied number of occasions. For instance, we can say that an
individual is industrious because at all times they are always busy in a productive manner even if
the larger population around them seems to have taken a break. Another person can be termed as
polite; this would mean that in all the instances they will always stay calm.
But according to Karwowski and Lebuda (2016), personality is defined in terms of five-
factor traits or personality, these factor traits are conscientiousness, openness, extraversion,
neuroticism and agreeableness and specifically huge two meta-traits which are plasticity and
stability.
Common personality traits would be; honest, moody, impulsive and friendly.
Creativity on the other hand according to Karwowsski (2016) is illustrated on how an individual
thinks they are. “Creativity would also refer to the capabilities which are highly traits of
intelligent and creative individuals. Creative capabilities rule out if the individual poses the
abilities to showcase a creative trait to a noteworthy degree. Whether or not the individual having
requisite potentials will definitely give out outcomes of a relatively creative personality depends
upon the person's motivational and temperamental traits".(Runco and Jaeger 2012).
There is in all of this existence of a relationship between an individual's personality and
creativity. This relationship needs to be examined critically because it largely affects the
existence of the effects that accrue in different activities that go on in the lives of different
individuals in different disciplines. We extend this point of view in order to see creativity as an
element connected to mental health: Looking at its kenned connection to ductility, transparency,
confidence and the like, properties of personality that are seen as both prior knowledge for and

outcomes of a positive personality, creativity is perceived to cultivate certain adjustment to life,
while there exist facts that link both creativity and mental illness.
A good quantity of writers has stressed the significance of personality in creativity, some
tend to debate that creativity may have little to do with cognitive procedures in any way, and due
to this we end up with a result which is of a special personality asterism. Reassessments of the
applicable exploration commonly list idiosyncratic such as suppleness, sensitiveness and
sovereignty and ego fortitude. The recent examination of the earlier investigation, however,
implies that the connectivity between creativity and personality is not plain and easy to
understand. It is not possible to identify a certain kind of personality profile that is typical of the
creative, without considering their field, and also distinguishes the creative from the noncreative.
A recent study emphasized the importance of a "complex" personality that combines,
among others, the sensitivity with toughness or high intelligence with naiveté. Striking in the
discussion of this point is that the personality traits considered important for creativity may seem
to be objective and against the normal thoughts: take for example, the creative personality looks
more of a simultaneous stereotypical "masculine" (sovereignty, self-belief, resistance) and yet
stereotypically "feminine" (sensitive, intuitive, responsible). According to one study, creativity
requires retention of a "paradoxical" personality characterized by seven polarities: transparency
combined with drive to close incomplete forms; acceptance of fantasy together with maintenance
of a stable sense of reality; sensitive and destructive behavior together with beneficial problem
solving; cool neutrality combined with passionate engagement; self-centeredness coexisting with
altruism; self-criticism and self-doubt together with self-confidence; tension and concentration
side by side with relaxedness (Cropley 2006).

The huge-meta two traits that are considered under the personality trait are plasticity and
stability. These two traits affect how creative self-concept of an individual is. I will give an
illustration on how this comes about. Consider a person who has a flexible and ever-changing
personality, such a person will always try to change how they feel and according to the situation
at hand in order to please the relevant people present in that situation or in that condition. This is
very dangerous as in such a case one can never be able to express how strongly they feel about a
concept and an idea. They are therefore vulnerable and are likely to be told what to do or how to
apply a concept to suit the interest of the stakeholders involved. Independence is something that
is highly important. Take for instance the government bodies that defend different rights of the
citizens of a country. Such bodies are expected to stand firm and independent and this is the true
secret behind their relevance. Unlike the people who are easily manipulated, the people who are
usually standing firm and express their view and never change, have freedom and usually feel at
ease even in expressing their concepts and ideas. They usually have nothing to lose as they have
self-respect and high self-esteem.
Convergent thinking abilities are always used together with divergent thinking abilities.
Divergent thinking occurs instantly and continuous in that a lot of creative ideas are invented.
This is mainly observed in children while they are growing. In most cases it happens in learning
institution in classes or lecture halls. We can say it mainly comes during problem solving.
Studies have shown that depletion in self-control had appeared to affect the performance which
required convergent and creative thinking. This is so according to (Radel et al. 2015)

Individuals with stable personality in a way think through something when they have set
their mind on it and whether there is a challenge to the realization of the actual result, these
individuals will always come up with the actual solutions. This existence of stability is the major
reason as to why there exists performance on creative tasks. On the other hand, after seeing the
effect of plastic personality on a person's self-esteem, the ripple effect will be that there will be
little or nonperformance on creative tasks.
The existing relationship between stable personality and self-control is that the people
with stable personality have got poor self-control as opposed to those with plastic personality.
Even though this has no proper proof and explanation, it does not need rocket science for an
individual to see this. Look, an individual with a stable personality will always stand for what is
right without at times looking at the effect that they can cause to the human's population. Take
for instance an individual who is less rational, a leader, for instance, they tend to lose the best of
themselves and this eventually leads to having poor self-control (Baumeister 2007).
The above articles explain the depth relationship between the three main topics on
personality and self-control and creativity. The need to come up with a concrete hypothesis that
is relevant to the study is very crucial. The hypothesis needs to be formulated using the literature
review.
Formulation of hypotheses
The hypotheses formulated are:
i) There exist no significant connection between stable personality and self-control
ii) There exist no significant connection between stable personality and creativity.

iii) There exist no significant connection between stable personality and cognitive
abilities.
The following hypothesis will form our basis of research. Answers to the above hypothesis are
to be determined in order to achieve the objective of the research. Data is to be obtained with
regard to the above topic and the data will be analyzed. Different analysis techniques will be
applied to keeping the hypothesis in mind. After the analysis, the results are discussed in a
statistical manner.
Method
The research was to determine the connection between creativity and personality. In
order to achieve the goal of the research, data was collected in the following ways: the data was
collected during class time. The students were asked to volunteer and those who volunteered
were the participants. Those who accepted to participate were given Simon task which included
questions on creativity. This took approximately 45 minutes. Later, they were given a
questionnaire on self-report which took approximately 1 week. The scores of the two were linked
into one. In the questionnaire, the following variables acted as the independent variables i.e. sex,
age and the personality variables of Stability, Plasticity and self-control depletion. To access the
personality meta-trait of plasticity and stability, the IPIP-NEO was selected (Maples, Guan,
Carter, & Miller, 2014). It contained statements that were to be answered using a Likert scale of
1 to 5 where 1 was very inaccurately and 5 simplified very accurately. To obtain Plasticity score,
scores from openness and extraversion item were summed up. To obtain the scores of Stability,
the scores of Neuroticism, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness were summed up.
The convergent thinking task was carried out where the participants were asked to look
for the three words and to generate a fourth word is which is related to the 3 words (Mednick,

HEADER 9
1962). A divergent thinking task was also carried where the participants were required to come
up with the uses of different kinds of words (Guilford, 1967). The results for all these processes
were recorded.
On the concept of the Creative self-concept, a short containing it was used (Karwowski,
2012). Similarly, its statements contained Likert scale answers ranging from 1 to 5 where 1
simplified definitely not and 5 simplified definitely yes. Simon task can be used o achieve this by
depleting self-control experiment (Proctor, 2011). The red and blue color was observed on the
screen from either side of the screen. Those who participated were advanced to press on the left
whenever they noticed a blue color and similarly, on the right whenever they noticed red color.
The trails were categorized into congruent and non-congruent. Only one of the conditions was
allocated, participants. The convergent and divergent task was used to access creativity. Likert
scale data was formulated to be used (Silvia et al. (2008), scale 1 symbolized not at all creative
and scale number 5 symbolized highly creative. To obtain the creativity index, the score was
summed and later averaged.
Before the analysis, the hypotheses will be formulated to help link the literature reviews
and the data collected. The relationship between the two methods is to be determined and
insights obtained.
The data collected is analyzed. The analysis techniques will be applied to the data set.
The descriptive statistics will be applied to get the statistical summary of the data. The
correlation analysis is also conducted to determine the relationship of the given variables. This
will apply especially in determining the relationship between the predictor and dependent
variables in the data set.

Descriptive Analysis
The data collected contains 57 rows. The first statistical approach is descriptive analysis.
Under descriptive analysis, the measure of central tendency and dispersion is determined to give
a summary of the data set. The analyses obtained are constructed into tables and graphs. Below
are the results obtained from the analysis:
i) The Measure of Central Tendency
The mean, mode, and median of the variables were obtained as per the tables below.
The above shows the analysis of the central tendency and dispersion. It is observed that
mean of the group is 1.49, the mode is 1 (No self-control depletion), the median is also 1, the
deviation from the mean is 0.504, the variance is 2.54, Skewness is 0.36 meaning that the data
was normally distributed. It is also observed that the mean age of the participant is 24.35 years,
the median is 22 years, the mode is 20, the standard deviation is 6.749, the variance is 45.553,

the Skewness of the data is 2.043 which mean that the distribution of the data is wide. The
statistical summary of the sex shows that the mean gender is 1.19, the median is 1 (Female), the
mode is also 1, the standard deviation is 0.398, the variance id 0.159, the Skewness is 1.598
which mean that the data is normally distributed
Frequency distribution
In this section, the frequencies and the percentages of the participants' information are
discussed using graphs and tables.

i) Group
It can be observed that 28 (49.12) of the total participant were a no self-control depletion
group while 29 (50.88 %) of the total population were a self-control depletion group.
