2. P&G culture, policies, power and the impact on performance and behaviors
2.1 P&G culture
Organizational culture is an essential element for the development of any company in general
and P&G in particular. It refers to the personality of a company and determines the environment
in which employees work. Besides, organizational culture is all the cultural values created
throughout the life and development of the business, being the mission, vision, principles, values,
ethics, expectations and goals in that business. (Doyle, 2020)
For more than 180 years of operation, P&G has always been on Fortune magazine’s list of
“Best Place to Work”. The unique organizational culture not only helps employees stay in happy,
highly productive, but also gives P&G a distinct identity that is not to be confused with any other
company. P&G believes in people orientation, aggressiveness and outcome orientation,
innovativeness and risk-taking.
People orientation
When Alan G. Lafley, former chairman and CEO of P&G, explained the core value, he
pointed out, “The P&G people, leadership, the sense of ownership, honesty and integrity, trust
and the passion for winning are the core values of P&G”. The principle is to respect every
employee and the profit between the company and the individual is uniform. P&G takes the
development and changes from the external environment into account and appreciates the special
skill of each individual. It believes that employees are the most valuable asset of the company.
P&G people show their wisdom and intelligence, passion and innovation for work every day and
wherever they are. All of them are motivation to develop business. (Xiaobo and BingLin, 2011)
P&G always attaches importance to recruiting outstanding talented people. P&G recruits
talents from all sorts of excellent universities who have strong leadership, creativity, outstanding
analytical ability, excellent teamwork spirit and good language skill. After joining the company,
P&G will provide training program for employee development. With formal training provided by
P&G College and one-on-one instruction by Direct Manager throughout working, so the
employees will grow up quickly. (Xiaobo and BingLin, 2011)

in 1918, P&G implemented a plan of the worker parliament, which offered a quota of labor
representative in the board of directors for each factory, and made workers directly participated
in decision-making management. (benefitsPRO, 2017)
