The study explores the effect of market and macro factors affecting supply
chain in fast moving consumer goods a case study of Procter and Gamble Company.
Fast Moving Consumer Goods are those products whose costs are low and they have a
quick turnover. These goods are usually replaced within the year. Examples of these
products include durable products like soap, cosmetics, toothpaste, detergents,
shaving products and non-durable products such as bulbs, glassware, paper products,
plastic goods, batteries, electric appliances and many more. The study also assessed
three specific objectives. These included the following;to review the effects of various
market and macro factors on supply chain at Procter and Gamble (P & G), to
investigate the level of the supply chain in fast moving consumer goods at Procter and
Gamble and to compare the relationship between market and macro factors and
supply chain in fast-moving consumer goods companies. The study was built on two
theories that is Network theory and Agency theory to relate the variables in the study.
Since the research is positivism, it requires the conceptual framework which involves
the depiction of relationship between dependent variable and independent variables.
The market factors indicators (the behavior of purchasing power by consumers,
competition and cheaper substitutes available) were considered as the dependent
variables. Also, macro-factors indicators (political influences, purchasing power,
promotions, seasons and holidays and economic factors – inflation were considered as
the moderating variable in this study whereas supply chain in FMCGs acts as the
dependent variable. The Agency theory originated from the analysis of economic
risks where it was applied in solving the problem faced by organizations,
organizational supply chain management and other agents included in the
organization.
A case study design was employed in order to study the macro factors
affecting supply chain at Procter and Gamble Company to enable it increase and gain
prosperity in the industry of competition. The study obtained data from both secondary
and primary sources. Secondary data in this case was used to show the trend of supply

chain in fast moving consumer goods at Procter and Gamble company. Primary data

was obtained by using questionnaires during the session of the study. The target
population of the study was 60 and the sampled respondents in the study were 52
using Krejcie and Morgan formula of determination. The population involved staff
from procurement team, planning team, marketing team, sales team and distribution
team of Procter and Gamble Company. The data was analysed using SPSS where
descriptive and inferential statistics were obtained. The study found out that currently
the company of Procter and Gamble operates efficiently and yield above US $ 67.7
dollars. This showed a recovery for P & G Company since in 2017 it was working in
losses. The study concluded that there were significant relationships between the
variables in the study. The results showed that there has been a steady increase in the
net sales and distribution of proctor and Gamble products. The study provided
conclusions and recommendations together with the limitations of the study.

To compare the relationship between market and macro factors and supply

Project Outcomes:

Provide a list of key outcomes of the conducted project (can be deliverables/outputs
for each of the above objectives/ stages and these can be studies, reports,
requirements, plans, recommendations etc )
For the case of the first objective; most of the respondents agreed that while
entering new markets, it is alwaysvital to put into consideration that the purchasing
power of consumers affect supply chain in fast moving consumer goods. Also, most
of the respondents agreed that the company should put into consideration about the
varying demographics say change in the number of consumers and their disposable
income affect supply chain in fast moving consumer goods. Most significant is that,
most of the respondents agreed that it is essential to consider promotions, seasons and
holidays that may turn out to be dangerous in buying patterns. Furthermore, the
political, economic factors (inflation, wealth status and other macro indicators)
determine the level of supply chain among companies in fast moving consumer goods
a per the literature provided in this study. This implied that market factors and macro
factors affect supply chain in fast moving consumer goods among companies Procter
and Gamble company inclusive.
For the case of Objective two; The accuracy of supply chain can be formulated
under three main levels of supply chain management. These levels include the
planning, analysing the customer and supplier threats, and lastly assessing the supply
chain capabilities. In this case, the supply chain in fast moving consumer goods for
Procter and Gamble using the net sales showed the recovery performance. This is
because the company’s supply chain dropped in 2016 and 2017 due to some internal
and externa factors (Micro, market and macro factors). The study showed the positive
trend from 2018 to current since results indicated net sales of FMCGs to have gained
market all-over the world.
For the case of Objective three; the study found out that there was the
significant relationship between macro factors, market factors and supply chain in fast
moving consumer goods a case of Procter and Gamble. This means that it should be
put into consideration that the companies dealing in delivery of fast moving consumer
goods, must consider such factors (Market and Macro factors) in order to achieve
for each of the above objectives/ stages and these can be studies, reports,
requirements, plans, recommendations etc )

Why are you interested in the project ?
Provide a reason for your interest, what greater general interest it serves (In
Industry or as part of Research) and who it could benefit (the target audience(s)
that this project would be beneficial to)
The study is hoped to benefit the following groups of people. The
beneficiaries of the study are; the company of P&G itself and other companies that are
involved in FMCGs. This is done by providing the trend and relationship between
supply chain and market factors together with macro factors. Such findings in
accordance to the overall objectives are hoped to provide literature and
recommendations, government officials are hoped to benefit in this study about
calming down the economic and macro factor such as inflation. This is because when
all these are put into consideration, companies in fast moving consumer goods are
entitled to yield results in relation to their objectives. Furthermore, the study is hoped
to benefit the companies dealing in the supply chain of Fast moving consumer goods
to produce products in productive seasons. This is because the seasons to which
products re delivered determine the consumption and utility of the product in
question. This because the study provided the summary statistics about the market
factors which indicated the close relationship between the supply chain in FMCGS
among companies.

What research methods do you intend to use?
(Discuss the nature of investigation considering the multitude of academic and
Industry methods, with thoughts on qualitative and quantitative methods, and
primary and secondary methods)
The research study used a case study research design whereby quantitative or
numerical findings were obtained. This is because the study aimed at achieving the
positivism research findings. Positivism study helps to draw conclusion about the
existing literature or data of a given organization. In this study both primary and
secondary data were used. Secondary data aimed at examining the status of supply
chain in fast moving consumer goods about Procter and Gamble Company. On the
other hand, primary data was used to develop other reliable information in relation to
the variables in the study. Primary data was adopted since it provides clear and on-
going situation of the determinants of the specified dependent variable (supply chain
in fast moving consumer goods) in the study.

(for each of the above identified methods discuss the pool of sources of authentic
and credible information giving examples, e.g. consider target audiences such as
profiles of general public, company representatives, people with specialist
knowledge and in specific positions, type and title of books, journals etc)
Data collection method is regarded as the best tool used in finding answers for
the research questions and thus it is very important in research methodology. In this
study, the collection of data was done using a structured questionnaire to gather
information from employees on supply chain management at Procter and Gamble.
Primary data was obtained from the five departments of Procter and Gamble
company. The target population of the study was 60 and the sampled respondents in
the study were 52 using Krejcie and Morgan formula of determination. The
population involved staff from procurement team, planning team, marketing team,
sales team and distribution team of Procter and Gamble Company. The selected
departments have got direct and indirect hand towards the supply chain in fast moving
consumer goods for the company. Besides, secondary data was obtained from the
company’s website where the data about the status or trend of supply chain as far as
fast moving consumer goods is concerned. Secondary data gives the clear image
about the historical data which helps in forecasting or drawing conclusions
(hypothesis) about the variables in the study.
