INTRODUCTION
Tourism is the most happening & vibrant sector in the present scenario. The tourism
plays the important role in the growth of the economy of a country. Besides this, it also gives
employment to the local people & a global exposure to the country. In this report, we will
discuss the condition of tourism in Philippines. Philippines, being an island country, has high
potential to be developed as a tourist place (Blanke and Chiesa, 2013). Although it has not
developed as per its potential & now require some suggestions & recommendations to improve
the condition of tourism in the country. In this report, we will discuss the tourism planning at
Philippines. Along with it, we will discuss advantages of interactive planning & STEAM model
to analyse possibility of the growth of tourism at Philippines. Also, we will discuss, PPP (Pro
Poor Projects) & PPT (Pro Poor tourism) approach in context of Philippines.
TASK 2
2.1: Tourism planning at Philippines
Philippines being a coastal country has a high potential to get developed as a tourist place
which will not only help in increasing the economy of the country but will also provide a better
employment opportunity to its local citizens. Also, it will give a better global exposure which
will improve the country's total GDP & FDI growth factors. Some better tourism planning
opportunities at Philippines are:
To provide the country with the detailed & precise plan to meet the tourism requirements
which will help in growth of regional economy.
Deciding future plans to attract mare & more tourists & provide them with the best
services. Focus on their better stay, travelling & other facilities can be done.
Assess & identify the area with chances of greater success of tourism development &
directing the efforts towards it (Blanke and Chiesa, 2013).
Organise & develop various programs to develop better global relationships with other
countries to aid into the growth of tourism in the country.
This can be done by taking various major steps by government as well as the local
authorities to develop the travel & tourism in the Philippines. Some services that can be provided
by the government or the local authority which can help in growth of tourism in Philippine are:
1
Document Page
Travel agency: Many tourists seek that their tour or travelling to a country remains
hassle free. As being unknown to the new location, the tourists look after for someone
who manages their accommodation, travelling & other requirements. In such case, a
travel agent will provide them with all the services & help on an affordable cost. Also,
many times, the travel agents provides certain offers, discounts & packages to attract the
customers on wide scale. They will provide the tourist or customer with the tour packages
as per their affordability & convenience. Many times, this packages include the rent of
taxi, hotels & other facilities.
Tour Guide: As the tourist will be unaware about the new location & unable to
communicate in the native language, he will look after a tour guide to interact & know
about the tourist place in Philippines. A tour guide has to be well versed in various
languages to meet the demands of different customers arriving to the Philippines from
various countries around the globe. But before this, the government has to conduct an
extensive research & provide them with vocational training (Blanke and Chiesa, 2013).
2.2 Importance of interactive planning
Many times the tourism evolution may cause some problems in the country on
community & social level such as overcrowding, traffic jams, pollution & socio-economic or
socio-cultural differences. But majority of these problems are caused by the unrestricted policies
& mishandled planning measures which increases the disturbance. Some destinations have been
benefited from tourism without any plans, majority of the countries follow a tourism
management plans & strategy to gain success in the tourism sector. The implementation of the
interactive planning measures suggest that cooperative, collaborative & influential planning
measures can be taken on the initial stage with the involvement of the local communities &
authorities to develop an extensive tourism plan (Horner and Swarbrooke, 2016).
This process will help the local authorities to develop by participating in the decision-making
process even though on such grand level it is quite difficult & requires more time, money &
effort of local investors. The involvement of the public allows top class work in the interactive
planning as the local people & authority will be directly linked with the tourism & better
implementation of the policies & plans. But it doesn't have any major impact on the market plans
& their growths with the rise in the tourism with the passage of the time. But it will ensure a
better budget planning, lesser negative impact on local communities & increase in the destination

potentiality. But the lack of instructiveness & better communication will affect them as this will
create a communication gap between tourist or tourism authority & the local public of the
destination. Also, improper implementation of interactive planning may cause environmental
degradation & loss of local culture.
But the tourism plan will help the country to focus more on the providing of quality
services of customer satisfaction on an affordable cost & betterment of the tour & travels
management at Philippines. Also, some extension or expanding policies can be implemented to
increase the tourism hub or area & cover various closely situated destinations on a common
level. Also, it will clear out the decision making process & make it more customer centric & fast
to implement (Mowforth and Munt, 2015.). Besides this various programs or events can be
organised to attract tourists from all over the world. This will not only give the Philippines a
global exposure but also help in increase in the rise of the economy of the country. The
employment scope will be increased & will be beneficial to the local people. Likewise it will
also help in the preservation of old monuments & national heritages & will make people aware to
take care of it to develop a better tourism destination point. It will also increase the revenue
count for the government.
2.3 various methods to measure tourist impact on the Philippines
A tourist will have a deep impact on the working of the local authority of the Philippines.
There will be various measures that will be taken by the local authority to gain the idea about the
rise or fall in tourism & its effect on the revenue generation for the government. They may give
rise to new employment opportunities & also improve the local economy. There are various
measures as per STEAM model that can be taken into the consideration to measure the impact of
tourism on the Philippines. These measures will give the local authority an idea to work in a
better way & adopt the necessary changes or measure required to meet the tourist's demand.
Some of these measures are:
Rise in economy: the tourism will have a direct impact on the local as well as the
national economy of the country. In a country like Philippines, the rise in the tourism is
an indication that the tourists are getting attracted towards the country from all over the
world & this will give rise to the foreign currency reserve as well as local businesses. The
tourist will give the foreign currency in exchange of the local (Mowforth and Munt,
2015). Besides this the rent of hotels, travelling costs & other expenses will improve the
3

business of the destination in Philippines which in whole will improve country's
economy. Also, it will help the Philippines government to develop PPT (pro poor
tourism) & PPP (pro poor projects) for betterment of the local, underprivileged people.
The PPP & PPT approach many times allow the government as well as the tourist to
perform the philanthropic activities in which the international tourists may donate or give
monetary help to a local organisation working for the betterment of the people & society
& make them the part of this process too (Stylidis and et.al., 2014). This will not only
improve conditions of the poor, needy & people seeking help but also give customers or
tourists a better satisfaction level.
Rise in Globalisation: The rise in global tourism has given Philippines a global exposure
which in return will give the country a better recognition on the global level & will
improve the condition of the global tourism ranking. Besides this the people will learn
about new culture & will express their on a global level due to rise in tourism.
Reservation of National heritage: the rise in the tourism will give a great awareness
about the conservation of the places & things of national & cultural heritages which will
also increase the customers or tourists interest in the country. Besides this, it will also
give the company a cultural recognition on a global level. The people get to know about
the culture of the Philippines & will get attracted toward it (Blanke and Chiesa, 2013).
Better employment opportunities: The rise in the tourism will give the national as well
as the local rise in the employment opportunities. The tourism will not only give a hike to
economy but also improve the job opportunities. On a tourist hotspot, there will be
immense requirement of tour guides, travel agents & tour providers to manage the tourist
efficiently & effectively.
Improvement in infrastructure: the rise in the tourism facility will also give a
distinguished rise to the overall infrastructural conditions in Philippines. The tourism
boom will give the government to build better roads, better guest houses, hotels &
restaurants to attract more & more customers on a tourism destination. Besides this, it
will also improve tourist's tour experience & satisfaction level.

TASK 4:
LO4
4.1 methods to resolve cultural conflicts in Philippines
The cultural conflicts can have a negative impact on the tourism of the country. Any
cultural difference or issue can cause Philippines to take measure to control the conflicts.
Various measures to control the conflicts are:
Keeping an open mind to people of various cultural background & nations.
Trying to understand other cultures of the world.
Train people to work with tourists & people of different cultural backgrounds.
Expressing local culture to the people & tell them Do's & Don'ts of a native place.
4.2 balance of supply & demand
The balance of the supply as well as the demand will play a crucial role in the tourism of
the Philippines. The measures or the steps taken by the government to promote the tourism in
Philippines may be inadequate if the demands of the customers or the tourist will be high. In
such case, it will have a negative impact on the tourism of the Philippines. Likewise, if the
supply is more i.e. the measures or expenses made by the government for the tourism are more
than the number of tourists coming than the company will be in immediate loss due to reduce
demand.
4.3 Enclave tourism
An Enclave tourism is a practice or a process to plan & develop all sort of tourist specific
activities in a particular, geographical area. It will improve the tourist experience & satisfaction
level without making them to travel to distant places of their host country. This type of tourism
will be wide, cheaper & more beneficial to other countries than the host countries. It includes an
all-inclusive tourist plan which will improve the economy & will make the tourist stay hassle
free. Also, it will improve the local business & will make the government to develop a better
infrastructural services. This approach will help the Philippines to develop better tourism policies
& will help in bringing the foreign investments (Holden, 2016.). In this approach, the tourist is
self-contained & is made to spend time & money on a particular geographical location. But,
many times it doesn't include the local authorities. Thus, people hardly have any chance to
communicate with local people. Also, it doesn't give any chance of true local exposure. Also,
sometimes enclave tourism is different from the local environment in context of culture &

5.1 Comparison between Nepal & Philippines
Philippines & Nepal both are a better tourism places with lots of tourist places to name
around. But there have been certain differences which make them different & also place them
separately on a tourist’s priority (Stylidis and et.al., 2014). Some of the basic social, economic
& environmental differences between Nepal & Philippines are:
Nepal Philippines
Social The social conditions
of Nepal are different
from that of
Philippines. Nepal is
conservative nation
prone to the Maoist
attacks & social
disturbances.
Nepal doesn’t bear any
sort of interference in
its society. The social
backgrounds hinder
people to mingle with
tourists.
Philippines are a nation
with quite openness &
liberty to its citizens as
well as to its tourists.
The citizen, too are
quite friendly with the
tourists.
Philippines are a
tourist friendly nation
where people &
government readily try
communicate with
tourists.
Economical The economic
conditions in Nepal are
not so viable. It is a
developing country
with a majority of
population under the
poverty lines.
People are not aware
The Philippines is too
a developing country
but it has more
exposure to the global
trends & benefits of
tourism.

up due to the better
economic policies like
PPP & PPT of
government in
Philippines.
Better economic
factors of Philippines
ensure the tourists
about better
infrastructural
facilities.
Environmental Nepal lies in the foot
hills of Himalayas.
Hence, the climate is
cold. It is quite prone
to avalanche, heavy
snowfall, hailstorms &
rains. Such conditions
can make tourist drop
down their plans in
amidst the tour.
The weather in Nepal
is very fluctuating & it
makes tourist uncertain
about the climatic
conditions.

which can affect the
tourism deeply in the
Philippines have a
continental climate
which is pleasant all
over the year making it
ideal to visit all over
the year.
The sea shore,

prone to high tides,
tsunami’s, cyclones
which may have a
major impact on safety
of tourists.
Preventive measures
can be taken to tackle
such conditions in an
efficient & effective
manner to manage the
security of the tourists.

country.
Thus, from the above we can conclude that Philippines has a better tourist advantages over Nepal
as it is more exposed & lenient towards the tourist policies. Bedsides this, the social &
environmental factors of Nepal plays odd against it. Philippines have a high potential to emerge
as a tourist hotspot & work for the better tourist policies, which on the contradiction is absent in
case of Nepal (Naidoo, Pearce and Sharpley, 2017). Also, economic & climatic conditions of
Philippines are more favourable than that in Nepal. Apart from this, the socio-cultural conditions
are more rigid in Nepal than that of Philippines, making it difficult for the tourists to travel hassle
free & easily.
5.2 Recommendations:
Both, Nepal & Philippines can adopt certain policies & can take measures to improve the
tourism conditions better & specific. Some of the recommendations are:
Recommendations for Nepal:
As the economic conditions are low, government can work on betterment of the
economic conditions & to build the better infrastructural facilities (Monterrubio, Osorio,
and Benítez, 2017). This will not only help the Nepal to attract more tourists & travellers
but also give a rise in countries economy & satisfaction level of the tourists.
Besides this, government can also involve the social groups in tourism development &
interaction processes to provide them with the necessary exposure to the global tourism
trends & work on the building of better conditions & relations with the tourists.
Apart from this, the government of Nepal can take preventive measures to develop better
disaster management (Saarinen, 2017). They can adopt various technical & other
facilities to meet the condition like flood or Earthquake.
Recommendations for Philippines:
Philippines, though have a better tourism supporting conditions, has to look after few
factors to improve its quality of services. They can incorporate certain policies to better
the international relations.
Besides this, they also take the local communities & provide them with vocational
trainings to interact & work with tourists from around the globe. This will not only help
them to build a better bond with tourists but also help in growth of local businesses which
in return, will lead to growth in countries economy (Woo, Kim and Uysal, 2015).
9
Document Page
Alike Nepal, Philippines can also adopt the disaster management policies to meet &
tackle any sort of environmental or natural calamity like tsunami, cyclone etc. This will
improve the tourist safety & security & will also improve the image of Philippines on a
global scale. Likewise, it will also make the tourists more care free to plan their trips &
tours in Philippines (Saarinen, 2017).
Conclusion:
Thus from the above research, we can conclude that Philippines has a very high potential
to get evolve as a tourism hotspot. There are various factors which can affect the tourism in
Philippines & if managed efficiently, Philippines can be a major tourist destination. In this
report, we discussed about the tourism planning on a national, regional as well as local level &
the significance of PPP & PPT approaches for betterment of local people. Besides this, we have
discussed the importance & effect of interactive tourism planning in Philippines. We also
discussed the STEAM model & its significance in context of Philippines. Apart from this, we
have discussed the benefits of better enclave tourism in Philippines & its advantage &
disadvantages. Also, we compared the tourism conditions of Nepal & Philippines &
recommended them the necessary measures to improve their respective tourism.
