Exploration of Philosophical and Sociological Foundations
Reading books and visiting the internet has helped me gather answers to the many questions I
have been asking myself.
The significance of philosophy in our daily life has been a question that has led me into
reading the “Lovely professional University” publication on the significance of philosophical
and sociological foundations in education (Lovely Professional University, 2013).
Additionally, bringing change to the society has been my dream. As a philosophy and
sociology student, I have been seeking to achieve this goal which made me read the book
“Introduction: A Sociological and Philosophical Approach to Education” (Lam & Park,2015).
Through a critical examination of the causes of these challenges in the society, philosophy and
sociology has led me into deep research.
As a way of developing mastery in the course, I participated in group discussion with my
colleagues. I even took part in research, report writing and projects that were based on
philosophical and sociological foundation. Some of the works that we did as a group was in form
of pictures that help us achieve the learning objectives and outcomes.
One way of evaluating our understanding of philosophical and sociological foundations in
education was through sitting for examinations and doing assignments. We developed learning
activities that helped us achieve the learning outcomes.

Reflections
This is an outline of how I used to take professionalism to be before taking this course as well
the impacts that the course has installed in my professionalism.
Through the study of philosophical ideas as a sub-unit, the course has lifted my
professionalism in that I could barely understand why a student could go through a class and still
fail. However, the study of professionalism has helped me understand the different types of
students and how to professionally put across the knowledge to each one of them (Oni & Soji-
Oni, 2015).
Philosophical and sociological professionalism has also enabled me think logically when
providing solutions to students’ misunderstandings and conflict.
Sociological and philosophical foundations in education has enabled me appreciate the
importance of fairness in judgment since a teacher is not only meant to be teaching but also
provide solutions to disputes that arise amongst students. Social justice has enabled me be a
better judge in life.
One thing I cannot underestimate are the skills on methodological dissemination of
knowledge. The course has enabled me appreciate procedural and systematical dissemination of
knowledge to my student since learning is a process (Ravi, 2015).
Conclusion
Philosophical and Sociological Foundation as a field prepares a teacher to be of great
importance to his students. The educational success of the society depends on the quality of
teachers the educational institutions nurture and train to be (Cheube, 2009). Therefore, as a
