INTRODUCTION
Plagiarism can be defined as a procedure of using someone else's ideas, words and
thoughts. This study is going to show about plagiarism in the context of academic. There are
several types of plagiarism which this study will discuss such as direct, self, accidental, mash up
and all these types (Hussein, Rusdi and Mohamad, 2016). The main source by which students
commit this type of crime and plagiarism is internet and roles of internet in this context will be
discussed in this report. Further it will also discuss importance of academic integrity and ethics
that makes people able to being professional. Due to lack of integrity, colleges and students has
to face several problems. Different ways of removing plagiarism and improving academic
writing will be discussed as well.
MAIN BODY
Meaning of plagiarism and their relevance in academic writing along with types of plagiarism
Plagiarism is all about copying someone's idea, writing and words and pretending that it
is being done by themselves and own self. It is not a legal and college students sometimes
expelled from their colleges and schools if they are being caught plagiarizing. It can also be
considered as academic dishonesty. There are several sentences and penalties have to pay if
someone does and being caught plagiarizing such as : firing students and person who do
plagiarism, stripped of their grades etc.
Types of plagiarism: There are several types of plagiarism which are discussed as below:
Direct: It is a type in which, individuals transcript word for word of a section of someone
else's work, without quotation mark. It is called academically dishonest unethical work.
Self: It is a type in which, student submit a new project on teg same topic which has been
done by his/her and when he/she mixes some parts of his/her previous work in a new project
(Bouarara, Hamou and Rahmani, 2017). It is also unacceptable in high school and in a college
course.
Mosaic: This type of plagiarism occur when students borrows some phrases from a
source without using quotation mark. Students also uses synonyms of words from the author's
languages.

Accidental: It occurs due to carelessness of students when they neglect or forgets to cite
their sources. It can also be occurred when students unintentionally paraphrase a paragraph by
using almost same words.
Role of internet in plagiarism:
Internet has made this academic plagiarism easier as by putting the word's information at
everyone’s fingertips, the internet made it easier to plagiarize that information and students have
all felt the repercussions of that.
Plagiarism checker: With the help of internet, students can check if they do plagiarism
or not. Sometimes accident and unknowingly they perform plagiarism and with plagiarism
checker they can see the similarity.
Importance of academic integrity relevant to professionalism in business environment
Academic integrity and honesty plays an important role in university community and
becoming more professional. It refers a moral code and ethics as well as honesty. Being
consistent in all behaviours and act is the best definition of integrity.
Important for academics or university:
The way students work and behave it directly affects academy, businesses and university.
For improving brand image, academics, university and organizations needs to be more
trustworthy in its standards of courses. It can only be possible when all students show integrity
and do not behave unethical.
Important for new ideas:
Increasing learning skills and new ideas plays an important role so it is important to be
honest and behave ethically. It allows students to analyse their own skills and see that where
from the ideas came and how they can improve more. It also makes feel proud to others
(McHaney, Cronan and Douglas, 2016).
Consequences of lack of integrity
There are several problems may occur if students do not behave ethically and show integrity
such as:
Lack of discipline: Maintaining self discipline is quite difficult and it become impossible
when personal integrity is out of whack. Due to lack of self-discipline, people and students can
not complete any work on the time and efficiently.

Health issues: Due to lack of integrity, people and students sometimes suffer from the
problem of family stress and work stress.
Reputation suffers: It is one of the main problem and consequence that occur due to
poor integrity. Due to dishonesty and lack of integrity, students try to make fool to other but soon
it comes to them and their reputation suffers.
Ways for avoiding plagiarism and improving academic writing
There are some ways that can help students in avoiding plagiarism and improving their
academic writing.
Paraphrasing: The best way of avoiding plagiarism is to read the content and mould it in
own words. Students need to make sure that they do not have copied content from sources and
have write in their own words.
Cite: Citing is also an effective way to improve academic writing. By following
formatting guidelines that are being given by educational institutions, student can remove
plagiarism. It entails the addition of authors, publication date and all informations. It is important
for students to have proper knowledge of citing otherwise it may constitute plagiarism.
Quoting: In this type, students need to use quote exactly in the way it appears. Scholar
should be able to effectively paraphrase most material. It is time-consuming process (Chowdhry,
2016).
Referencing: Referencing pages and pages of work have some citation in the end of the
research paper. By following all formatting guidelines, they can avoid plagiarism.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been summarized that academic integrity played a vital role
as it helped students to make their assignment and project in an effective manner and become a
professional. It has also shown some types of plagiarism like accidental, self, direct that created
several problems for students and have to pay some penalties as well. It has also discussed some
roles and importance of internet in plagiarism as it somehow become the reason of plagiarism
and also prevent students to reduce plagiarism. Further, some strategies and ways of preventing
students from plagiarizing has also shown. Some ways by which they avoided plagiarism and
improved their academic writing.
